December is a wonderful time to visit theschool and enjoy a concert, extracurricularactivity or athletic event. The choirs and bands have been busy preparing for holidayconcerts and the athletic teams are preparingfor their competition seasons. It is difficult to believe that we are ap- proaching the end of the second grading period. The first semester will come to aconclusion on Friday, December 18. It is agood time to remind you that our highschool students will be taking their semesterexams on Thursday, December 17 and Fri-day, December 18, so attendance is vital.
As we approach the end of the second grad-ing period, I encourage parents to utilizeProgressbook to stay informed of yourchild’s grades. If you have any questionsabout grades, I encourage you to contact the

Honor Roll —I would like to congratulateeach of our students who earned their placeon the Honor Roll for the first grading peri-od. The middle/high school had approxi-mately 220 students earning this placement,which demonstrates the emphasis on aca-demics. One of our goals is to continuallychallenge these students towards their trueacademic potential.
The staff would like to thank the parentswho attended the Parent-Teacher Confer-ences on October 27 and November 5. Themore interaction/communication betweenthe school and home, the greater success ourstudents will achieve. I would like to thankthe middle/high school staff for their efforts.They are truly a dedicated group who hasyour child’s best interest at heart.

OGT —Those students who took the fallOhio Graduation Test will have their resultsavailable mid– to late December 2015. Wewill mail the results as soon as the districtreceives them. The spring Ohio GraduationTest will be here before you know it. Thespring 2016 OGT will be administered toany junior or senior who hasn’t passed allfive subject tests.
The Spelling Bee for grades 5-8 will be heldon December 11, at 1:30 in the auditeria.This event will begin shortly after the lunch-es have been completed and will last untilthe end of the school day. We invite all par-ticipants’ parents and/or grandparents toattend and support them. We ask that youenter the building through the high schooloffice.

ELA Testing —During the mornings of De-cember 8 and 9, our third grade students will be taking the fall English Language Artsonline test. There are two sessions to this
test. Students will complete one session onthe 8th, and the second session on the 9th.The results from this test will be used todetermine whether or not a student hasachieved the satisfactory score for the ThirdGrade Reading Guarantee. If a student doesnot pass the fall test, they will have a secondchance to pass in the spring. Please be surethat your child gets a good night’s sleep anda healthy breakfast on these days, to giveyour child the best chance to do well on thistest. Music— Recently our fourth grade students
performed the musical production “At theBandstand.” Congratulations on a job welldone to the students, Mrs. Mary Smith, andthe students operating the lights and sound.It was a wonderful evening of excitementfor all that attended. Our second and thirdgrade students are busily preparing for theirwinter concert that will be held on Decem- ber 1, at 7:00 p.m. in the auditeria. Pleasecome out and support our students, and helpto put yourself in the holiday spirit. Onceagain, thank you to Mrs. Mary Smith andMrs. Andrea Newell for their hard work in preparing the students for this concert.
The PTO has their fundraising awards as-sembly on November 23. A special thanks
to the members of the PTO that helped toorganize and run this event. This organiza-tion donates much time and effort in helpingto provide resources to our students andteachers. The PTO is continuing to seekmore community members to be a part oftheir organization. Please contact the ele-mentary office if you are interested in join-ing the PTO, or just attend the monthlymeetings at 7:00 p.m. on the second Tues-day of each month.
Volunteers— The elementary is continuingto seek community volunteers to help out inthe classroom. There are currently manyvolunteers that assist the teachers in theclassroom, but our teachers would welcome
