{Editor’s note: Sophie (2)
arrived as a result of her
owners moving. We knew
she would not stay with us
for long and we were
correct. Ten days later,
she went home with her
new family. According to
her family, she is doing
quite well – we’ve had
two reports from them.}
We have had a great
twenty-four hours with
Sophie. She seems to be
Happy Tails – Sophie (2)
settling in just fine. She is
such a love bug!
One month later and
Sophie is still doing
great. We've had fun
exploring the
neighborhood on our
walks. She has been
sleeping well.
We've been giving
Sophie lots of love and
she lets us know when
she needs more.
{P.S. Based on the
photo below, Sophia
looks very, very
comfortable on that
sofa!}.
{Editor’s note: Charlie is a
wonderful older boy. The
couple who transported
him to AGPR told us he
was quite the gentleman.
And that he was.
When Charlie came to
AGPR in early May, we
were told he was 5 ½
years old. The “older”
dogs are harder to
place…many people
prefer a younger dog.
Happy Tails – Charlie
Charlie proved us wrong!
He was adopted in less
than two months and
currently has a wonderful
playmate}.
We thought you might
like to see a picture of a
happy Charlie awaiting
a tummy rub!
He weighed in at a
healthy 109 pounds at his
vet check-up last week
and is enjoying life,
bounding around and
relishing his guardianship
of the place.

Happy Tails – Ranger
{Editor’s note: Zumba
was adopted the end of
May 2015…her new
family sent us an update
this summer}. Zumba is
doing great and we are
so happy to have her as
part of our family. She
was afraid of our ceiling
fans when we first got her,
but we worked through
her fears and now she
hangs out in every room
Happy Tails - Zumba
in our house. She still
stares down a ceiling
fan every once in a
while, but she's tough.
Zumba has settled in
nicely and loves to
hang on our front porch
with us. Her first
camping trip was in July
and she did pretty well
at the campground
and in the trailer.
Zumba met lots of dogs
and people and was
gentle with all of them.
She has such a gentle
way about her, she just
"chills" all the time.
Thank you again for
making the adoption
process so easy and for
helping us to pick out
the right dog for our
family!
{Editor’s note: Ranger
was adopted in August.
His family sent us this
thank you after they
arrived home.}
Our drive home was as
good as it could go. The
dogs were great…you
didn't even know Ranger
was there except when
he would pop his head
up and ask if we were
home yet.
Ranger is a complete
gentleman and seems to
like it here in his new
home already. He
enjoyed a nice bath last
night and was very
patient with me.
We showed him our
chickens and goats and
he didn't show any
aggression or much
interest at all.
So far Ranger has
enjoyed watching our
daily routine and seems
mesmerized by me
unloading the
dishwasher...how cute!
Thank you for our new
addition, we just love
him already!

happy to have been adopted
together.
{Editor’s note: “Silly”
Millie got her nickname
because of her amusing
antics while at the
kennel. She would jump
up and down with
excitement whenever
visitors would arrive in
hopes that she would
get the first walk. Millie
was in a loving foster
home before being
adopted this summer.
Her new owner loves her
dearly and shares her
stories with us}.
So proud of my Millie, she
hit an amazing milestone
a couple weeks after
joining us. I introduced
her to the chickens and
she is protecting them
so amazingly. I knew
my other Pyr, Dozer, was
chicken friendly but
wasn't sure of Millie.
Millie did great!
The other day, I
returned home and
found Millie and Dozer
in full alert, chasing
away a hawk. What a
pair! By working Millie, I
have given her a
purpose and she has
become much calmer
in the house. She no
longer paces and barks
all day long. And
working is a natural for
her - she follows Dozer’s
lead and wants to learn. I
just am so happy and love
my Millie so much.

