Happy Thanksgiving - Merry Christmas
& Happy New Year!!
To all STIMSON ASSOCIATION MEMBERS
A Submarine Christmas Poem
T'was the night before Christmas, he lived in a crowd,
In a 40 man berthing, with shipmates so loud.
I had come down the Sail with presents to give,
And to see just who in this rack did live.
I looked all about, a strange sight did I see,
No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stockings were hung, just poopy-suit close at hand,
On the bulkhead hung pictures of far distant land.
He had medals and badges and awards of all kinds,
But one in particular seem to catch my eye.
Why they were Dolphins, with a tiny submarine ... pinned
on with pride,
A sobering thought came into my mind.
For this place was different, it was so dark and dreary,
I had found the house of a Submarine Sailor once I could
see clearly.
The Sailor lay sleeping, silent and alone,
Curled up in his rack, dreaming of home.
The face was so gentle, the berthing in such good order,
Not how I pictured a United States Submarine Sailor.
Was this the hero whom I saw on TV?
Defending his country so we all could be free.
I realized the families that I've seen this night,
Owed their lives to these Submarine Sailors who were
willing to fight.
Soon 'round the world, the children would play,
And grownups would celebrate a new Christmas Day.
They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year,
Because of the Sailor, like the one lying here.
I couldn't help but wonder how many lay alone,
On a cold Christmas Eve on a sea, far from home.
The very thought brought a tear to my eye,
I dropped to my knees and started to cry.
The Sailor awakened and I heard a rough voice,
"Santa, don't cry, for this life is my choice."
Defend the seas this day,
So others may rejoice.
The Sailor rolled over and drifted to sleep,
I couldn't control it, I continued to weep.
I kept watch for hours so silent, so still,
And we both shivered from the night's cold chill.
I didn't want to leave on that cold, dark night,
This Guardian of Honor, so willing to fight.
Then the Sailor rolled over and with a voice soft and
pure,
Whispered, "Carry on Santa, it's Christmas Day,
All is Secure!!"

serious heart attack August 2016):
UPDATE: 10.27.16 Alan is doing very well. Still has
cardiac rehab 3 times a week and our family physician
said “with the severity of your heart attack and your
improvement after 2 months could only be because of
God”. Most of his restrictions have been lifted, now just
common sense things---no shoveling snow (hope we
3
don‟t have any), not being outside in very cold (hope
we don‟t have any) or hot weather, etc. We look
forward to the next reunion. Thanks again, Linda Reed

Carolyn Linhart, wife of Chuck, QM1(SS) G 68-74
UPDATE: 11.26.16: Carolyn did manage to enjoy her
Thanksgiving and ate a small amount of turkey,
potatoes, and noodles even with her tube
feeding. She has stabilized around 100 lbs. and
getting better.
10.29.16 I wish to thank everyone for their prayers and
donations to the gofundme account
(gofundme.com/5wb3wtpuw). My wife is finally up to
100 lbs. but still on tube feeding. This is quite an
expense, but we will continue as long as we need
to. Medicare refuses to pay for the tube feeding
because she can eat food by mouth. Now she can‟t
eat enough to keep her alive, but that doesn‟t count
with Medicare. The rule is if she can eat by mouth,
they won‟t pay for the tube feeding or the supplies. I‟ve
bought my own pump to try to cut down on the long-
term cost. She is progressing, but it seems every time
we see the light at the end of the tunnel someone
turns it off. She is having a lot of hospital stays just to
try to fix things they did wrong the first few times. Our
spirits are high and we are looking forward to traveling
(maybe in the spring). Hope to make the next reunion,
so please send us the info. Keep praying for us, I‟m
convinced that is the sole reason we have made it this
far.
8.2.15 Since 2010 Carolyn‟s health has been steadily
deteriorating. This has caused them severe financial
difficulties. Chuck has started a GoFundMe page in
hopes to pay for the required medical procedures
Carolyn has had to have.
**********
Larry Hall, STS3(SS) B 65-69:
6.10.15 Still awaiting a kidney and can‟t travel to the
reunions. They say that my kidney failure was caused
by high blood pressure and diabetes though I'm not
sure about that. In 2009 I had prostate cancer and had
48 radiation treatments. In 2010 my kidneys failed.
Since my diabetes is well under control and my blood
pressure hasn't been high for 20 years, it seems a bit
coincidental.

