ANNOUNCEMENT 4TO THE CITIZENS OF GARRARD COUNTY

At the practically unanimous demand of my own party and urgent solicitation of other friends I have at last consented to become a candidate forthe office of County Attorney on the Republican ticket

I had not expected to again ask for the suffrage of my fellowcitizensbut in view of the great number of electors regardless of their party affiliation who have seen proper to insist on my nomination I have with some rarequestP for their support for this oneof the most important offices in the gift of ist people I am not unmindful ofdutiesItpeaceimportantfactorCourtfindsyear current expenses of your county affairs

And in this connection I hope I may be pardoned for referring withsome pride to my former administration of this important duty during theterm I had the honor to occupy the office and when after my repeated as-saults on all useless extravagance and on certain most time honored leaks inr county treasury the levy necessary to meet all the current expenses ofyour county and then leave a handsome surplus in your treasury at the close

the year was less than onethird barely more than onefourth of theamount of each andmyretirementAndofthecases and withblind tigers not only flourishing throughout the county but with their Government Licenses all over the corporate limits of Lancaster actually boastingof theirwhiskyandattorney being here-after practically the only safeguard to prevent their extending their sphereandimportanceboysfromthemtowhetherthisWith aconception ¬lathekeeperadrpledgevoubesimportant duties as to not only encourage andthrou2houttheand unnec-essary ¬drains and expenses on your county treasuryfornyou personally I take this methodannouncing my candidacy and assuring you that if my candidacy meets withyour approva I shallrender¬W McC JOHNSTONp
