Westbury high school had its first ever state qualifier for girls powerlifting! Chasity
Carter left Westbury ranked 16th in the state and when the dust cleared she had
moved into 8th! She squatted 265, benched 170, and deadlifted 290. 725 was her total
weight lifted. She won a total of 3 first place medals in local meet and one second
place medal at regionals. This is an amazing accomplishment for a sophomore! We
look forward to competing and moving closer to a championship next year!
On Thursday, April 2nd….HISD School Board Representative Wanda Adams, with Fox 26 News Anchor Isaiah
Carey, and 40 of Westbury High School Students participated in a forum on Race Relations.
Their national origins included Vietnam, Burmese, Eritrea, Honduras, Congo, Nepal , Mexico, Asia, India and
America. The scholars were separated by gender, and participated in a thirty minute segment dealing with
social and racial concerns at Westbury. The program aired on Fox 26 News on Thursday, April 9th at 9:30 pm
and again on Sunday, April 12th at 9:30 pm.
Westbury High School refugee students from Nepal, India, and Burma read their stories about their
experience as refugees and immigrants.

Curtis Guillory Structured Learning Class/
Autism Teacher, and Robert Bosie Skills for
Learning and Living Teacher at Westbury High
School, wanted their students to learn how plants
grow and develop. They took their classes to the
Westbury Community Garden to begin their
quest for a school garden.
When Mr. Guillory and Mr. Bosie decided they
wanted a garden on the school campus, they
contacted the Friends of Westbury High School
Foundation for funding. They submitted their
garden plans and received $857 to start a garden
on the campus of Westbury HS.
With a donation of plants and seeds from Home
