We’ve already looked at this rule…
To add ‘-ing’, ‘-ed’, ‘-er’, ‘-est’ or ‘–y’ to words ending in ‘-e’ with a consonant before it, remove the ‘-e’ before adding the suffix (ending).
If a word has only one syllable, ends with a consonant and has a single vowel before the consonant…
…then the consonant is doubled before the suffix (ending) is added.
