Announcements
Announcements will be streamed online for classes to view in the classrooms during the day. Leah
Thorpe, Jennifer Zamora, and the Assistant Principal will control what is placed in the announcements.
Please provide information you want included to either of them in a timely manner. All teachers are
expected to view and or share announcements with students daily.
Attendance
Teachers will take attendance each day on the computer using the Campus reporting system.
Attendance needs to be taken and submitted on campus no later than 9:00 am. Do not admit students
into your rooms after 8:35 am, unless they have checked in at the main office window and have a pass
with them. If they do not have a pass, please send them back to the window to obtain one.
Make sure current class lists are available for subs. Substitute teachers should not take attendance by
computer. Instead they should complete the Substitute teacher attendance, breakfast and lunch count
form. (see appendix for copy)
When a child is absent because of illness or other reasons, the parent/guardian must contact the school
office in order to arrange the excused absence. Parents or guardians who choose to have their child
absent from school for an extended period of time must make prior arrangements with teacher to
arrange school work for the student.
The amount of make-up work assigned is left to the discretion of each teacher but use good judgment
in the amount assigned. When assessments and tests are to be made up, the teacher should assign a
time for the make-up test as soon as the student returns to class. Example: Students should have at least
two days to make up the work for every day missed.

PBIS
Kennedy teachers and staff will continue implementing Positive Behavior Intervention Supports during
the 2017-2018 school year. Expectations for the year are to have morning meetings and utilize the
“Show me five” prompt to gain students attention in each grade and throughout the school.
PBIS provides a framework for all staff to use to encourage positive behavior throughout our building
and into the community. Teachers will begin the year by teaching expectations that have been put in
place. These expectations will be modeled by teachers and staff throughout the school day for the
entire school year.
The goal of PBIS is to create an effective and efficient environment that fits into what is already in our
elementary schools. PBIS is built on the idea that building positive relationships is much more
effective than focusing on negative consequences. To focus on building relationships we are asking all
staff to focus on specific character traits throughout the school year during your Morning Meeting
time. This may look different between grade levels and classes but emphasis on each trait is important.

Buddy Program
This is a wonderful opportunity in which an upper grade class may pair up with a lower grade class.
Teachers can plan joint activities during the school year. These partnerships have tremendous benefits
for all participants and the young kids feel a true kinship with their buddies and a sense of caring is
fostered among the older students.
Building Maintenance and Cleaning
For emergency custodial service, call extension 6624, the office and one of the custodians will be
notified or if your emergency needs immediate attention call Jeff’s cell phone #(320) 905-5689. To
request other services, please complete a green work request order in the office.
Cleaning Schedule
Cleaning schedules are scheduled to allow adequate cleaning for each school day. An every other day
cleaning schedule is currently in place. Trash is picked up each day. Please support the custodians by
placing the trash by the door for pickup. All chairs should be placed on top of tables or desks in order
for proper cleaning of the floors. Please help by picking up the large items that cannot be vacuumed
(larger than a dime). If your room needs immediate cleaning due to a spill, please notify the office and
the custodians will be called to your room, or one of the options listed in the first paragraph. If you
need to submit a work order, please stop in the office and complete a green form. Submit the form to
Jeff Pitt’s P.O. Box and he will place your request on a priority task list.

Pick up paper and other garbage on the floor or anything larger than a dime that will hinder
vacuuming at the end of each day.
Put all garbage cans by the hall door at the end of the day.
Put chairs up at the end of the day.
If you have electric pencil sharpeners empty them into the nearest garbage can.
Clean your whiteboards.
Occasionally dust counters and shelves.
Have students close their own hall lockers at the end of the day.
Shut off computers and smart boards at the end of the day.
Close all windows.
Shut off room lights when not in the room.
Lock room door.
For air quality concerns and heat efficiency, keep univent fans on and keep univents clear, in
front and on top. Univents have a filter with an antimicrobial agent that is changed during
summer cleaning, the first week of December and the first week of March each year.
