In-kind is vital to your child's Head Start or Early Head Start experience. In-kind is an extension of the class-
room or home visits and includes activities you do with your child all the time. In-kind gives you the oppor-
tunity to be your child's teacher. What a great way to spend time together!
Our Early Head Start and Head Start programs are federally funded programs. In-kind is needed in order to
keep servicing children and families in Allen County. It is a requirement of our grant that every dollar Early
Head Start/Head Start receives from the government we must obtain 25% as local match. This local match
is call "in-kind" (or volunteer time).
Each week you will receive an in-kind sheet with daily learning activities
to do with your child(ren). Your child's teacher or home visitor will take
your completed sheets and will give you a new in-kind sheet weekly. If
each family enrolled in our program provides a minimum of one hour a
day of in-kind we will reach our Federal goal each year!
Important reasons for families enrolled in Early Head Start/Head Start to provide In-Kind hours to our program
are:
1. Your time means we remain fully funded! For every hour spent working with your child, approximately $10.00
is earned for the Head Start Program.
2. As your child's first and most important teacher, writing down your In-Kind helps you realize all you do! It ena-
bles you to be a better parent to your child.
3. When you help us, it enables us to serve you and your family better.
There are many ways to earn In-Kind hours, such as...
Volunteering in the classroom.
Preparing materials at home for use in the classroom.
Time spent doing individualized activities with your child daily
(reading, singing, naming colors, playing, counting, sorting laundry…
the list goes on!).
Time spent doing individualized Prenatal Activities.

The home essential bags donated by Procter & Gamble contained items such as: laundry items, toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, baby wipes, shampoo and deodorant. All 103 families and 30 seniors received a bag from Procter & Gamble.
In addition, everyone received certificates for food so they can enjoy a nutritious meal with their family during the Holidays.
“Seal Christmas With Love” is a partnership between WOCAP,
private community businesses and service organizations.
WOCAP’s goal is to ensure all children have gifts during the
holidays and that the families receive a warm, nutritious meal.
The celebration was held on December 21, 2018.
This year, from the generosity of the community, our agency was able to provide
presents for189 children for the holidays. A total of 103 families went home with gifts,
food items & household essentials.
Our agency is grateful to have been able to
distribute more this year than they have ever given
in the past. A total of 30 senior citizen clients
received a warm winter blanket and gift card as
well. It is always a special experience putting
smiles on all of the families’ faces during the Holiday
Season.
“With all of the community partnerships, donations, and collaborations, I find it really does take a village to raise a child”

This project was made possible by:

Girl Scout Troop 20577, Stolly Family, Walmart, Zion Lutheran Church
The committee began meeting in October to begin the
planning for this awesome event. The committee
members made multiple shopping trips and worked
hard to organize everything for the families and
children. We also had some volunteers join us for the
day. It garnered goodwill and citizenship among
members of the Lima Senior Girls Basketball teams
who assisted the parents with carrying all of the items
during the event. They were very excited to give of
their services and the parents were very appreciative.

Children have been enriched from Head Start’s unique approach, which is built on the premise that every child, despite prevailing circumstances at birth, possesses the ability to reach their full potential. The Head Start model at West Ohio CAP is built on evidence-based practices and strives to maintain adaptability by choosing the best teaching techniques to meet the needs of our local community. Our agency offers social, emotional and intellectual growth to prepare children for kindergarten readiness and success in life. In order to ensure every child has a healthy head start, the program allows families to have the
opportunity to receive:
High quality early learning opportunities
Education and developmental screenings
Individual development plans
Kindergarten Readiness
Family empowerment
Individualized family support
Community Resource referrals
Periodic screening diagnostic health
Head Start has a whole child and whole family approach model and focuses on helping the child’s
development in an array of areas, which especially makes a direct difference in enhancing social-emotional
development.
WOCAP’s Child Development Services encourages the healthy development of children from families
throughout Allen County. Early Head Start and Head Start programs are free to those who qualify for the
program. Families have the option of our Classroom Option or our Home Based Option. The Home Based
Option offers a teacher in your home 1 ½ hours per week to work one-on-one with the parent and child. West
Ohio CAP offers two family days per month to allow children and parents to participate in socialization
activities.
Provide your child(ren) a healthy head start by enrolling them in West Ohio CAP’s Head Start Program, where
they will receive an investment in their emotional, social, health, nutritional and psychological needs.

About
Martin
Luther
King
Jr.
King entered college at the age of 15, skipping grades 9
& 12; enrolled at Morehouse College in 1944
King received his doctorate in systematic theology from
Boston University in 1955
King’s “I Have A Dream” speech was not his first at the
Lincoln Memorial; King spoke 6 years prior on voting
rights
King was imprisoned nearly 30 times; he was arrested
for acts of civil disobedience and speeding
King narrowly escaped an assassination attempt a
decade before his death; stabbed in 1958 while in
Harlem signing copies of his new book
King’s last public speech foretold his death
Members of King’s family did not believe James Earl Ray
acted alone
King’s mother was also slain by a bullet; shot by a man in
the front pew while playing the organ at Sunday service
George Washington is the only other American to have
had his birthday observed as a national holiday
King’s birth name was Michael, not
Martin; was inspired by a German
Protestant Reformation leader