Fictional Story written by Jim Kinney, LCDR G 67-69
Nov. 14, 2016
Deterrent Patrol Part 1
The tension was visible; nervous glances, shrill
voices, deliberate speech. It was like a gray cloud that
hung over the Control Room. Commander Earle
Forbes knew it was crucial that he remained calm and
in control. He could feel the questioning attitude of his
battle station crew. And no wonder. They had never
encountered a situation like this.
The USS Henry L. Stimson (SSBN 655) was on
patrol in the Mediterranean, one of the most difficult
and treacherous bodies of water in the world. Ship
traffic was intense, water conditions were
unpredictable, but the mission remained clear; stay on
station, ready to launch. It was the same for all missile
submarines. Their ability to launch missiles on
command was principal in the national security
strategy, and being detected by opposing warships
made the mission impossible.
The doctrine of Mutual Armed Destruction (MAD)
had been central to the use of nuclear weapons since
onset of the Cold War. It was based on the theory of
deterrence, in which the full-scale use of nuclear
weapons by two or more opposing sides would cause
the complete annihilation of both sides.
The United States had created the nuclear triad,
consisting of the long range bomber aircraft, able to
reach targets from bases in the U.S. and the Pacific,
the missile silos buried in America‟s heartland, and the
ballistic missile submarine. Of the three components of
the triad, the submarine was thought to be the most
reliable, because its precise location could not be
determined by the enemy and destroyed by a pre-
emptive strike. Its effectiveness depended on two
criteria: the ability to be able to launch missiles on
command, and the ability to remain undetected so that
6
it could retaliate without fail.
Earle glanced around the Control Room, settling his
gaze on Ray Kreul, his Executive Officer, his second in
command. Earle couldn‟t help but think back to a
month ago. His then XO, Loree Riggs, had been
unexpectedly detached, ordered to take command of
another submarine. Earle had been flabbergasted.
Riggs was someone he had grown to trust, and the
thought of someone new, even if a top performer, this
close to deployment, was tough to swallow.
“How could you do this, just four weeks before
deployment” he had screamed at headquarters. “We
have 22 new crew just reporting aboard, including 4
green officers, and we have training in the new launch
system that must be done. Riggs and I had planned an
intense training schedule, and now you‟re putting our
mission in jeopardy.”
The Commodore replied, “We wouldn‟t normally do
this, but we have a superb replacement. Ray Kreul is a
hot runner, a rising star, and with your tutelage, he has
will catch up in a hurry.”
His first meeting with Kreul had not gone well. Kreul
seemed sincere enough, committed to the success of
his new skipper, but Forbes seemed to detect an
attitude, one suggesting confidence and self-
assurance that had not yet been earned. There was a
bit of swagger in Kreul, and Forbes didn‟t like it.
Forbes had earned his reputation by solid
performance, and he believed if you did your job,
through mastering the complexity of each assignment,
your superiors would recognize your potential. He
expected his subordinates to have the same approach.
“XO,” he said to Kreul. “We‟ve got a green crew
that has not yet proven themselves. Too many of our
sailors are uncertain of their jobs, and others think that
as experienced submariners, they‟ve got it all figured
out. I‟m expecting you to get this crew shipshape, as
quickly as possible. Our lives may depend on it.”
“Aye, aye skipper,” said Kreul. “I‟m going to give it
my all.”
Over the next few weeks, Kreul reflected on his
initial introduction to Forbes. He knew from the
grapevine before reporting aboard that Forbes was
intelligent, a superb engineer, demanding and a true
disciplinarian. Others that had served under his
command called him a fuss-budget, a worry-wort that
trusted no one, including his XO. He reluctantly
delegated authority, but demanded perfection in his
crew without the special human touches that made a
crew revere their Commanding Officer.
Kreul had worked extremely hard in the few weeks
prior to deployment. He had met with each of the
department heads and their chief petty officers and
enlisted their help in getting the maximum out of their
training time. Ruefully, he thought that he had
neglected his own family, still back at their previous
home in San Diego. They had decided to postpone
their relocation to Groton until he returned from patrol.
But the up tempo training had gone well.
Forbes had been merciless, checking on the tiniest
details, never giving Kreul and the crew any
acknowledgement of their progress. The routine
continued once they had reached Rota, relieved the
BLUE crew, and begun their refit. But Kreul had heard
from the Squadron staff that Forbes had grudgingly
reported that his crew had been whipped into shape
and were ready to deploy.
To be continued….