Kinder Bathrooms:
Important Change: Please DO NOT store ANYTHING in the classroom bathrooms. The custodians
must clean these bathrooms properly and nothing should be stored in the bathrooms to create unsafe
conditions. Items that must be stored should be relocated-i.e. above room 102
Kennedy custodians split the building in half and clean classrooms every other day. As soon as they get a daily schedule the schedule, it will be posted in the office. The office staff can send you a cleaning schedule so you can help the custodians by having the students put their chairs on the desk/table your chairs on your scheduled cleaning day. Some of our cleaning is done by a crew from West Central Industries, so lock up valuables to eliminate any temptations for things to be taken. Notes from the custodians:
1. Do not use tape on the carpet (too difficult to shampoo the sticky tape residue), rather use Velcro provided by the custodians.
2. Whenever you have a spill on the floor (carpet or tile) in your room (or hall) call 6624 or the office and they will clean/shampoo the spill.
3. Close your windows before you go home each day. 4. Lock your classroom door when you leave each day. 5. If you come in the building after hours or on weekends, please check the outside entrance door since
many doors stick and don’t close all the way. 6. Turn off all lights (classrooms/offices and halls). 7. No household furniture in classrooms unless they have a fire rated tag on it (fire code violation). 8. Do not block exits as they are considered fire exits (OSHA and fire code violations). 9. Do not block univents, top or front, efficiency and proper air flow. 10. Each classroom has an instant hand sanitizer dispenser, if need refills call the custodians @ 6624. 11. During the school day the building is locked down at 8:30 am, so if you leave the building do not prop
open outside doors (district safety issue).
7 12. Teacher cards for the card reader work only between the hours of 6:00 am to 10:50 pm. 13. The intruder alarm arms at 11:15 pm and disarms at 5:25 am 7 days per week, 365/366 days per year. 14. For teacher requests from the custodians use the green “Maintenance Work Order” found in the main
office or e-mail Jeff or call 6624. 15. Do not block fire extinguishers (fire code violation). 16. Do not block electrical panels (fire code violation). 17. Do not use household cleaners or disinfectants unless accompanied by a Safety Data Sheet (OSHA
violation)
Building Security
In an effort to promote and maintain building safety, the school doors are closed and secured
throughout the school day and an intercom/buzzer system will be used to allow visitors in. In addition,
all visitors are required to report to the main office immediately upon entering the building and receive
a visitor’s badge. All staff is required to wear their school ID badge during their working hours each
day. Parents are asked to come to the office to sign their children out of the building if they leaving
before the close of the school day. Children are released only to legal parents or guardians.
Grandparents, friends, or other relatives must have written permission from the parent to pick up
children from school. If there are custody issues within the family, a court order is required to identify
parental rights and access to the child.
You have access to the building from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM using your key cards Monday through
Sunday. If you enter the building before 6:00 AM or are in the building past 10:50 PM you will set off
the alarms and be moved to the bottom of Jeff’s “favorite staff members” list
Cardinal Kids
Cardinal Kids is a pre-school program for 20 students housed at Kennedy in room 105 ext 6630.
Cardinal Place
Cardinal Place is a child care, fee-based program through Community Education and is available
before school, after school, and during non-school days (conferences, in-service days, snow days, and
summer). Parents are asked to call Jenna at Cardinal Place at 214-6680 for more information. Child
care is available from 6:30AM until school begins and after school until 6:00PM.
Cell Phone Use
Cell phones should only be used before school, after school, during prep time, and during your lunch
break. Even during these allowed times to use cell phones, do not be walking the hallways while
using/talking on your phone.
Class Records
All teachers should keep their records as complete and neat as possible. The marks in the record book
or on a computer print-out should be such that they can be easily explained to a student or parent.
Records for each quarter will need to be turned in to the office at the end of the school year.
