All the News that’s fit to print!
Another great couple of months for the NCWFA crew! First up, the ring!
Super puppy Boss (Charlotte & Martha Fielder) completed his super-quick march to champion by winning back-to-back majors at the SCWA Specialty shows in April, to complete his title at 12 months! Way to go Boss! Boss was also Best in Sweeps at the Western Hound Association the next day!
Tempestuous Tempe (Andrea Meyer) picked up that last point to complete her show championship in April. Good going Tempe, who we all know would have rather been anywhere than in the ring and congrats to Andrea!
Thomas (Marrianne Lu) picked up his last major in Utah in May, completing a well-deserved championship for another whippet who much prefers running to showing! Rover wonders what Marrianne will do with her spare time on the weekends now? ;-)
At the huge National Specialty in WI, Caroline (Kellee Livingston) won third in a huge 12-15 month bitch class. Caroline’s housemate Sage (Kellee Livingston) made the cut in the specials class of 141! The rest of the NCWFA gang who attended had lots of fun, with Mary Jean Odron judging the Veteran Sweeps and Guin Borstel judging the Futurity event. Lots of nice whippets, both young and old, on display in Oconomowoc!
Andrea Meyer is proud of Mason and Chloe’s pups that she kept from the recent litter. Simon and Avery made their recent show debuts and they are both happy and enthusiastic show pups.
Pretty puppy Finis (Ed & MJ Odron) has made quite a splash in the ring. She has won WB in her last three outings, along with a Puppy Group One and a Puppy BIS!
Rover sends get well wishes to Jessie (Donna O’Toole). Get well soon Jessie!
The 2015 NCWFA Baby Boom continues:
Kitty (Erin Campbell) had four pups (2 girls, 2 boys) in April. These cute kids are currently cruising around the whelping box on their way to the show ring, and coursing field.
Miss Bennett (Jean Balint) had six bouncing babies , 3 and 3, on May 10th. These pups, sired by super-racing “red dawg” Marshall will
be burning up the tracks in 2016 for sure!
Natasha (Brad Briscoe) will obviously be gracing us with MANY puppies at the end of May. Poor girl is h-u-g-e!
Rover knows he is not a whippet, but we were sad to hear of the passing of Gunther (Andrea Mey-er), whippet pal, super Persian, and “angry cat” muse for many a SPEED photograph. Gunther was a fixture at Andrea’s home and raised many generations of River Myst whippets, as well as greeting visitors with his unique Persian style. Gunther we will miss you!
From Susan Moore: “As some of you may know, my 11-year-old whippet, Shadow, was diagnosed with a subdermal hemangiosar-coma a few months back. After surgery and multiple complications due to the administration of electro-chemotherapy to the tumor site, I'm thrilled to report with great relief and gratitude that my beauti-ful boy is finally on the road to recovery. “
ROVER hears a lot, but she can’t know everything! To be sure your brags & news appears in the ROVER REPORT-ER please drop Rover an email at [email protected].

the last meeting minutes as published in
SPEED. Jen Haas seconded the motion.
Officer's Reports
President's Report: No report.
Secretary's Report: No report.
Treasurer's Report: No report.
Committee Reports
Coursing: Debby reported that Tina Gra-
ham and Jen Haas have stepped forward to
take over the lure coursing chairmanship
jointly. They still must be appointed by
the Board, which will be voting soon on all
the new chairs. The Club is still looking for
someone to tow the trailer and maintain
the equipment. Another club approached
our school coursing site to use our usual
weekend for their event. They contacted
Russell, since they want to let us use the
site, before any other club. We are re-
served for our June and November dates
with CA Jacobs school in Dixon. Discus-
sion ensued regarding the pros and cons of
partnering with the Saluki Club again for a
future lure event.
Show: MJ reported that since this year is
the 20th anniversary of our Specialty, she
would like us to give prizes to each dog
who is entered. Most entries will not win
big and they usually get nothing. She also
would like us to have the wine and cheese
before the meeting, after BOB. The mem-
bers present approved both of these pro-
posals. Our Specialty will be dedicated to
John Shelton. We do not yet have infor-
mation on who our breed judges will be
for the Friday and Sunday shows.
Membership: Guin presented the Associ-
ate application of Bonnie Moore. Bonnie
was voted into membership by the mem-
bers present.
Racing: Jean reported that plans are well
underway for our spring race meets, to be
held in Fairfield on May 30-31st. Unfortu-
nately there is not time to schedule a prac-
tice day before these events.
Rescue: Duncan Waldrop has stepped for-
ward to take over the Rescue Team Coor-
dinator position. He needs to approved by
the Board. Rescue has been remarkably
slow.
Speed: Guin reported that covers are avail-
able for several issues of SPEED. Please let
her know if you would like to reserve a
cover.
Website: No report.
Whippetbilia: Marrianne will have all in-
ventory at the May races.
New Business: Debby passed out ballots
to those present who may have not voted
online for the date and location of the Jubi-
lee. Voting will be closed on April 1st.
The next meeting was decided to be held
on Sunday, May 17th in Vallejo at the Coy-
ote Hills KC show.
Brags commenced and the meeting was
adjourned at 11:20 AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Guin Borstel, Secretary.

