President’s Message
Bill Fry/Severn Trent Services
Thanks to everyone that attended our May meeting at
Galileo’s in Pattison on May 14th. It was good turn out and as
usual it was great to see everyone. The program was very
informative about the 4-H Program in Waller County. Miranda
Jones, 4-H member, did a great job presenting the program. It is
wonderful to see that we have youth in our community who are
looking to making a difference. We as a community of
businesses need to support this program.
Thank you to everyone attending our 2nd
Annual Ice Cream Social on May 7th
that
raised money for the betterment of our community. We appreciate all of you that
sponsored this event or helped with coordination and planning. The event raised close
to $12,000 and the Chamber Board approved increasing the four scholarships to be
awarded the Royal ISD deserving seniors from $500 each to $1000 each.
Our next meeting will be June 11th at Galileo’s when we will be recognizing our
Education Committee and its partnership with the Royal school district.
I look forward to seeing all of you there. Until then, be safe and enjoy.

Daystar Publishing’s Lillie Ruby and the Times Tribune Newspaper have received
statewide recognition and awarded and named to the 2013 Media Honor Roll. The
Media Honor Roll recognizes media representatives statewide for fair and balanced
reporting of news. This award is sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards
(TASB). Viola Garcia, TASB president said “Districts across Texas appreciate these
reporters for their balanced and accurate approach to sharing both the challenges facing
our schools and the successes achieved by local teachers, students and school boards.
Their work aids local communities in focusing on the goal of providing the best public
schools we can for every child.” A nomination for the award was submitted by the
Royal School District. The TASB reviewed the information submitted for this award
and subsequently selected Lillie and the Times Tribune as recipients. The Royal I.S.D
offers its congratulations to Lillie and our community’s Times Tribune newspaper. The
superintendent and school trustees respect the accuracy and the integrity with which the
news is reported. WTG Lillie!

Dear Editor:
The West I-10 Chamber has historically held election public forum events for county and state
level races to educate its service area voters about candidates. In an effort to continue and
enhance that service, the West I-10 Chamber offered the City of Brookshire May 11, 2013
election candidates the opportunity to reach constituents and communicate their platform at its
2013 Election Forum held on Tuesday, April 23rd
in Brookshire. Included on the program was
an informational and question and answer session regarding the Waller-Harris Emergency
Service District 200. The Chamber wishes to thank mayor candidates, Eric Green, Albert
Wilkins, Kurt Glover, and council candidates Dianne Peterek and Suzanne Garrett for their
participation in the Forum. – as well as, PAVFD Fire Chief Hollis Ulbricht, PAVFD Director
Hollis Ulbricht, Sr., and Waller Fire Chief Gene Schmidt who took time out of their busy
schedules be on hand to explain the ESD and answer questions from the citizens as to the
benefits of the City of Brookshire joining the ESD. Special thanks to John Boaz for providing
the venue and grilled hamburgers!
In addition to the May 11th election for mayor and city council positions 1 & 2, Brookshire
citizens will have the opportunity to vote on joining Waller-Harris County ESD. Concurrently,
there is a special county-wide election to vote on accepting the City of Brookshire into the
Waller-Harris County ESD 200. All county residents should consider this an important issue
regarding the emergency service for all county residents and businesses and VOTE on May 11th.

Waller County 4-H Council Chairman for 2012-2013. Miranda is
