Accounting Technician, South Africa AT(SA) is a leading, trusted professional body dedicated to the education,
development, regulation and support of accounting technicians in South Africa. AT(SA) offers a diverse range of
practical, accounting and finance qualifications as well as professional memberships aimed at finance and accounting
staff from entry level to senior executive level. The qualification is designed to take you on a progressive pathway,
from a foundational level through to an advanced level of accounting knowledge, skills and competencies. AT(SA) is

QUALIFICATION: AT(SA) students working
towards an AT(SA) Certificate in Accounting or a Local Government Accounting Certificate (LGAC) and
Public Sector Accounting Qualification (PSAQ).
AT(SA) students are tested not just on the theory and principles of accountancy but also by demonstrating practical workplace skills – guaranteeing employability.
QUALIFICATION: completion of Certificate
level of the AT(SA) NQF Level 3 / LGAC. Similar
qualification at minimum NQF Level 3*.
WORK EXPERIENCE: one year of work
experience in an accounting environment at entry level.
SKILLS: double entry bookkeeping.
Understanding of management processes.
Use of manual and computerised accounting
systems. Work with ledgers.
QUALIFICATION: completion of Advanced
Certificate level of the AT(SA) NQF Level 4.
Similar qualification at minimum NQF Level 4*.
WORK EXPERIENCE: one year of work
experience in an accounting environment that
includes exposure to cash management and credit
control.
SKILLS: preparation of final
accounts for sole traders and partnerships. Cost accounting records and
preparation of reports and returns.
QUALIFICATION: completion of the AT(SA)
NQF Level 5. Similar qualification
at minimum NQF Level 5*.
WORK EXPERIENCE: one year of relevant work
experience in an accounting environment at a supervisory
level.
SKILLS: full range of accountancy
skills as well as an understanding of personal taxation. Understanding of
business taxation tailored to South African tax legislation.
QUALIFICATION: completion of the AT(SA)
NQF Level 5.Similar qualification
at minimum NQF Level 5*.
WORK EXPERIENCE: at least five years’
Platinum membership with a minimum of five years’ senior level work
experience.
SKILLS: recognition as a senior
professional within finance and accountancy.
