2013 Results: The Hounds and Rattlers split their regular-season series, with each team winning its respective road game.
All-Time Series: The Rattlers lead the series 3-2.
Last Meeting: These teams first faced each other in Week 10, over July 4th Weekend. The game was closely contested to start, but thanks to three goals from Justin Turri and two from Jordan Wolf, the Rattlers built a 10-5 lead by halftime. Coming out of the break, Mike Sawyer shifted momentum in favor of the Hounds, tallying back-to-back goals – including a 2-pointer – to pull the game within three. The rally continued into the final minutes of the fourth quarter, as Justin Ward tallied two goals in 18 seconds to make it a 15-13 game with 54 seconds left on
the clock. Adam Ghitelman came up with some big saves to keep the Hounds’ hopes alive, but the offense couldn’t come through, leaving the final score 15-13 in favor of the Rattlers. The Hounds – using a tandem of Tim Fallon and Brendan Fowler – had the faceoff edge (17-30) and won the groundball game (37 to 29). The Hounds
even outshot the Rattlers, 29 to 23, but John Galloway was sensational in net, finishing with 17 saves.
HOUNDS
Playoff hopes are on the line this week, after the Hounds dropped a crucial game in overtime to the Machine last
Saturday. It began as a low scoring affair, with the Machine holding a 3-1 lead after the first. But Justin
Ward scored three goals in the second quarter, giving the Hounds a 5-4 advantage at the half. Both teams
found their offensive groove in the third, trading runs that ultimately left the game locked at 9 going into the final quarter. Logan Schuss’ third goal of the night gave the Machine a one-goal lead just 3:29 into the fourth and the next 8:00 went scoreless thanks to fantastic
goaltending at both ends. Ryan Young was able to force the equalizer with 3:23 left on the clock before a mental
error cost the Hounds possession and Brian Farrell capitalized to put the Machine back in front. But it was
Young again who scored with 2 seconds to play and sent the game to OT. The Hounds couldn’t finish their
opportunities in the extra period, however, and Tom Schreiber scored the game-winner after 4:59 of play to
seal a 13-12 victory for the Machine.
Players To Watch
Matt Danowski (A) – The captain has quietly tallied two goals in each of the last four games.
Henry Lobb (D) – The rookie doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet but makes his presence felt on the field.
Josh Hawkins (M) – Constantly creating scoring opportunities with his wing and transition play.
RATTLERS
The Rattlers won their fourth-straight game last week, beating the Bayhawks 10-7, to remain atop the MLL
standings. Drew Westervelt got the Bayhawks on the board first, but Mark Cockerton responded with four-
straight goals to give the Rattlers a 4-1 advantage after two quarters. The Bayhawks came out shooting in the third, outscoring the Rattlers 6-3, including two
goals each from Westervelt and Joe Walters, to tie the game going into the final quarter. Goalie John Galloway was at his best in the fourth, making six
saves to keep the Bayhawks scoreless in the period. The Rattlers’ offense rewarded the defense’s effort, scoring three more goals to account for a 10-7 final.
John Ortalni went 11-21 on faceoffs, and the groundballs were even at 32 each.
Players To Watch
Mark Cockerton (A) – The rookie has tallied eight goals in the past two games – including three against
the Hounds in Week 10 – to account for half his season total of 16.
Jordan Wolf (A) – The Hounds didn’t have an answer for him in their first matchup, as he put up a hat trick
and earned Player of the Game honors.
John LoCascio (D) – Another rookie who has made an immediate impact, he ranks third on the team with 32
groundballs.

NOTEWORTHY – July 26, 2014
PUSH FOR THE POSTSEASON: The Outlaws clinch a playoff spot with a win OR with a loss to the Machine AND a Cannons loss OR with a loss to the Machine by just one point….The Rattlers clinch a playoff spot with a win OR with a loss to the Hounds AND either a Cannons or Machine loss….The Lizards clinch a playoff spot with a win….The Bayhawks are eliminated with a loss to the Lizards…..No other team can clinch or be eliminated in
Week 12 and no team can clinch home field advantage in Week 12.
A LONELY ROAD: The Hounds are the only MLL team that has yet to win a road game this season. They have lost games at Denver, New York, Boston, Florida and Ohio. Meanwhile, the Rattlers are one of two teams that
are undefeated at home. The Lizards are the other.
I LOVE GOLD: Faceoff specialist Geoff Snider last Saturday won his second Gold Medal with Team Canada at the FIL World Championships, defeating Team USA 8-5. Snider also was part of the 2006 Gold-Medal winning
squad, for which he was named MVP of the tournament. He won a Silver Medal in the 2010 World Championships as well.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Israel Lacrosse made its FIL debut at last week’s World Championship, and Casey
Cittadino was a member of the squad that finished the tournament in seventh place.
DOUBLE DARE: The Hounds and Rattlers have allowed the fewest 2-point goals in the league, with only three apiece. Meanwhile, the Hounds rank second in the MLL with seven 2-point goals. Mike Sawyer has accounted for three of those, which ranks him second only to the Outlaws’ Jeremy Sieverts, who has seven 2-point goals.
WE’RE GOING STREAKING: Ryan Young enters Week 12 riding a 26-game streak of recording at least one
point, dating back to Aug. 11, 2012 (including the postseason)….Rookie Justin Ward has now tallied multiple points in each game since his MLL debut on May 30, for a total of seven-straight games.
JUST IN TIME: Ward now leads the Hounds with 26 points. Last week’s game against the Machine was the first time this season that the rookie failed to tally an assist, with all three of his points coming off first-half goals.
He is averaging 3.71 points per game, which ranks him eighth among all MLL players.
BALL SO HARD: Ryan Flanagan is tied for third among MLL defenders with 46 groundballs. The Rattlers’ Joel White leads the pack with 59.
THE CENTENNIAL CLUB: Matt Danowski is five assists away from 100 on his career….Ryan Young (66g, 25a) is
nine points away from 100 on his career.…Brett Schmidt is four groundballs away from 100 on his career.
