• Comprehension Center
• Listening Center• Fluency Center
• Spelling Center• Skills Center• Computer Center
![Page 12: Welcome Parents Our goal is to assist our students in learning as much as possible](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062722/56649f295503460f94c43007/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
What’s up in Math?
![Page 13: Welcome Parents Our goal is to assist our students in learning as much as possible](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062722/56649f295503460f94c43007/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
To help “our” students learn as much as possible:
• They must “master” their basic facts this year.
• “Mastery” of the basic facts simplifies every aspect of mathematics from this point forward for all students.
![Page 14: Welcome Parents Our goal is to assist our students in learning as much as possible](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062722/56649f295503460f94c43007/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Which brings us to “Mental Math”
• Most of “our” students’ homework this year will involve their mental math drills.
• These are typically due at the beginning of the week, and will provide students with one of their weekly grades. (See BLUE SHEET)
• Mental Math Quizzes are designed to measure improvement in both speed and accuracy.
![Page 15: Welcome Parents Our goal is to assist our students in learning as much as possible](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062722/56649f295503460f94c43007/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Mental Math - (Continued)
• Accuracy should not be sacrificed for the sake of speed.
• However, speed is the only way to check of “mastery” of the basic facts.
• Thus, improvement is measured in time (minutes and seconds).
![Page 16: Welcome Parents Our goal is to assist our students in learning as much as possible](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062722/56649f295503460f94c43007/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
This is where you come in…
• Please make sure students are practicing at home, and please sign their “blue sheet” to verify this for us each week.
• Each operation should be practiced at least twice a week. Your signature verifies these practice times are accurate.
![Page 17: Welcome Parents Our goal is to assist our students in learning as much as possible](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062722/56649f295503460f94c43007/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