8
Class Placement Procedures
At the end of the school year, staff is asked to help make class placement decisions to ensure balanced
classrooms with consideration of class size, gender, ethnicity, and other student needs. The following
schedule is planned:
Class placement is a part of the process of supporting students, staff, and parents. For students, we
want to place each child with a teacher who will provide the right environment based on their
individual and unique needs. For staff, we strive to provide balance in each classroom-gender,
ethnicity, special learner needs, and many other considerations such as behavior, peer relations, and
teacher requests.
With consultation from Special Education staff, ELL, Title I, Support Staff and the consideration of
teacher requests, class lists for next year will be set up by building administration.
Classroom Parties/Birthdays
The school district prohibits serving food to students which was prepared at home. Prepackaged
products are acceptable for parties or treats. It is everyone’s responsibility to keep Kennedy clean.
Please help out by taking care of spills and general cleanup in your room. Our District Wellness policy
encourages all of us to choose healthy foods and beverages to serve to our students. If parents deliver
flowers or balloons to school for their child, these items will be kept in the office until the end of the
day as to not cause a distraction to the other children and also to be sensitive to possible allergies.
Dress
While there is not a specific dress code for staff, please be mindful that we are professionals so let’s be
sure to dress in professional attire. It has become common to wear cardinal red/white colors on
Fridays. More professional looking attire is expected on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and
Thursdays.
End of School Year
In an effort to maximize the time for student learning and maintain a safe environment, the regular
student schedule will be maintained up to the last week of school. Exceptions are made for special
recognition assemblies, field days, and field trips. It is important to stay focused on instruction and
keep disruptions to the schedule limited.
Facilities
Before and after school reservations are made with Ryan Harper at Community Ed/Rec (8492 x 6327).
Field Day
Field Day is a common activity in elementary schools. Kennedy offers Field Day for 1st grade-5
th
grade. Students look forward to field day for the fun and the school spirit that it creates. About 2 hours
are designated for each grade during the school day and parents, family, and staff are invited to come
and cheer on the participants. This event is usually held at the end of May. Even though the phy.ed
staff organizes and runs the field day events, it is expected that classroom teachers be on the field
interacting with students and families.
9
Field Trips
1. Each classroom will be allowed 3 field trips per school year. These trips must be purposeful
and aligned with the Minnesota State Teaching Standards and be spread out over the entire
school year. Only two grade levels will be allowed out of the building on any given day.
2. Submit field trip requests to the Assistant Principal as early as possible. Check the online
Kennedy calendar for conflicting dates.
3. Arrange for buses, tickets, and adequate number of chaperones (paraprofessionals, parents, etc.)
4. Completed and approved lunch request forms must be turned in to the kitchen staff at least
four weeks in advance if students will not be eating lunch at school or if you need bag lunches
for students.
5. Send home and collect the school Parent/Guardian Permission Slip. No student will be
permitted to leave school without authorized permission. Teachers must make alternative
arrangements for students not attending the field trip.
6. If a student is in jeopardy of not going, make contact with the family well in advance.
Administration will need to approve any student not attending a field trip for behavior reasons,
this will only happen in limited and severe cases.
Grades
Parents of students who are receiving grades of a D or F must be contacted by the classroom teacher
prior to final grades going home. We want the students and parents to have the chance to correct the
problem before the final grading periods.
Homework
Any homework assigned should be an extension of learning that occurred in the classroom.
Recommendations would be for no more than 10 minutes of homework per student grade (1st Grade =
10 minutes; 2nd
Grade = 20 minutes, etc.) AND this time would include any reading time assigned.
Homework must be something that the individual student can successfully accomplish/complete on
their own and without the use of technology. Reading would be a great example of this type of
homework.
Remember to encourage reading every night, especially if there’s no homework.
