Wonderful Happenings at Wenty!
The Jazzing up off the externals of Block D is complete! Please enjoy some photos which show you
can’t miss our Before and After School Care facility – OshClub! It is all very cheery. Thanks to our
students who painted our picket fences and Mr Wiles (our GA) who tirelessly attached all the coloured
posts.

The beginning…...
A work in progress……. And then the finished product!
K-2 Cricket Clinic – A special visitor!
Recently we have run an in2CRICKET program for our K-2
students.
The staff who ran the program said our students were well behaved and highly motivated, which was fantastic
to hear!
At last week’s session we had a special visitor attending the program at WPS , Mr Gurinder Sandhu. He has
been educated in Public Education schools throughout his schooling in NSW and has represented in cricket
for Sydney Thunder, NSW Blues and has played a single game for Australia!

*** Winter Uniform now to be worn!***
The Uniform Shop is a service run by the P&C Association at Wentworthville Public School with the help of
volunteer parents/carers from the school. The Uniform Shop is located at “C” Block and is open every
Monday from 8.30am during the school term. The P&C endorse and support the wearing of full school
uniform at our school.
We recommend to all parents/carers of children attending Wentworthville Public School to wear the correct
uniform to school each day and make Wentworthville Public School proud. To assist families in ensuring
their child has the correct uniform, I have sent home a note this week to families to outline the correct
school uniform for our students.
This note is also in the newsletter for your information, and available on the school website here.

One of the most important things you can do to ensure your child has a bright future is to make sure they
attend school every day and arrive on time. The correlation between school attendance and school
achievement is well documented.
Research shows that the more time a child spends at school, the more likely they are to experience school
success. Conversely, late arrival at school through the primary years has been shown to relate to absences
during secondary school and reduced success in learning.
When children miss school, not only is their academic progress impeded, forcing them to catch up on
missed work, they often miss important interactions with their peers. I have observed many students
arriving late at WPS and we as a school want to change this so we can maximise your child’s
learning time and improve learning outcomes.
Did you know?
If students miss as little as eight days each school term each year, by the end of primary school they will
have missed a year of education. Half an hour late each day equals five days absence per year.
The Department of Education has updated and strengthened its Attendance Policy . Please be aware
that :
Students must arrive at school by 8.55am or a partial absence will be recorded on the roll
Parents must supply an explanation of their child’s whole day or partial absence within 7 days from the first
day of their child’s absence period
“Running late” or “slept in” will not be accepted as explanations of lateness and an unjustified partial
absence will be recorded on the roll
Families who wish to travel during the school term will need to complete an “Application for
Extended Leave” obtainable from the school office.
Absences relating to travel will be marked as “Leave” on the roll (if “leave” has been granted by the
Principal) and will contribute to the child’s total absences for the semester indicated on the end-of-
semester report
Home School Liaison Officers have been trained to help you with your child’s attendance. They work
with school staff and communities to monitor and review attendance on a regular basis.
When necessary, Home School Liaison Officers work with families to implement attendance improvement
programs to ensure all students are attending school each day.
If your child is experiencing difficulty and they are not attending school on a regular basis, please contact
the school on (02) 9631 8529 to discuss attendance issues.
