Seton Befriending serviceLady who has been unwell, benefitting from befriending support, now wants to be well enough to become a befriender for someone else
We learn from our own experiences. This is me, my Mum and Dad and my sister
First time we got support• Standard package, not what
my Mum wanted• Took no account of what
worked for my Dad or what the rest of family contributed
• Some elements good but others became increasingly difficult.
• Response was ’never again’ (even though I was saying ‘it doesn’t need to be like this’)
Second time – last year• Assessment started with what
my Dad wanted – keeping his connections
• Great provider – the one we chose
• Lot of flexibility• Care workers who built up a
positive relationship with Dad and the rest of us
What is your outcome? To still go to conferencesAged 89, high (ish) support needs, being part of his community and making a contribution. Getting support that is flexible enough to make that happen.