Navy veteran, who was supposed to be on USS
Thresher, to be buried where submarine sank
Julia Bergman, New London Day, November 27
Groton - A Navy veteran will soon be laid to rest at
the bottom of the ocean, more than 200 miles off the
New England coast.
A submarine from the Naval Submarine Base will
fulfill the wish of deceased Navy Capt. Paul "Bud"
Rogers to be buried at sea. During routine operations,
the submarine will transport Rogers' cremated remains
to where the USS Thresher (SSN-593) sank.
7
The Navy is not releasing the name of the
submarine or the date the burial will take place, since it
does not discuss submarine operations.
Rogers, who spent much of his 41-year
career serving on submarines, was supposed to be an
observer on the Thresher during the boat's sea trials,
but his supervisor, at the last minute, decided that he
didn't have enough experience and replaced him with
someone else.
It was just a day or two later, according to Rogers'
wife, that on April 10, 1963, the Thresher sank - killing
all 129 men aboard.
Rogers was devastated, and felt survivor's remorse for
much of his life.
"Bud felt that he should've been the one to go down
with the Thresher, not this other man," his wife,
Barbara "Bobbye" Rogers, 86, said from her home in
Wernersville, Penn. "All those years, it bothered him."
He served as an usher at the men's memorial
service, which was attended by their families, including
the wife of the man who replaced Rogers. She
wouldn't speak to him, Rogers' wife said.
"Oh, that just really did it. He felt terrible ... He
always felt he should've been the one to go down on
the Thresher," Barbara Rogers said.
The Navy has said the disaster likely was caused
by a leak in the boat's engine room, which led to
seawater flooding an electric panel that triggered the
nuclear reactor to shut down. With no propulsion, and
with the added weight of the water, the ship sank
below its crush depth and imploded.
The Thresher was the first nuclear submarine to be
lost at sea, and shortly afterward the Navy created a
program that developed new submarine safety
standards.
Rogers died on Oct. 28, 2015, at the age of 86, and
requested in his will to be buried at sea. Though he did
not specify where, his family thought it would be fitting
to bury him with the 129 men who went down with the
Thresher, said his son-in-law Fred Henney, who has
worked with the Navy to coordinate the burial.
An ancient maritime tradition, burials at sea have
taken place for as long as people have gone to sea.
Lt. Cmdr. Paul Rumery, who will carry out Rogers'
burial, has performed more than a couple dozen of
these ceremonies, which usually last 15 minutes, since
becoming a Navy chaplain in December 2000.
While the ashes are often left on a submarine's sail
as it submerges, given the family's request to bury
Rogers at a specific location, the submarine carrying
his remains will transit on the surface to a point where
Rumery, who will be topside, will be able to lower
the cremation urn into the ocean, he said. Rogers'
family will be provided with the date and coordinates of
his burial.
Rogers, who was born in Robesonia, a borough in
western Pennsylvania with a population of about
2,000, joined the Navy right after World War II.
He served as a fire controlman, operating the
weapons systems aboard diesel and ballistic missile
submarines, and was stationed at the sub base
several times throughout his career. He was
commissioned as an officer in 1963, and was one of
the first limited duty officers to be promoted to the rank
of captain.
Rogers was the program manager for the Trident
Missile Program, and commanded the Nuclear
Weapons Evaluation Facility at Kirkland Air Force
Base in Albuquerque, N.M., before retiring from the
Navy in 1990.
"It was just the love of his life. That was his first
love, the submarines and the Navy. Somewhere in
there, I came in," his wife joked.

