October is Economic and Community Development Month
Throughout the October month the Rotarians focus their
activities on Economic and Community Development to
promote growth and development of local economies to
eradicate poverty, uplifting and empowering women,
creating global partnerships for ensuring environmental
sustainable development as goven in the UN Millennium
Development Goals (MDG).
According to the 2014 UN report, extreme poverty has been
reduced by half, women’s status in the labor market is
improving, the debt burden on developing countries is
stable and the use of technology continues to grow with
three billion people online and seven billion mobile users.
In these development activities worldwide the Rotarians
and Rotary Clubs all around the world have made significant
contributions through multi-sectoral programs that include
healthcare and sanitation, basic education, microcredit for
income and job creation, basic education and literacy,
disease prevention including eradication of polio from the
world and promoting world peace
As the UN announces their mew Sustainable Development
Goals (SDG), realizing that although progress has been
made, the work is not yet over. We in Rotary should focus
on promoting sustainable economic growth in our
community and achieve employment and decent work for
all as per the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2015.
The Rotary Club of Dhaka has a long tradition of promoting
sustainable growth through various service projects and
programs in the last eight decades. With the signing of the
recent MOU with the National Institute of Cancer Research
and Hospital (NICRH) for histopathological testing of
suspected breast Cancer patients, RCD will be help offer
quality life to poor women. Developing it into a signature
project of the Club will greatly uplift the image of the Club
in the society in keeping with the Rotary theme of ‘BE A
GIFT TO THE WORLD

Rtn PE S M Anwar Hossain MPHF informed the
members about the Breast Cancer Awareness month
and also informed that a Mega Press Conference will
be held in Press Club on October 10th
, 2015, which is
observed as the Breast Awareness Day. Eighteen
different organizations along with the Rotary Club of
Dhaka and National Institute of Cancer Research &
Hospital (NICRH) will be present on that day. He
further informed that there will be an Awareness
Campaign in Old Dhaka City on October 30th
, 2015,
and the spots for the campaign are yet to be
confirmed. Tee shirts to be worn on October 30th
,
2015 will be sponsored by the Rotary Club of Dhaka
and posters will also be sponsored by the Club.
Rtn PP Rafiqul Islam Rowly PHF apprised the
members about the progress of the “Hygiene Kits for
Girls Project”. He informed that due to the current
political and security situation of our country, the
Australian Team has cancelled their Trip. However
Rtn PP Rafiqul Islam Rowly PHF also informed that
they are likely to come around March next year if
situation improves.
Rtn IPP Shaheed Siddique PHF gave a summary of
the SKD project. He informed that 6030 sleeping Kits
will be distributed this year which will be costing
about Tk. 1 Crore 50 Lac. He also informed that most
of the items are in store and packaging is continuing
and they are expecting to finish the packaging within
the end of October 2015.
Rtn Lt Col (Retd) Syed Quamruzzaman, BGBM RFSM
introduced the Guest Speaker Rtn Maj Gen Jiban
Kanai Das (retd) to the members and informed that
he was and is still one of the finest sober Gentleman
and kind officers of Bangladesh Army.
The Guest Speaker in his presentation has elabor-
ately discussed about the Dementia situation in
Bangladesh and also the overall situation in the
world. He extensively talked about how helpless a
person becomes if caught by this disease. He also
reiterated the importance of the close family
members and friends to behave normally with the
affected person and not to let him feel left out.

The Rotary Club of Dhaka met on Tuesday, October
6, 2015 for their weekly meeting. The Club President
Rtn Md Nasimul Hoq Majumder PHF called the
meeting to order at 05.30 pm. Invocation was led by
Rtn IPP Shaheed Siddique PHF. Birthday and
Wedding Anniversary greetings were read out by Rtn
PP Sultan-ul-Abedine Molla PHF.
The President welcomed the following Guests in the
Regular Weekly Meeting of Rotary Club of Dhaka:
1) Rtn MM Iqbal Choudhury, RC of Moulovibazar.
2) Rtn S Richards, RC of Naples Bay, Florida, United
States of America (USA) and also an associate
member of Rotary Club of Darwin, Australia.
3) Ex Rtn Engr. Salim.
4) Ms. Shaela Zaman, Guest of Rtn DGN Arif PHF.
5) Mr. Ahmed Kabir, Guest of Rtn Dr. Niaz Abdur
Rahman PHF, B, MD.
The President invited the Guest Speaker Rtn Maj
Gen Jiban Kanai Das (retd), Head of Operation, Sir
William Beveridge Foundation Bangladesh to the
head table. The President further made announce-
ments of the following projects:
1) SEE Project: The 2nd SEE Project Camp was held
on October 3, 2015 in T&T Adarshaw Girls High
School, Mohakhali, Dhaka. A total number of 400
students were screened and out of which 60
students were given treatment. The 3rd
SEE
Camp will be held on next month of this year.
2) Tube well Project: 12 tube wells were installed in
Rowmari.
The President mentioned that the details of the
projects are printed in the Bulletin.

Rafiqul Islam Rowly PHF which were brilliantly answered by
the Guest Speaker. Rtn PP Capt Md Khaliquzzaman PHF
thanked Rtn Maj Gen Jiban Kanai Das (retd) for his precious
speech on Dementia situation in Bangladesh and called him
the finest Army Personnel he has ever come across.
Formal vote of thanks was offered by Rtn M Rezaur Razzak
RFSM. And a token of appreciation in the form of memento
was presented to the Guest Speaker by Rtn PP Samiul Ahsan
PHF, B.

Club of Dhaka. Minutes of the previous meeting were
unanimously passed by the members. The Club Secretary Rtn
Barrister Shafayat Ullah PHF announced the date of the next
weekly club meeting to be held on Tuesday, 13th
October,
2015 at Kurmitola Golf Club, Dhaka at 07.00 pm onwards
which will be followed by Eid Re-Union and Family Get
Together with fellowship dinner. There being no other
important point to discuss the President adjourned the
meeting.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Month is
observed across the world every October to
increase attention and support for the
awareness, early detection and treatment
as well as palliative care for the disease.
The mega-press conference was held on the
occasion of the World Breast Cancer Aware-
ness Day at the VIP Room of the Press Club on
10 October, at 11 am.

along with over 150 journalists and volunteers
from Healthcare sector, NGOs, etc. The
participants highlighted the necessaity of
creating awareness for early detection of
breast cancer which can help save hindreds of
lives as over 8000 people die of breast cancer
every year in Bangladesh.