Locker Use
School lockers are the property of the school district. Inspection of the lockers may be conducted by
school authorities for any reason, any time, without notice, without student consent, and without a
search warrant. Personal possessions of students within a locker may be searched only when school
authorities have a reasonable suspicion that the search will uncover evidence of a violation of law or
school rules.
Lunch Times, Supervision and Procedure
Classroom teachers will escort their class to the recess/lunch drop off each day. Please arrive on time
at the designated time to allow kitchen and supervision staff time to clear out the lunchroom and make
preparations for the next lunch
10
Breakfast is free for all students. Lunch costs are $1.95 for students and $3.60 for adults. Milk costs
$.30. Students may deposit lunch money in the office each morning before 8:30 am. Money deposited
before 8:30 am. will be added to the students account in time for that day’s lunch.
*See the schedule map of the lunchroom and lunch/recess schedule in the appendix.
Mail Boxes
Each staff member is assigned a mailbox in the office. Please find a couple of different times during
the day such as before school, after lunch, and again before leaving for the day to check your mail.
Important notes are often left in your box throughout the day.
Media Center
We maintain a rich collection of print and non-print materials for the use of staff and students. A link
to the online catalog can be accessed through the Kennedy website from anywhere with internet
access. Policies and expectations for students as well as the Media center schedule is located on the
Media Center website. Useful websites links for research and Bookflix access are also found there.
We also provide audio visual services to the school. We check out smart board clickers, cameras,
projectors and screens, and DVD and VCR players on a cart as well as one of the iPad carts.
The book room located in the media center is where you will find GR, TRS, RWW and alphabet book
collections. The theme sets which match the Houghton Mifflin series, MAG theme sets, author sets
and AV kits (cassettes) are in the “study corner” shelves. You will also find Mailbox magazines in this
area at this time. We keep the AV/VHS and DVD collection and reader’s theater in the library work
room.
There is no limit on what staff can check out. We ask that you keep track of items checked out in your
name and return them in a timely manner when done with them. Please make sure that the kits and
theme sets are returned in their entirety. However, we try hard to keep our records up to date and
appreciate knowing when an item has gone missing.
Once you have located the items you wish to check out you can leave them on the desk with your
name. We will check them out to you and place them on the cart by the library doors for you to pick
up. Please let us know if you need help locating a resource-we are here to help

Open House
Kennedy will conduct an Open House on Wednesday, August 30th from 5:00 – 6:30 PM for students
and parents to visit classrooms and meet their child’s teachers. Please arrive early for the start of the
open house as this is an incredibly important event for our students and makes a huge first impression
on our families.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher conferences are conducted twice a year for all students. These conferences will be
conducted:
October 12, 2017 from 3:30 – 7:30 PM
October 17, 2017 from 3:30 – 8:30 PM
October 18, 2017 from 7:30 AM - 12:30 PM
February 13, 2018 from 3:30 - 7:30 PM
February 15, 2018 from 3:30 - 8:30 PM
February 16, 2018 from 7:30 AM - 12:30 PM
With knowing these dates and times well in advance, you need to make every effort to be here on all
six of these days. When teachers are gone and have to reschedule with families for another night, it is
an inconvenience for our parents who have multiple siblings and would have to schedule a second
night to come back to school. If you know you absolutely cannot attend one of the conference dates
listed and will have to reschedule, you need to let the Principal know as soon as possible.
Parent Portal
Parent Portal is an internet based home-to-school communication tool that is available when Kennedy
teachers use Campus Grade Book. Parents will have access to their child’s school information
including attendance, grades, and assignments through a password protected web based system.
Parking
Staff members are expected to park in either the south or west parking lots. Every effort should be
made to not park on the streets around Kennedy to help promote student safety.
12
PTSA
Our parent involvement group is called Kennedy PTSA (Parent-Teacher-School-Association).
Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 6:00 PM. Staff representatives are encouraged
to attend the monthly meetings and act as liaisons between PTSA and Kennedy staff. A parent
volunteer program is promoted to further encourage parent involvement in our school and enhance the
educational program.