Navy Releases Official Logo for 75th Anniversary
of WWII
Story Number: NNS161129-10Release Date:
11/29/2016 11:29:00 AM
From Naval History and Heritage Command,
Communication and Outreach Division
WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The Naval History and
Heritage Command (NHHC) released a logo to kick off
its commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the U.S.
8
Navy's experiences in World War II, officials
announced Nov. 29.
Starting with the anniversary of the attack on Pearl
Harbor on December 7, 2016, through the anniversary
of the Japanese surrender onboard USS Missouri on
September 2, 2020, the Navy will commemorate the
pivotal role Sailors played in America's World War II
victory. For the U.S. Navy, it will begin four years of
commemorative events and close review of the history
of what was a transformative event for the Navy, the
nation and the world.
The use of blue and gold represents the Navy's
traditional colors - blue representing the ocean and
seas and gold for integrity and valor. The anchor
stands as a symbol of the seagoing service's
steadfastness and toughness in times of challenge.
The golden rope which encircles the 75 years since
the initial attack and ensuing war represents our
shared history, and that through our bonds of
partnership, stability and prosperity we remain bound
together.
NHHC also launched an online collection page
specifically geared towards commemorating the
Navy's involvement in World War II. Featuring
photographs, art, artifacts, archival material and
publications covering all aspects of the Navy's
experiences during the war, new material will be
added as the commemoration continues to highlight
the important events associated with operations in the
Atlantic Theater, the Pacific Theater and on the home
front.
"World War II history has always been of intense
interest to both our service and the country at large --
and for very good reason," said Naval History and
Heritage Command Director Sam Cox. "It was a
worldwide conflict with existential consequences that
continue to unfold, and it affected every American.
While the broad strokes of the war are familiar from
cinema, books, video games, and popular culture, this
anniversary is a unique opportunity to delve deeper
into the events in real time."
As U.S. Navy ships and units around the globe hold
commemorative World War II events, the Naval
History and Heritage Command will provide historical
and commemorative support enabling the fleet to
remember the past and inspire the future. This will
include:
* highlighting the toughness, initiative, accountability
and integrity of American Sailors and Navy civilians
throughout the war and how their actions inspire the
same attributes in Navy people today.
* showcasing the innovative spirit of World War II
Sailors and the American industrial base which lives
on today in the strong connection between the Navy
and its partners in industry.
* illustrating the United States' commitment to regional
security and maintaining strong alliances, and how,
since the end of WWII, regional powers including
Japan and Germany, have evolved and are major
contributors to peace and prosperity worldwide.
* emphasizing that with partnerships spanning the vast
Pacific and Atlantic oceans, America is a maritime
nation whose security is tied to the sea and depends
on a capable and credible U.S. Navy.
Cox believes studying the events in the order and
pace at which they actually happened will allow
Americans to get away from a rote "date and event"
view of history. He says the intent is to dig deeper, re-
discovering past lessons and shaping new ones.
Equally important are the amazing stories of
dedication and sacrifice during the war that will inspire
Sailors and the rest of America today.
"Events like the Battle of the Atlantic and the
defense of Wake Island provide us hard-won lessons
on intelligence, command and control, strategy,
decision making, operations security, logistics, and
more. Every day that the Navy gets underway on the
same seas and straits where these battles unfolded,
we must 'use history to understand not only what we
did right, but what we did wrong, to not forget the hard
lessons we learned in the past and to think more
critically, with fresh insights, about the future .'"
NHHC has also made available a number of high-
definition video clips featuring one of their historians
answering questions about the raid on Pearl Harbor.
Find out more here.
NHHC is responsible for the preservation, analysis,
and dissemination of U.S. naval history and heritage. It
provides the knowledge foundation for the Navy by
maintaining historically relevant resources and
products that reflect the Navy's unique and enduring
contributions through our nation's history, and supports
the fleet by assisting with and delivering professional
research, analysis, and interpretive services. NHHC is
composed of many activities including the Navy
Department Library, the Navy Operational Archives,
9
the Navy art and artifact collections, underwater
archeology, Navy histories, nine museums, USS
Constitution repair facility and the historic ship
Nautilus.

