The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge This is now open and we are excited to be participating. The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8th September 2017. Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books. All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier.

On Monday, our Year 5/6 Girls’ Netball Team represented the school

in their determination and effort throughout the day, showing
outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship against extremely
tough opposition and competition in all 5 games. A big thank
you to Amy Boland who gave up her time to work with the
girls this term and coach them through to a fabulous
achievement of reaching the Division level!

Debating Last night our two Year 6 Debating teams competed in their 2nd debate, hosting Westbourne Grammar here at Wallington. The topic for argument was “That there should be a sugar tax.” Both teams per-formed exception-
ally well, with the adjudicator giving
high praise to all four teams on their
research, presenta-tion and delivery of information.
The outcome was extremely close, with only a narrow margin of one point separating the teams on both occasions - our “A” team
being successful with their case for the affirmative. A special congratulations to Jessica Considine and Genevieve Kelly who
were both awarded ‘Best Speaker of the Debate’ for their role as 3rd speakers in the ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams respectively. A huge thank you to all the parents that assisted in the preparation for this de-
bate and our wonderful Wallington supporters who came to watch amidst parent teacher interviews!
