This map illustrates satellite-detected surfacewaters over Da Nang City, Quang Nam, QuangNgai, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue Provinces ofViet Nam as observed from Sentinel-1 imageacquired on 13 Oct 2020. Within the analyzedarea of about 10,000 km2, a total of about 740km2 of lands appear to be flooded. Based onWorldpop population data and the detectedsurface waters, about 171,000 people arepotentially exposed or living close to floodedareas. This is a preliminary analysis and has notyet been validated in the field. Please send groundfeedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.Important Note: Flood analysis from radar imagesmay underestimate the presence of standingwaters in built-up areas and densely vegetatedareas due to backscattering properties of the radarsignal.