USEFUL VETERAN AFFAIRS INFO
Vet Burial Plans
► Pre-Planning Is A Must
No one likes to think about death, but if a veteran
wants to be buried with military rights, or in a national
cemetery, pre-planning is a must. The United States
Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has a website
which includes information about national cemeteries,
preparing in advance, donating burial flags and burial
benefits for veterans buried in a private cemetery. To
insure eligibility of burial in a VA cemetery, discharge
papers are required. Family members should be made
of aware of where these papers are kept. The
discharge papers are also required for burial benefits
in a private cemetery.
The VA has 131 national cemeteries and those
eligible for the benefits are entitled to a gravesite at
one of the national cemeteries, providing space is
available. Opening and closing of the grave, perpetual
care, a government headstone or marker, a burial flag
and a Presidential Memorial Certificate are provided at
no cost to the family. Burial benefits are also available
for spouses and dependents of the veteran in a
national cemetery even if they predecease the
veteran, acceding to the website http://
www.cem.va.gov (click on Veteran Services, then on
burial 40 benefits in the drop-down menu).
Family members need to contact a funeral home to
assist with making burial arrangements at a national
cemetery.
To schedule a burial, fax documentation to the
National Cemetery Scheduling Office at 1-866-900-
6417 and follow up with a phone call to 1-800-535-
1117. Veterans are entitled to burial benefits when
buried in a private cemetery including a government
headstone or marker, a burial flag and a Presidential
Memorial Certificate at no cost to the family. Some
veterans may also be eligible for burial allowances.
For more information on eligibility call 1-800-827-
1000. Arrangements for military burials in private
cemeteries can also be arranged by calling the local
VFW or American Legion Post. For the VFW go to
http://www.vfw.org/find-a-post . For the American
Legion go to http://www.members.legion.org/CGIBIN/

USS San Francisco Holds Change of Command,
Farewell Ceremony
By Petty Officer 1st Class Derek Stroop,
Submarine Squadron 11 Public Affairs
SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Los Angeles-class fast attack
submarine USS San Francisco (SSN 711) marked the
end of 35 years of active service with a change of
command and farewell ceremony at Naval Base Point
Loma, Nov. 4.
Capt. Daniel Caldwell relieved Cmdr. Jeff Juergens
as commanding officer of San Francisco in the
ceremony.
"By any measure, the San Francisco has had a
stellar career as an operational submarine," said
Juergens. "I've been extremely fortunate to be one of
the few to command this fine submarine, and
especially lucky to get to command San Francisco for
the last three years, which have been so successful."
Also as part of the ceremony, previous crew
members, plankowners, commanding officers, friends
and family bid farewell to the vessel.
"The USS San Francisco is a can-do, workhorse
ship and there's no doubt that started with her original
crew 35 years ago," said Capt. Brian Davies,
commanding officer of Submarine Squadron 11. "She
still has a lot of work to do and a new purpose to fulfill.
Today will close that chapter of active-duty service,
and bid her fair winds and following seas as she starts
the new chapter of her conversion into a moored
training ship."
Later this month, San Francisco will shift homeport
to Norfolk to begin a two-year conversion process to
become a moored training ship. Following the
conversion, she will be moved to Nuclear Power
Training Unit in Charleston, South Carolina. She will
help challenge and train a new generation of
submariners through 2040.
San Francisco completed her final Western Pacific
deployment in October steaming over 50,000 nautical
miles and conducting port visits in Japan, Singapore,
and Guam. Prior to arriving back in San Diego, she
made a last visit to her namesake city and her Sailors
participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the USS
San Francisco Memorial Park.
San Francisco was commissioned April 24, 1981.
Measuring more than 360 feet long and displacing
more than 6,300 tons, San Francisco has a crew of
approximately 150 Sailors and is capable of supporting
various missions, including anti-submarine warfare,
anti-surface ship warfare, strike warfare, and
intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

