Weather vs. Climate
VocabularyWeather-daily or
hourly changes in the climate.Climate-usual
weather in a long period of time in a place.
• Climate is the usual weather so it affects every day weather
• North Carolina has a subtropical climate. There are many different types of climates such as tropical ,polar and desert.

The water cycle and weather
Water is necessary to all life on Earth.Every part of the water cycle influencesWeather. The water cycle controls the Distribution of water on earth and in theatmosphere. Clouds and precipitationAre evidence of water moving through The water cycle.
![Page 7: Weather and Climate. Vocabulary *weather *climate *evaporation *condensation *precipitation *runoff *clouds *air pressure *temperature *wind *density](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022081503/56649d575503460f94a3655f/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
The water cycle and climateThe water cycle also shapes climates around the world. Precipitation or water in that falls from the clouds is one of the ways people classify climate .The average precipitationIn a region tells us what type of climate it . The water cycle creates reservoirs to store water . The Ocean is a good example .

FRONTAL BOUNDARIES Vocabulary Air Masses-a large
body of air with only small horizontal variations of temperature, air pressure and moisture.
Front-the interface between air masses of different temperatures or densities .
Changes in the weather happen as different air masses move through a region. Something you may not realize is that fronts not only extend in the horizontal direction but in the vertical as well.

Warm fronts and Cold fronts
Warm front A warm front is the
transition zone where a warm air mass is replacing a warmer air mass . On a weather map a warm front is represented by a solid line with triangles point to the warmer air.
Cold Front
Is the transition where a cold air mass is replacing a warmer air mass. On a weather map a cold front is represented by a solid line with semi-circles.

TemperatureTemperature
Temperature tells us if the air is warm or cold. Density is the amount of matter in an object. The
density of the air depends of it temperature. Temperature is influenced by cloud cover.

AIR PRESSURE
Air pressure is the weight of the air above the Earth's surface.
High pressure occurs when the air pressure is greater than the surrounding area. High pressure usually means dry weather and cooler temperatures. Low pressure occurs
when the air pressure is lower than surrounding areas. Low pressure usually
means wet weather and warmer weather.

CloudsClouds are water droplets or ice crystals in the air .
They play a major role in weather. They have an influence in the temperature and bring different
types of precipitation . The four different types of precipitation are rain, snow, sleet and hail . Clouds
commonly form at frontal boundaries and around areas of low pressure .Clouds also block
radiation form the Sun. This influences temperatures.

Precipitation
Precipitation is a solid or liquid water that falls from a cloud tothe surface of the earth. Precipitation is likely when two differentair masses meet at a frontal boundary. High humidity also increaseschance of precipitation .

Weather builds climate records
Scientists need a lot of data to predict weather. Trends are patterns in weather . They show consistent changes in the weather . This makesforecasting easier. Trends in weather tell us about climate. A climateRecord is a historical record of weather data for a specific region.
