Pastor Ama’s sermon this Sunday is entitled Ministry or Administration?. The scripture verses she
is using are as follows:
Corinthians 3: 1-6
Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you
or from you?
You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts,
known and read by everyone.
You show that you are a letter from Christ,
the result of our ministry,
written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God,
not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
Such confidence we have through Christ before God.
Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves,
but our competence comes from God.
He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—
not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
Luke 4: 14-21.
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him
spread through the whole countryside. He was teaching in their
synagogues, and everyone praised him. He went to Nazareth, where he
had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the
synagogue, as was his custom.
He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to
him.
Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat
down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.
He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your
hearing.”
Hello,
Library Renovation Update
The project manager for the library renovation came by last week to introduce himself
and his company, Nova Partners, Inc. His name is Marc Slocum and he let me know that the work will start on Monday, August 24th. That will be the date that the library
parking lot will be fenced off for the duration of the project. Just something to keep in mind when you come to church.
If you, or someone you know, has a pastoral need,
please call Rev. Dorothy Straks at 510-552-4641.
Dorothy is an ordained clergy with the United Methodist Church.
She will be covering Congregational Care
during the interim period.
HURRY, TICKETS ARE SELLING OUT FAST!
Just a reminder that this Saturday, 8/15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
is a joint clean-up/work day with Woodside Parents Nursery
School. If you have some time to give that day come and
help spruce up the campus and meet some of the nursery
school families. Meeting members of our church might open
up a mutual bond between the church and school
communities. So put on your work clothes and help out.
Have a great week and see you in church!