Honor Our Heritage
(NAVY LIVE BLOG 09 NOV 16) ... Adm. Bill Moran,
Vice Chief of Naval Operations
This past weekend aboard Kings Bay Submarine
Base in Georgia, there was a small but powerful
reminder of what it means to honor and remember our
veterans. This remembrance event honored WWII
submarine veterans. For years now, the numbers of
vets attending this special event have been sadly
decreasing, and this year 15 Sailors from as far away
as California and Rhode Island made the pilgrimage.
When these veterans - most in their 90‟s - entered
the ceremony, the packed crowd instantly rose to meet
them with affirmation. Standing there, I was struck by a
great sense of pride, honor and duty. Not only are their
stories filled with unbounded courage, they are some
of the most humble people you‟ll ever meet.
Tony Faella was at home with his cousin, listening
to the radio when his show was interrupted with news
of the attack on Pearl Harbor. They both decided right
then and there that they were going to join the Navy
and went the next morning to a recruiting station to
enlist.
Fred Richards, who already had two brothers in the
Navy, joined when he was only 15 years old. He said
he was called to submarines after watching the movie
Destination Tokyo. After enlisting, he learned about
submarines on a school boat, S-28. But, while he was
on a training break away from the sub, S-28 went
down with his best buddy, Petty Officer First Class
Anderson, on board.
These incredible Sailors, and many more like them,
joined the Navy submarine force during a period of
great danger and great complexity. Like the young
men and women joining today, they raised their right
hands, and were scattered all over the world, to the
cold waters of the North Atlantic, and throughout the
Pacific from Australia to the coast of Japan.
Collectively, these 15 Sailors represented 59 war
patrols and 190 years in the Navy. Patrick Zilliacus
11
made four successful war patrols with the USS Spot,
sinking 17 enemy ships in the Pacific and surviving a
harrowing surface gun fight with an armed minelayer.
Paul Casavant was an 18-year-old shipbuilder in
Groton, Connecticut, when Pearl Harbor was attacked.
Not long after, he went from building submarines to
patrolling the Pacific aboard USS Narwhal. He
completed nine war patrols and retired from the Navy
with 30 years of service. When asked how he made it
through nine dangerous patrols, he said he was “very
lucky.” Keep in mind that serving on submarines
during World War II was the most dangerous duty a
Sailor could be assigned - 52 submarines were lost
during the war. One in five submariners never made it
home.
In both November 1943 and November 1944, we
lost three submarines each month. Imagine that - for
all today‟s Sailors, three submarines on patrol that
would never come back. 500 Sailors on eternal patrol -
It‟s unthinkable.
Legacy is an important word in our English language -
to some iit refers to age, to others more importantly it
refers to the enduring and meaningful lessons of
example. Some of the men honored in Kings Bay paid
the ultimate sacrifice for generations to come. They
never gave in, even when the prospect for success or
survival seemed dim. That toughness, that
determination to serve the guy next to them became
part of their legacy and part of our DNA. Their
sacrifices helped build the greatest maritime power in
the world.
As we get ready to enjoy a day of liberty and
remember our veterans, let us reflect on the sacrifices
of those who have gone before us, and strive to live up
to their example. The DNA of this greatest generation
is built into our character as a Navy - every Sailor,
every oath. So as we look to future challenges, let us
again rise to meet these amazing men and honor their
past by our actions and deeds in service to our
country.