PTSA Staff Funds Requests
Each request for funds needs to be submitted by filling out a “Request for PTSA Funds” form after
approval is received from the administration. This form is available on the Kennedy website in the
PTSA folder. This is meant for all types of requests (including individual classroom). The PTSA
members feel this form contributes to fiscal accountability for PTSA. Any applications should be
placed in the PTSA PO Box located in the office area.
Purchase Orders
Purchase orders are available from Traci in the office. We no longer accept receipts. Any non-
consumable materials belong to Kennedy and should remain in the room if the teacher leaves the
building for any reason.
Recess Supervision and Procedures
Recess Supervision Team: Pam L., Jennifer M., Deb R., and Lydia O.
Each supervisor will carry a walkie-talkie to ensure proper supervision of the recess area and
communicate to each other or the office if needed. If a student needs medical attention, the recess
supervisor will communicate to one of the nurses and request assistance as needed. After recess
Supervisors will lead the students through the front/main doors down the hall to the Cafeteria.
Classroom teachers are asked to walk students to either the southeast doors (music area) or directly to
the cafeteria when taking their class to recess/lunch. Kinder Teachers may use the SW Kinder doors.
All classroom teachers are asked to greet their students in either the Cafeteria at the end of the lunch
period or in the main entrance doors hallway if they are returning from recess. It is imperative that
students be picked up on time and from the proper location. If you drop off at recess, you will pick up
from cafeteria and vice versa. The breakdown for classes going to recess or lunch first is as follows:
Grade Lunch 1st Recess 1st
Kindergarten Damhof, Pehrson, Smith Ashton, Davidson, Hulscher, Voss
Grade 1 Gradin, Gustafson, Lindblad, Cole Gratton, Marotte , Roehl, Tschetter
Grade 2 DeBoer, Hardebeck, C. Miller Saunders, Solon, Aamodt
Grade 3 Biddick, Donner, Kamstra Dunlavy, Lippert, Lorenson
Grade 4 Bents, Carlson, Orth Molenaar, Kotzenmacher, Voller
Grade 5 Eckhoff, Lager, Mularky Myers, Weiler, M. Miller
Unfortunately sometimes the weather does not cooperate with our recess plans and therefore we will
have days that recess will need to be called indoors. Please prepare your students for what you expect
of them for an indoor recess day (which means the students will be staying in the classroom
(supervised) for recess. Students should know which activities, games, and resources they are allowed
to play with.
13
Report Cards
All end of quarter grade reports will be generated from information entered by teachers on Campus.
Teachers are encouraged to include a comprehensive list of comments addressing all areas of learning
and student progress. Teachers will be advised of dates that grades need to be exported in Campus.
End of quarter reports will be sent home with students approximately one week after the end of the
marking period. End of the year grade reports are sent home with students on the last day of school.
Morning Procedure and Supervision
On the first day of school, students will report directly to their classroom. Beginning on day 2, students
will report to their morning station. Please share and show this location to your students on the first
day of school while modeling what proper behavior looks like for our breakfast period.
For the first two weeks of school, teachers are asked to report to their classroom breakfast area at 8:10
am to supervise/interact and build relationships with their students. After the first two weeks (once
collaborative groups start meeting), classroom teachers will pick up their students at 8:25 am and lead
them to their classrooms. Allied, EL, and Science teachers will assist in the big gym, stage, and
cafeteria area from 8:10-8:25 am until the classroom teachers arrive.

Upstairs Teachers:
Grade level teachers can divide duties so that three or four teachers walk bus kids (etc...) down the fifth
grade stairs and all the way out to their buses. One or two teachers will walk kids the opposite direction
to the back parent pick-up and one will stay in the hallway to make sure students don’t enter classrooms
or mess around.
