This group decided it was time to end our old method of record keeping . . . !
8
As the piles of paper and binders continued growing!
9
It was time to get rid of the old forms
• Form 152’s
10
• Form 159’s
11
• Stock Inventory Sheets
12
• Egg sheets
13
• Plant sheets
14
• and, Adult Sheets (eventually!)
15
It’s time we moved to the computer age via the information highway!

What Does Fish Books Do?
• Fish Books is designed to enable the flow of information efficiently – and to allow for the access of up-to-date records for all hatchery programs.
• The key components of Fish Books are:
18
1. The Future Brood Document
19
Future Brood Status a convenient reference tool
20
2. Containers
a. Lists by fish inventories and size . . .
21
b. Sampling updates . . .
22
Recent eventssampling type & description
23
c. Eggs & tray #’s . . .
24
d. Feed type and totals . . .
25
d. Loadings and densities
26
e. Water flows
27
f. And, of course, mortalities !
28
3. Incubation
• Keep track of inventory . . .
29
• Keep track of location• List incubators by tray #’s• Track development
30
Egg activities include: Shocking, picking, treatment, move and ship/receive
31
4. Rearing
32
Rearing includes:feed, mortality, treatment, adjustments, splits,
ship/receive & plants
33
a. Feeding fish . . .
34
b. Pond inventories
35
Rearing containers include: brood, # fish, fish size, biomass, capacity, flows & more
36
Example of Flows: take measurements and record
37
5. Adults
38
Adult screen activities under construction. Includes: mortality, surplus, ship, plant
(return to stream), & feed
39
Adult spawning list
40
Why Fish Books?
• Program is based on the life cycle of fish
41
• Program built primarily for hatchery workers.
42
Program intended to minimize paperwork.
43
Doesn’t take a genius to operate Fish Books
44
Fish Books is for Everyone !
• Access it at anytime, anywhere!
45
Read Only Version
• People outside WDFW will be able to access up-to-date fish data (e.g. plants, escapement) via a reporting tool being developed.
46
Everything will be kept in a searchable file . . . .
Easily accessible information
47
What it can do
• Saves all data in a file• Allow accessibility for all Fish Program staff
48
“Real Time” Data
• Hatchery managers, biologists, and hatchery workers look at the same piece of information.
49
What it Can’t Do
• Feed fish
50
• Clean ponds
51
• Weigh eggs
52
• Work in ponds
53
• Plant fish . . .
54
However . . .The future of hatchery data is bright!
• Have more time on your hands for . . .!
55
We can now move forward!
56
Everyone in WDFW will use it!(or else)
57
Let it Snow !?
58
Happy Holidays!