Store Owner Cancels NFL Star's Event Over
National Anthem Protest. His Back-Up Plan Is WAY
Better.
Colin Kaepernick may have started the kneeling in
protest of America's national anthem, but Stephen
Martin, owner of Prime Time Sports in Colorado
Springs, Colorado, has started a patriotic rising unlike
anything that's ever been done before.
Martin first took a stand when NFL player Brandon
Marshall refused to stand for the anthem. Immediately,
Martin cancelled Marshall's scheduled autograph
signing event in his store. But he wasn't done. He
replaced the star's event with something entirely
different in his store, and in one week, it has grown to
epic proportions that he can hardly even keep up with
now.
He put out a post on Facebook, respectfully
disagreeing with the disrespect of the nation's flag and
anthem, then proceeded to explain just what the flag
means to him, and the sacrifice of all the men and
women who have fought for it. Martin invited people to
send photos of their loved ones who are veterans, in
active service, or who have been injured or given their
lives in the line of duty.
The photos started pouring in from all across the
country, and as fast as they were emailed, Martin
printed them off and taped them to his store front
window. Americans are sharing their photos and
stories on his Facebook page, as well as sending to
him through email, and each day he has posted
photos of the progress.
"Day #3 "Honor The Flag". 77 photos went up
12
today. Our flag has been soaked in blood and sweat
represented by these pictures, but it is the "words with
tears" that come with them, that keep it wet.
"Day #4 "Honor The Flag". 128 photos went up
today and I am still moved by the stories with each
photo."
"Day 7 "Honor The Flag" memorial wall. 190 photos
just went up. It has been difficult keeping up with
personal responses to each photo. At 62 I still need
my afternoon naps. Please do not see my lack of
correspondence to each photo as anything
disrespectful."
Thursday morning, he said, "Woke up to 190 emails
this morning. They are coming in faster than I can
read, get downloaded and over to Walgreens to get
printed."
America has truly answered Martin's call to "hear
the voice of the American flag."

Changes to Tricare Pharmacy Network
Reprinted from FRA Today Magazine
The TRICARE pharmacy network contractor
Express Scripts, Inc. (ESI) announced that effective
December 1, 2106, Walgreens Drug stores will be
added to the pharmacy network and the CVS drug
store chain will be dropped from the network. This
change is intended to provide better value and
maintain convenient access for beneficiaries. The
addition of Walgreens into the network means that 98
percent of TRICARE beneficiaries will still have a
network pharmacy within 5 miles of their home. This
new network will have more than 57,000 locations
nationwide, and ensures TRICARE beneficiaries have
timely access to retail pharmacies in their community.

DONALD TRUMP: Some of you might wonder why
this next article is included in the newsletter. It is
not meant to be an endorsement of Trump. This is
not a political newsletter. However, someone took
the time to research this information on the person
who will be our next President and I felt it was
good information to pass on. I have not vetted all
of these statements due to the time it will take,
however, many of them I have heard on various
news shows before, during and after the election.
You can elect to read through this or not.
Please...I‟m not looking for comments. Again...this
is for information only.
Thumbnail Sketch of Donald
* Donald John Trump, was born June 14, 1946.

publisher. The Kushner family is very successful in
New York City area real estate.
* Donald's grandmother, mother, first wife, and third
wife are all immigrants.
* Donald Trump was born and raised in Queens NY
* Though his family was very wealthy, Trump's
boyhood home in the Jamaica Estates section of
Queens was
not a grand mansion. The Trump home was a larger
version of the homes Fred Trump built for his tenants.
* There are no indications that the Trump family lived
among the wealthy elites on vacations or country
clubs.
* Queens is the largest of New York's five boroughs
and the most ethnically diverse.
* Trump attended a local private day school, the Kew
Forrest School, in Queens until about 8th grade.
* His secondary schooling was at New York Military
Academy which is about 60 miles north of NYC in
Cornwall On the Hudson. He was in class of 1964.
* Trump was never a “Preppie."

* He attended Fordham University in NYC for two
years and transferred to the University of
Pennsylvania‟s Wharton School of Business. At that
time, the Wharton School offered a rare program for
Real Estate Business.
* Though he was of age, Donald Trump did not serve
in Vietnam. He was not drafted due to bone spurs in
his heels (4F) and also student deferments. Ultimately,
in the draft lottery, he drew a high number.
* By all we know, Donald Trump does not smoke,
drink or use recreational drugs. He'll be the first
President in more than 25 years who hasn't smoked

* Trump makes it well known that he enjoys sexual
interaction with women.
* There is no indication that Donald Trump is a
recreational gambler.
* His doctor publicly announced Donald to be in
excellent health.
To really know Donald Trump, you must know his
family background. The Trump family story is a
very American story. Trump family history -
concise version.
* Donald Trump's grandparents immigrated to the
U.S. From Alsace (Kallstadt, Germany) which
throughout history has been alternately French and
German. The Trumps are German, originally speaking
the same German dialect as the Amish of Lancaster
County, PA.
* His maternal grandparents lived in Scotland.
* Freiderich (Drumph) Trump made a small but
respectable fortune in the late 19th Century in the
mining boom towns of the American Northwest.

