Parents, The most important thing you can do to help your child in reading is to sit beside him/her , look at the book and listen to it being read. At the beginning of 1st grade students should be reading
Level 4 books but must read a Level16 by the end of 1st grade.

Students are taught skills at school for getting words they don't know, such as: 1. Get your lips ready. 2. Sound it out. C---a---t 3. Find the part you know. 4. Skip the word, reread the sentence and see what makes sense.

After reading, ask questions.