“The hard part will be life without the most amazing canine soul I've ever known. I will miss her sweetness, her silliness, her woo woo's, her love nibbles and crocodile snaps, I will miss her clumsiness, her snaggletooth and her sleepy smiles. I will miss her in every way.
I will cherish every "Hoot" adventure and moment. I know so many others knew and loved her too so I want to say thank you and she loved you too.” – Sarah Herrick
“Haily was a great Grand Prix dog. She was from the 1st litter that Sarah helped care for on our farm in Woodland. So, appro-priately I believe it was meant to be that they were together until the end. Haily was the exact copy of her dad (Tigger) in tem-perament – they were such a joy to live with. Haily was always “up” and such an easy dog to show. She won BOB at the Inland Empire Hound show in Jan 2002, beating many top dogs that day. We were all so proud. I always considered it a specialty win since the entry numbers were so great.” – Wendy Gay

…and of course sincerest thanks to our judges:
Mrs. Betsy Prior, Dr. John Burger, Mrs. Rosalee Alvarez, Mrs. Shari Mason, Mrs. Jean Balint &
Mrs. Betty Stites!
Dr. John Burger had the wonderful pleasure of judging our puppy sweepstakes. What a fun job! John said he really
had a great time, because he didn’t know anyone nor had he seen any of these dogs before. It was a hard day’s
work with so many lovely puppies being presented. John awarded Best in Sweeps to the 6-9 month puppy dog, Joan
Damon’s Delacreme Hitman.
Mrs. Betsy Prior was overwhelmed with the size of the entry (97)! She was so pleased to have been chosen to do
our Specialty as her last judging assignment. In a great entry she awarded BOB to Ch. Lambay’s Spice in Castle-
crest, bred by Pam Lambie & owned by Pam & Ron & Linda Waggoner. BOS to Ch. Chelsea Antipodes LCM,
BOW to Festiva Diamonds Are Forever & WD to Blueskies Burdock.
Rosalee Alvarez kept her sense of humor watching whippets do their faux drop-on-recall in the wet grass at 9 AM.
How can we thank you enough, Shari Mason? Mrs. Mason did all but jump on the ring ropes to keep the whippet
and greyhound rings running smoothly while she juggled the junior handlers. All in all, it turned out to be a great day,
with none of us the worse for wear.
On Sunday, the NCWFA supported the whippet entry at the Del Valle Dog Club of Livermore on the same grounds.
We were all able to let our hair down a little and let the other club take over the burden of the day! Jean Balint
judged the Sweepstakes and found Starline’s Exotica to be her choice for BISweeps. Another beautiful day of whip-
pets with a great entry carried over for Betty Stites to judge. She found her BOB in the Lawrence’s Ch. Starline’s
Tapestry, with BOS to Ch. Festiva’s Knickerbocker, WD & BOW to Chelsea Champagne & WB to Milescross Double
Indemnity SC.

Rover Knows Even More:
***Jan Ferry & Sue Oace are trying not to get too excited about the early success of their new puppy, Galewind’s a
Striking Moment (Allie). At nine weeks, Allie made her debut (with Jan making her debut as handler) at the
NCWC 4th of July fun match & took BOS to her brother Artie, owned by Bev West, who is also the breeder of the
litter. On September 24th, Allie took BOB over 5 3-6 month puppies and went on to a Hound Group One at the Chief
Solano Match. The next weekend at the PWCNC match Allie again took BOB over 5 puppies and again went on to
first place in the group. A star is born?
***Windy Glen’s Raku FCh. Finished her LCM at the October 7th IWHC trial in
LA. Onyx was first, Raku was second, Kazam was 3rd, and Doc was 4th, making
a clean sweep for the Alchemy/Beetz family.
***Julia (Guin Borstel, Christine Borstel & Dan & Leslie Silva) is very
proud of her children. Her older daughter, Demi, can now be officially
known as Ch. Milescross Double Indemnity, as she finished her
championship with a BIG five-point-major the day after our Specialty!
Julia is also proud of her younger daughters; Jasmine (Ed & Mary
Jean Odron) was BOB, Group 1 and Best in Match at her first outing,
while Minnie (Borstel & Silva), who has been shown at matches twice,
won BOB twice, and took home two Group 1s! Julia would also like to
mention her son Bentley, who got four more points and now needs
only a major to finish his AKC title. Bentley and Demi’s sister Lina
won BOB at the Richmond KC show, defeating lots of nice dogs, in-
cluding a Top Ten champion. Julia is enjoying relaxing in retirement and watch-
ing her kids win.