* The newly married Trumps resettled in the Borough
of Queens NY.
* Freidrich was establishing a Real Estate business in
Queens when he died suddenly at age 49 (1918).
* In 1920, at the age of 15, Fred Trump (Freiderich's

partnership with his widowed mother called Elizabeth
Trump & Son.

Organization.
* Elizabeth & Fred remained close business partners
14
her entire life (she died in 1966).
* In 1936 Fred Trump (age 31) married Mary Ann

successfully operated a supermarket (a new concept
at the time) which was sold to King Kullen Co. which
operates to this day.
* Fred Trump made a lot of money building housing
for the military during WWII.
* Fred Trump was investigated by the Justice
Department for making "excessive profits" from
government contracts.
* All (or nearly all) of the building of Elizabeth Trump &
Son's non-government building was residential
property in Queens.
* Fred Trump died in 1999 (age 94) - beloved and

6 TV shows such as Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Days of
Our Lives, Sex and the City, and others.
* Trump has been the Executive Producer of 7 TV
shows.
* Trump has been the guest host of 5 TV shows such
as Extra, Larry King Live, and Saturday Night Live and
more.
* Donald Trump has been co-producer of the longest
running reality TV show.
* Donald Trump performed in several WWE wrestling
shows.
* Donald performed in Wrestlemania 23 which set
attendance records and revenue records up til that
time.
* In his first candidacy for public office, Donald Trump
received the most popular votes for the President of
the United States out of a field of experienced and
successful politicians. And in most cases, he achieved
this with less money than any of his opponents.
Keeping in mind that 90% of start-up businesses
fail, Trump's record of enterprise is nothing short
of amazing. Donald Trump has enjoyed success in
at least 11 very different enterprises: Professional
football, Ice Skating rinks, Fragrance, Ice, Steaks,
Wines, Model management, Airline, blenders,
Men's wear, Bicycle races, world class beauty
contests, and many others. In some of these, such
as model management, his firm has risen to the

Wharton, Harvard, and other business schools. His
performance there was phenomenal.
* Donald Trump's privately held businesses have
employed more than 200,000 people.
* In the casino business in Atlantic City, Trump had to
do business with known mobsters - and he stayed
"clean" and alive.
* Aside from his personal investments, Donald Trump
has never been a Wall Street "player”.
15
The Political Trump:
* About 1967 - 1987 - Democrat (he was a supporter
of Ronald Reagan)
* 1987 - 1999 - Republican
* 1999 - 2001 - Reform Party (he supported Ross
Perot)
* 2001 - 2009 - Democrat
* 2009 - 2011 - Republican
* 2011 - 2012 - Independent
* 2012 - Present - Republican
* Donald Trump was openly supportive of Mitt
Romney's candidacy.
* Donald Trump does not seem to hold political party
organizations in high regard. For the most part, his
political involvement has been for practical
reasons. Donald Trump does not appear to be held to
political ideology.
Some of the take aways (from those who know
him):
* Trump has an extraordinarily energetic central
nervous system much like Teddy Roosevelt, but more
targeted to industry and enterprise.
* Trump's presidency will be very energetic,
transparent, and communicative.
* Trump will be a very hard working President.
* His interaction with his older brother (who everybody
loved) tells me that he thinks that everybody is like him
- or wants to be - or should be.
* His relationship with his older brother was a hard
lesson in tolerance for him.
* Trump is the Babe Ruth of career achievements.
* He is dumb like a fox. When you think he just said
something stupid - he didn't. It's just that you were not
his target audience.
* Trump knows the people - the folk.
* His son, Donald Jr. is right. Trump is a "Blue Collar
Billionaire".
* More than anything, his TV show, The Apprentice,
was his passion. He wants all Americans to have
confidence (like he does) to venture.
* Donald Trump is attracted to and marries smart,
high achieving women.
* The highest levels of a Trump Administration is
certain to have many women - and they will be bright
and assertive.
