Supported Learning Annual Christmas Concert
Our students from the Supported Learning Classes have once again put on
a wonderful performance at their annual Christmas concert. All students
did themselves proud singing Christmas songs and trying to ensure that
Santa would bring rain to all the farmers. It was so lovely to see so many families joining
us to support the children and end our school year in in such a fun way. A big thank you
to the staff who make this such a special event for our students and a big thank you to
the kids for working so hard to put on a brilliant show.
Year 6 Graduation
It is always wonderful to see our Year 6 students attend their Year 6 Graduation last
Thursday. They were all dressed up and made the most of their exciting night with their
peers, staff and parents. Congratulations to all of our Year 6 students on their
graduation and we wish you the best of luck in your journey as Year 7 students in 2019.
Port Idol
Such talent, enthusiasm and fantastic performances again this year in our Port Idol last
Friday. We were so grateful to have Riley Paige join us as a guest judge and share with
us two beautiful songs. She was certainly very inspiring for our student body.
Congratulations to all students who performed and inspired us all.
Presentation Day-Principal message……
Congratulations to all students who received awards at our Presentation Day on
Wednesday. I am delighted to be relieving in Mr Thurgate’s position as he continues to
enjoy his leave in Japan. Mr Thurgate has in fact sent me a message all the way from
Japan for the presentation assembly. He would like me to firstly thank all parents and
families for your involvement in our school this year. Being a strong and cohesive school
community we are able to continue our focus on the most important element - our
students.
Our teachers, visiting teachers, support and administrative staff are one of the most
dedicated groups of people you will ever come across. They are a highly dedicated group
of people who work tirelessly in providing great opportunities for your children. Our
staff continually focus on giving students options in life and skills to be successful. It is
an absolute privilege to work alongside such a wonderful staff who always go above and
beyond each and every day. My sincere thanks to you all.
Boys and girls –You are the most important part of our school community and we love the
way that you involve yourself in school life, participate positively, care for each other,
accept differences and enjoy being part of our school. You have grown in maturity as a
school group and to see you all shine in your individual way makes us all very proud of you
Mr Thurgate says……” Thanks for making our school great.”
Our P&C continues to support our school in a positive way. They have worked hard as a
growing group this year and have successfully maintained the excellent relationship
this body has with the school. The donation of funds to support our students and
ratification of school planning and policy have been greatly appreciated. Thanks to
Emma and her team for their ongoing commitment and support.
I personally thank the Executive team for their hard work, planning, organisation and
support of staff, students and parents throughout the year. Ang, Shelley, Mel, Toni
and Mel work tirelessly in order to make great things happen in our school. I have
sincerely appreciated the support you have given to our school this year and to me
relieving in Brett’s role. I value your professionalism, collegiality and dedication to
our students.
2018 has been a very busy year with our school achieving so many wonderful things
and providing such fantastic opportunities for learning. As we move towards the end
of the busy year we say farewell to Mrs Deone Ward who has been a much loved
teacher in our school. We will certainly miss all the great times with you and the way
she makes us laugh. Good luck with the next chapter in your life Mrs Ward.
Congratulations to Mrs McMahon and her husband Troy on the birth of their baby
boy. Such exciting news to hear at the end of the year.
We also farewell our School Chaplain – Petra Fisher in 2019. Petra has supported our
school beautifully working with our students and has certainly kept us all very healthy
with all the lovely fresh fruit. We wish you well Petra.
I would like to acknowledge all of our parents and carers who have worked alongside
us in supporting our students throughout the year. Through your support, open and
honest communication in a respectful manner, and willingness to make decisions with
us around ‘what’s best for children’, we will continue to enable our students to engage
successfully at school and in life as safe, respectful, cooperative and responsible
young people.
Finally Mr Thurgate would like me to wish Year 6 every success for the next
chapter of your education. We encourage you all to embrace every opportunity which
comes your way in life. Make the most of these opportunities and we hope that when
you look back at your time at Port Macquarie Public School it will be with fond
memories, pride and happiness in your success here with us. “If you can imagine
it……you can achieve it. Girls and boys….If you can dream it you can become it.”
Merry Christmas everyone. See you all in 2019.

TREE OF HOPE CAMPAIGN This year our school was offered the opportunity to
participate in the Tree of Hope Campaign run by Port
Macquarie Panthers. Participating schools were
invited to decorate a tree in a way that best represents
their school. At Port Macquarie Public School we pride
ourselves on our inclusive approach to education and
therefore chose to decorate our tree with the school
motto of “Every Face Has a Place” as the theme. Each
student created a decoration that included a photo of
themselves and these were placed on our school tree
at Panthers. Getting over 400 decorations on a 180cm
tree was no easy task but it is true that at PMPS every
face has a place and we managed to get them all on!
Luckily we aren’t the only ones who value our students
and everything our school stands for and we are
stoked to have been awarded the General Managers
Award and a prize of $3000! This money will be used
to purchase new Literacy texts for next year. A huge
congratulations and many thanks to all our wonderful
students and staff for the amazing effort they put in to
achieve this fantastic result.
