Faculty of Environment
The Faculty is comprised of 3 Schools, each is recognised as internationally excellent (5 or 5*) in the UK’s national Research Assessment Exercise.
400 staff and 140 research students with over 1200 undergraduates and 200 taught postgraduate students.
Subjects offered include geology, environmental science and management, human and physical geography, and transport planning.
Topics studied include earth resources (such as petroleum and water), climate measurement and modelling, tropical ecology, spatial policy and planning, transport congestion, safety and pollution.
School of Earth and Environment
Formed from the merger of the School of Earth Sciences and School of Environment in 2004.
One of the largest schools in the UK with >90 academic staff, >50 support and teaching staff, >100 postgraduate research students.
We use multidisciplinary approaches to study the Earth from its core to its atmosphere. We also examine the social and economic dimensions of sustainability.
We are supported by a wide range of well-equipped laboratories, instrument workshops and continually upgraded computer facilities.
We have strong links with industry thereby giving our graduates excellent employment prospects.