{Editor’s note: Simba joined
AGPR the end of January and
was adopted mid-May. This is a
bit tardy…my apologies to
Simba’s owners!}
We can't thank you enough for
the whole adoption process--
and for bringing us to Simba! He
is such a wonderful addition to
our family. I probably spoil him
too much and he has become a
bit of a (BIG) lap dog. When we
first got him, he was a bit timid of
couches and sleeping on pillow
beds. However, now he thinks
that the couch is his personal
throne and back scratcher! Our
parrot, Feathers, was also rather
curious and timid of Simba in the
first couple of weeks. Now
Feathers tries to land on the floor
to get his own attention during
Happy Tails - Simba
Simba's brushing time. We are
definitely lucky that you
suggested such a laid back Pyr
for our parrot! If only Feathers
could learn a little something
from Simba…
The pictures I am sending are
from Simba's birthday party. He
got to eat doggie ice cream
and hang out with his best pal,
Sandie the Goldendoodle. He
loves to run, take never-ending
walks and try to eat whatever
everyone else is eating. Overall,
we LOVE him very much and it's
hard to remember how we
survived without him!!
New Additions – We Have Puppies
{Editor’s note: Sam was
adopted in 2007 and was
formerly known as Bonnie
Blue} Sam is just over nine years
old now and loves going for
walks every day and
sleeping. She had to have
double knee surgery back in
2010 (bilateral tibial tuberosity
advancement), but fully
recovered and has been an
incredible dog since the day we
got her.
Happy Tails - Sam
{Editor’s note: Belle (formerly
known as Stella) was with AGPR
for three months and stole all of
our hearts. Every time she
looked into our eyes, you could
feel her love and trust. } Belle
loves going to tennis with us -
she's now a court dog. And
we’ve recently been taking her
for swimming lessons. She is just
so adorable!
Happy Tails - Belle
{Editor’s note: Jack was
adopted from AGPR in early
2014.} We have had Jack for
over a year and a half and he
continues to be a happy dog.
We love Jack! Jack loves to
travel in the car and recently
spent a week in New Hampshire.

A special Thank You to the
new Petco in Ashland, VA.
They have welcomed us with
open arms and have been
generous with their time and
donations. Since the store
opened earlier this year,
Petco has been sponsoring
AGPR adoption events on
the second Saturday of the
month. The staff has been
eager to help with any set up
need we have and do their
best to spoil the Pyrs. Many
thanks for the recent
donation of shampoos for our
upcoming Spa Day and for
the yummy treats and
goodies for the dogs. And
we can’t forget the dog
house…one of our rescues,
Banjo, immediately claimed it
for his own.
Thank You Petco!

How you can help…
Volunteer Time
Want some exercise
and love? Come out
and walk the Pyrs and
spend time socializing
them. We can also use
help transporting dogs
to adoption events or
from shelters or
rendezvous locations to
our kennels. Our big
white fluffy dogs need
brushing now that the
weather is cooler.
There’s always a list of
“honey do’s” for a work
group to tackle
(painting, minor repairs).
So come join us!
The students from the
Veterinary Science
program at Hermitage
Technical Center are
returning on Friday,
October 23 for another
“Spa Day”. And we are
very excited to have their
help getting the dogs
ready for the winter
months.
Fall Spa Day
Licensed Veterinary
Technician Karen Bowles
and her students are
volunteering for a day of
walking, grooming and
bathing Pyrs.
Karen’s class also has a
grooming business. Every
Thursday throughout the
school year, her students
trim nails, clean ears,
brush and de-mat,
bathe and dry dogs
and cats. The money
they make goes
towards classroom pet
supplies, grooming and
cleaning supplies, and
sending students to
state and national
competitions.
Donate Supplies
We can always use
supplies… some of the
typical needs are:
- Dog biscuits (all sizes)
- Blankets (preferably
polyester) and towels - Pedigree canned dog
food (chopped
chicken)
- Pork rolls (for chewing)
- Hard tough toys
- x-large dog crates
- Stainless steel water
buckets
- Pill pockets
- Postage stamps, file
folders, labels, office
supplies.
Fundraising
Any organization that
does rescue is always in
need of funding. If you
would like to offer
financial help, please
feel free to make a
donation. The money
goes directly to the care
and placement of the
Pyrenees we rescue.
To send a donation by