All bus riders, Cardinal Place, lobby pick-up, and kinder pick-up siblings need to make two lines in the
hallway and go down the fifth grade stairs.
o Cardinal Place and kinder siblings go to the right with one of the grade level teachers.
o All other grade level teachers will walk students all way outside to their individual buses.
8th Street parent pick-up students need to make one line going down the middle of the hallway and out
the third grade stairs/doors.
o These students need to be walked out by a classroom teacher.
Older siblings need to wait against the office wall for younger siblings.
Downstairs Teachers:
All students should line up and be leaving at 3:20
o Kinder teachers should be moving by 3:13
o First grade teachers, please have bus students ready to be moving by 3:15
o Second and Third grades should be moving at 3:17
o Fourth and Fifth grade teachers should be moving at 3:20
Teachers need to escort and supervise students all the way out to their buses
***There is no shuttle bus for the 2017-18 school year!
Lakeland students and Kennedy students that will be on Palmer Buses will be walked down to the
Theatre at 3:20 pm. Palmer buses are scheduled to arrive at 3:35 pm, load, and leave at 3:45 pm from
the bus loop. Lakeland and Kennedy’s Cultural Liaisons will be primary supervision for this group of
students and will escort them out to and ensure they are loaded on the buses safely.
Grade level teams will need to work together to safely get students out of the building for the day.
Please follow the students outside when walking them to their appropriate place (busing, pick-up,
Cardinal Place, etc.). Bus students need to be walked all the way out and be loaded on the buses.
Please do not stop to visit with parents until you have completed the delivery of your students. This
will help relieve some of the congestion by the main entrance/office area.
After School Supervision:
*If students are not picked up by 3:30 bring them to the main office.

Staff Calendar
A staff Calendar will be maintained through Google Docs Calendar’s. Assistant Principal will input
information regularly onto the calendar as needed. Refer to the calendar for upcoming events,
meetings, procedures, requirements, and other school information. Teachers may want to print off a
copy to keep at their desk each week.
Staff Development Days – Late Starts (LS) and Early Outs (EO)
November 8 (LS), December 6 (LS), February 7 (LS), and May 4 (EO).
Please see appendix for full schedule.
Staff Meetings
Staff meetings will be held on the third Monday of each month, and / or scheduled as needed. The
schedule for staff meetings is listed in the “master calendar”.
Staff Workdays and Obligations
The expectation on workdays is that teachers are on duty, and accessible from 7:30 am. 3:30 pm. If
teachers are absent and do not report to work on a workday (e.g. sick leave, personal day, etc), it will
be reported as a full day absence. Prep time is part of the teacher workday and not personal time. If
teachers leave the building during the day, they must check out with the office and leave a phone
number in the office of where they can be reached.
At Kennedy, we highly value time to work together and collaborate as colleagues. Time is set aside
from 7:30 – 8:15 am in order to accomplish this.
Student Supply Lists
Student supply lists are to be updated by grade levels at the end of every year. Those updates are to be
turned in to the Kennedy secretaries. The lists will be updated and available on the school district’s
website for the following school year (www.willmar.k12.mn.us). See Appendix

To arrange for a sub, enter the absence into Aesop using the link on the district website. Subs will be
paid using the information from Aesop so it is important absences are entered into the system. If you
need an hourly sub, you need to meet with the office staff to ensure a sub is secured and entered. It is
recommended that if you take time off from your scheduled contract, use ½ days or full days to
increase the probability of securing a sub for your position. Hourly absences typically go unfilled and
in the interest of providing the appropriate education for all students each day-it is recommended to use
the ½ day or full day option. ** Changes, Bety will cover**
Substitute Teacher Folder
Each staff member will be asked to set up a sub folder during the first week of school. The folder will
be used to provide school and class information for subs working at Kennedy. It is advised to check the
folder frequently to keep the contents current. Do not give a sub your ID numbers for using the
computer to take attendance. Please use the recommended form that is available in the appendix to
report absences and lunch counts for the day.
