STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: St. Peter's HighSchool, Jammu on Tuesdayreverberated with joyous cel-ebrations as the Diocese ofJammu-Srinagar EducationSociety felicitated the posi-tion holders of classes X andXII for the academic year2017-18 in JKBOSE andCBSE Board examinationsand honoured teachers andsupporting staff who ren-dered 25 years of continuousservice in schools owned bythe Society.

Sanjeev Verma, DivisionalCommissioner Jammu andRajeshwar Singh, AIG(Personnel) PHQ, J&K werethe Chief Guest and Guestof Honour respectively.

Welcoming the dignitariesand guests, Rev. Fr. T.SJacob, the Chairman ofDiocese Education Boardhighlighted the history of

missionary endeavor in edu-cation in the State ofJammu and Kashmir that isdated back to the 19th cen-tury.

The first Catholic Schoolwas established inBaramulla in 1905 andsince then the Church hasbeen playing a lead role intaking education to themasses.

In his address to theachievers, Chief Guest of theday, Sanjeev Verma, praised

the contributions of the mis-sionaries in providing quali-ty education to the people ofthe State. He also appreciat-ed their commitment to goto the farthest pockets of theState to spread educationand together with it lessonsin high moral values.

He urged the Society toconsider opening moreschools in rural areas whileat the same time upgradingthe existing schools toaccommodate the demand.

Congratulating the stu-dents, Rajeshwar Singh,exhorted them to choosestudies and careers based ontheir aptitude and not mere-ly on pressures and pullsfrom the families.

Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira con-gratulated the position hold-ers and hoped that suchevents will inspire more andmore students to excel intheir studies.

Emphasising on the com-mitment, he said that theDiocese has truly been achampion of not only edu-cating the children, but alsoempowering and enrichingtheir lives based on moralvalues.

who stood first in theJKBOSE examinations heldin March 2018 with 496marks (99.2 per cent).Contributions of ManmeetSingh, an office staff at St.Peter's High School, B CRoad (Jammu) and HamamDass, a supporting staff atHoly Family Convent HighSchool, Nagari-Parole(Kathua) over 25 years intheir respective schools wereacknowledge during theAwards Ceremony.

Students of St. Peter'sHigh School laced the color-ful event with soulful cultur-al programmes. The pro-gramme also witnessed par-ticipation of students, par-ents and teachers from vari-ous units of the society inJammu as well as Kashmir.Fr. S. STATE TIMES NEWSKATHUA: JK Public School (JKPS) Kathuashined in Khelo India TaekwondoCompetition organised by the J&K StateSports Council under Khelo India scheme.

JKPS Kathua won 14 medals including fivegold, four silver and five bronze.

Gold medal winners were Aryan Sharma ofclass 9th, Anamika of class 10th, VedanshiRajput of class 3rd A, Ayush Nirankari ofclass 4th B, Krish Singh of class 5th A whilesilver medals were won by Ayush Sharma of

class 9th, Nehal Jasrotia of class 10th,Shivdeep Salaria of class 9th and Janvi Singhof class 9th and Vastavi Dubey of class 2nd A,Manik Sharma of class 3rd B, Akhil Abrol ofclass 6th, Prachi Sharma of class 9th, SakshiDevi of class 9th won bronze medals.

The Principal, Anil Pathania and the schoolmanagement congratulated the achievers fortheir outstanding performance.

The efforts of the Coach Anchal Sharmawere also appreciated in training the stu-dents.

Earlier, The Principal of theSchool, R.K Verma, who wasthe Chief Guest on the occa-sion, interacted with both theteam captains and the play-ers and wished them all thebest. The toss was won bythe DPS Panthers and decid-ed the goal post. Both theteams have nail biting finish

and DPS Panthers won byfour goals.

SPORTS REPORTERJAMMU: State SportClimbers gave a creditable per-formance by winning fourmedals including gold and twosilvers in the Second IMF AllIndia Sport ClimbingChampionship which conclud-ed at Indore, the other day.

