1.2 Scope
The scope of this document is to provide an insight into the use of an slow speed weigh in
motion (SSWIM) based automatic traffic counter and classifier(ATCC) . After reading this
document the end user will be enabled with adequate knowledge for working on the system
to make the best optimized usage of it.
Deployed hardware and software shall provide means for regulating and measuring
incoming traffic flow through equipment deployed in the field.
As we know, basically gathering of the information's from the traffic is accomplished with
Automatic Traffic Counter and Classifier (ATCC) as a traffic counter and classifier. Our
software application helps to integrate the WIM application with ATCC application so that
the incoming vehicle can be classified through axle counting and weight measuring.
Deployed equipment is connected with Central Control Room (CCR) in Ethernet
Redundant Ring Network. Control centre enables integration of various subsystems in one
point.
This document is intended for both the end users and the developers of the system and will
be proposed to the Highway Projects for its approval.

It gives the output of axle weight, time stamp between the axles, and count of vehicle
with serial no after vehicle separation.

Raw data shown in the HyperTerminal is stored in the ATCC Server via communication
port.
The collected raw data is shown in the ATCC live view application with the column
heads like Vehicle count, Classification, Weight, Date and Time Stamp.
The classification of the vehicle is done by the software with respect to following chart:

4.1 Weigh in Motion
Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) system is a system used to measure the highly accurate
weighing data of vehicles running from the lanes essential for traffic monitoring, weight
enforcement as well as for pavement management.
4.1.1 Introduction
In order to monitor the whole of the traffic, the WIM devices are fixed installed into the
pavement and connected with the data acquisition and collection instruments. The data
can be sending online or in packages to the departments requiring such data.

4.1.3 Functionality
WIM gives its own class as classified according to weight of the vehicle. If Class given
by WIM is greater than Class given by Toll Collector, then this vehicle {weigh (WIM
Class- TC Class)} is called Overweighed Vehicle and this has to pay by User.
a)
First, Vehicle enters at lane.
b) The weigh-in-motion (WIM) system installed to identify the gross weight of the
vehicle to charge the toll based on weight.
c) Vehicle comes at WIM Platform
d) WIM Controller provides weight of the vehicle and it will shown at WIM
Indicator.
e) Now, TC Validates the weight given by WIM Controller at Lane Controller
f)
Lane controller validates and give WIM Class accordingly Weight measured.
g) Lane module binds TC and WIM Class and gives to WIM Validator.
h) User has to pay the overloaded amount as per weight of the vehicle.
i) After transaction, Vehicle cross from the Lane.