Child Find – (Formerly SST – Student Success Team)
Our CF/SST team is a problem-solving team designed to assist teachers in developing intervention
strategies that help students who, for any reason, are experiencing difficulty at school. CF/SST serves
as a vehicle to develop instructional strategies or other strategies to meet student needs through
collaborative planning and discussing. CF/SST will meet weekly. If you have a student you would like
to bring to CF/SST, please contact the assistant principal. A Documented Intervention (D.I.) is a pre-
referral process consisting of the following requirements:
1. Designed by the CF/SST and the regular education teacher
2. Implementation by the regular education staff
3. Systematic data collection for at least 2-3 weeks
4. Evaluation for change and success of the intervention
5. Recording of all the necessary information on the D.I. form
Targeted Services
After school Targeted Services programming is available to support student learning and encourage
positive school involvement. These are funding based programs that target students identified as at-
risk-academically. If you are involved with a targeted services program, you will be asked to help keep
accurate daily attendance for accountability and funding purposes.
Technology Use
School District Policy outlines acceptable use of computers and communications equipment for all
employees and students. Use of the District’s system and equipment is a privilege, not a right. All users
shall be in compliance with the District’s policies and regulations and all applicable laws. The
complete policy is available in the school office or on the District website under Policy #524.
Visitors at School
For the safety of all students, all visitors must report to the office prior to visiting any part of the school
building. Visitors will be asked to sign in and receive a visitors badge or sticker while they are in
school and check out with office when leaving. If you see someone in the building that is not a WPS
employee, ask them if they need any help and direct them to the office to receive a badge.
Year-End Check-Out
18
Near the end of the school year, teachers will be given a check-out form to use as a guide to complete
essential tasks and to communicate needs that must be taken care of during the summer. You also will
be asked to turn in your grade book at the end of the year. Teachers may need to check out with
various staff about certain items on the list.
Room Painting
The following colors are available for you to choose from if your room is scheduled for painting.
Please contact Jeff Pitt and make your choices known to him as he will schedule the painting.

School Bus Rules
Busing is provided to and from school for eligible students living one mile or more from the school attendance. It is necessary to have certain rules in order to protect the welfare of each child.
1. Only students assigned to the bus by school authorities may be transported 2. Students will be allowed to get off the bus only at their home, childcare provider, or school. The only
exception to this would be with written permission or notification from the student’s parent, guardian, or school district.
3. At the bus stop, students are expected to board the bus only at assigned pick-up points, stay back from curb until bus has stopped completely and the 8 way system is on-red lights and stop sign.
4. While on the bus, students will follow bus rules such as following the directions of the driver, sit in your seat facing forward, talk quietly and use appropriate language, keep your arms, legs, and belongings to yourself, no fighting, harassing, or horseplay, do not throw any object, no eating, drinking, smoking or use of tobacco or drugs, do not bring any weapon or dangerous objects on the bus, do not damage the school bus, keep all parts of your body inside the bus, bus seats are to be shared, no portable radios on the bus unless using headphones, no gang related behavior
5. When unloading, students exit the doorway and move directly away from the bus. If crossing the road is necessary, walk at least 10 feet in front of the bus. Cross when the driver gives the signal. Make sure you can see the bus driver and the driver can see you. Always watch for traffic to know it is safe to cross. Continue to watch for traffic while crossing. A sounding of a horn is usually a signal of danger.
6. The bus company will issue an incident report when unacceptable behavior occurs. Administration will communicate with the bus company and gather the necessary information and determine consequences for unacceptable bus behavior. Penalties for breaking bus rules may be enforced as follows:
a. First Offense-Letter home/Warning and/or suspension b. Second Offense-Call and letter home/3 day suspension from riding the bus c. Third Offense-Call and letter home/5 day suspension from riding the bus d. Fourth Offense-10 day suspension from riding the bus, meeting with parent and School Bus