Whereas Shivani Charak, aninternational climber, baggedthe gold and silver medal inLead and Speed climbingrespectively in the women cate-gory, Ajay Deep Singh, anoth-er good climber, also baggedtwo medals including a silverand a bronze in Lead andSpeed climbing respectively inthe Junior Boys category.

Arun Deep Singh, anothertalented climber of J&K nar-rowly missed medals both inLead and Speed climbing andfinally finished fourth in boththe categories.

Since it was a ranking com-petition Shivani Charak with agold (100 points) and a silver

medal (80 points) in her kittyincreased her points tally to360 points and has nowbecome the top ranked womenclimber in the country.

Meanwhile, Shivani Charakleft today for Chongqing,China along with 10 othermembers of the Indian team toparticipate in the Asian YouthChampionship being held therefrom November 1 t0 4.

The other J&K climbers alsoexcelled in various categoriesbut somehow remained medalless. Ritesh Sharma in theJunior Boys category andRandeep Singh in Sub Juniorcategories who had raisedvision of a medals by enteringthe knock out round of thespeed competition, could notprogress beyond the quarterfi-

nal stage. Over all it was an excellent

performance by the eight mem-bers team with six climbersentering the final rounds invarious forms of competitionsand two climbers winninggold, two silvers and onebronze medal in their respec-tive categories. Manik Slathiaaccompanied the State team asManager-cum-Coach.

On return from the All Indiacompetition, the team alongwith the Manager cum Coach,Manik Slathia called on theSecretary, MountaineeringAssociation of J&K (MAJK),Ram Khajuria and ArtiSharma, Principal Apple Kids,Bantalab, Jammu.

Both congratulated theclimbers for their brilliant per-formance in the NationalCompetition and hoped thatthe climbers would work morehard and win more medals forthe state. Arti Sharmaassured the climbers that theSchool shall provide the neces-sary infrastructural andcoaching facilities and all otherpossible help for the promotionof the game. Satish Bhan andSonam Sidharth, an executivemember of MountaineeringAssociation of J&K wereprominent among others pres-ent on the occasion.

STATE TIMES NEWSRAJOURI: In a major initia-tive to promote sports culturein the district, the Rajouriadministration on Tuesdaydecided to provide sportsequipments to all 1,924 gov-ernment schools in the district.

Deputy CommissionerMohammad Aijaz Asadannounced here at meetingconvened to review availabilityof sports equipments in educa-tional institutions across thedistrict.

The district has 43 HigherSecondary Schools, 135 HighSchools, 435 Middle Schoolsand rest are Primary Schools,the meeting was told.

It was also informed thatthere is an immediate require-ment of sports material in theschools.

Addressing the infrastruc-ture deficit issue, the DDCdecided that district adminis-tration shall provide the neces-sary sports material to all theschools as per the requirement

projected by the Departmentof Youth Services and Sportsand School Education depart-ment.

The sports material shall beage and class specific and shallinclude sports like cricket, foot-ball, volleyball, badminton,kho-kho, rope skipping,wrestling, etc.

The DC impressed upon theofficers to encourage the schoolgoing students to participate insports activities for their bettermind and body and to earn lau-rels for themselves. "We arecommitted to provide the bestfacilities and sports logistics toour young talents across thedistrict" he said.

The DDC also impressedupon the officers to projecttheir requirements for thesmooth conduct of sportsevents. He stressed on register-ing maximum number ofsports persons and directed theblock level officers to updatethe office on weekly basis aboutthe activities being undertaken.

STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: To establish andpromote the importance ofgood oral care habits, freeoral dental check up campwas organised atInternational Delhi PublicSchool (IDPS), here.

The camp was initiatedwith dental awareness talk,educating students aboutcommon dental ailments,especially stressing on toothdecay and gum diseases andmeasures to prevent them.

The students were briefedabout the eating patternsand food choices which causetooth decay. The camp gavethe opportunity to assess theoral health awareness amongthe students and learn aboutthe oral hygiene practiceswhich are of great impor-tance in day to day life.

Moreover free samples oftooth pastes and oral hygienecare were distributedamongst IDPIAN's and thestaff.
