Downloading, Installing and Registering Radar Contact

Download the Radar Contact Zip Archives

Use this link, provided by John Dekker (one of the Radar Contact developers), to download the Radar

Unzip the installation files to a convenient folder. There are three files in the zip archive.

Install Radar Contact

Once downloaded and unzipped, run the installer and carefully follow these steps:

1. DO NOT accept the default location to install Radar Contact – ‘C:\Program Files (x86)’. You

MUST choose an unprotected location (somewhere that does not require Administrator rights

to add, delete or modify files). A good choice would be ‘c:\rcv4’ and is actually a ‘known good’

place to install.

2. After revising the install location, allow the installer to proceed.

3. At the point in the Radar Contact (RC) installer when you click Install, you'll be prompted to

4. If you have P3D or FSX, browse to its root folder. Otherwise, create a folder at the root of your

6. The second time you're prompted to browse to your FSX folder, the folder selected earlier will

already be selected. Just click OK.

7. After RC is installed, the FSUIPC installer starts and again, prompts for the FSX folder. Just click

Cancel; you’ll be returned to the RC installer.

8. When back in the RC installer, click Next. Note the steps described for sending an email to get a

license code no longer apply.

9. Click Finish.

Register Radar Contact

After Radar Contact is installed, you are required to register the product and obtain a license key. Once

downloaded and unzipped, run the registration tool (rcv4encrypt.exe) and carefully follow these steps:

1. The first time you run Radar Contact, you’ll be prompted for the registration key.

2. Copy the Product ID from the text box in the ‘Send the Information Yourself’ group. (Don’t

worry about the ‘First Name’ and ‘Last Name’ boxes.)

3. Run rcv4encrypt.

4. Paste the Product ID into the top box and click ‘Encrypt 4’.

5. Copy the text from the bottom box and paste into ‘Key’ box of the registration window.

6. Click the ‘Click Here...’ button. After the key generation is complete, the registration window

will close.

7. Launch Radar Contact again. Radar Contact should display its splash screen then open to its

main window.

Installing and Configuring Aerofly FS2 RC ATC

Install Aerofly RC ATC

Extract the installer to a convenient location, such as your desktop.

Launch the installer, read and accept the End User License Agreement.

The install location is not configurable, but you can choose to exclude the documentation if desired. The

recommended Setup Type is Complete.

The install will commence. You will be prompted to approve changes to your system and will need to

enter Administrator credentials if logged in with administrator rights.

When the installation is complete, you MUST reboot to properly complete setup.

Configure Aerofly FS2 RC ATC

Aerofly FS2 RC ATC includes a configuration tool to choose preferences as desired. It can be found on

your Start Menu:

What is the AFS2 RC ATC Configuration Tool?

• The AFS2 RC ATC Configuration Tool is a simple, standalone application that is used modify

AFS2 RC ATC settings to align with an individual user’s preferences. Consisting of a Main

Window and a few sub-windows, the user can adjust location, size and color of the Radar

Contact text menu, enable or disable weather-related settings and configure flight control

peripherals for use with ATC interactions.

The Main Window

• Radar Contact Menu Location

o Select the corner of the screen where you would like the Radar Contact menu displayed.

• Radar Contact Menu Text

o The Select Color button displays a standard Windows Color Chooser dialog from which

the desired Radar Contact menu text color is selected.

• Weather

o AFS2 RC ATC will download the current weather in METAR format periodically when

Enable Weather is selected. The downloaded weather conditions are provided on

request to Radar Contact, typically based on the aircraft location or the arrival airport.

o With Visibility Control enabled, AFS2 RC ATC has the capability to adjust the AFS2

visibility setting in real time based on atmospheric conditions as reported by weather

stations in the vicinity of the aircraft while on the ground or in flight.

• Logging

o In case of unexpected behaviors or either Radar Contact or AFS2, a log file can be

generated to assist in troubleshooting the problem. Enable Logging should be disabled

during normal operation.

• Flight Controller Key Mappings

o AFS2 RC ATC will generate Radar Contact commands using input from flight control

peripherals using assigned buttons. The Flight Controller Key Mappings button launches

the Flight Controller Key Mappings Window.

• Restore CFG File

o The Restore CFG File button will create a new configuration file using default values.

• Register Aerofly FS2 RC ATC

o AFS2 RC ATC requires a license for trial or permanent use. The trial period expires seven

days following installation. The permanent license is good for the life of the product.

Note that the license is specific to a specific hardware configuration. Should the

hardware configuration change, a new will need to be requested. Also, two keys will be

provided for a single purchase to allow Aerofly RC ATC to be used for example, on a

desktop computer and a laptop.

The Flight Controller Key Mappings Window

Radar Contact Commands

• The left-hand column of the window lists the Radar Contact commands that can be assigned to

flight controller buttons. Any or all can be assigned. Assignments from multiple flight controllers

is supported.

Flight Controller Button Chooser Window Buttons

• The ellipsis buttons in the center column of the window displays the Flight Controller Button

Chooser Window which allows the desired button to be selected.

Assignments

• The right-hand column shows all existing assignments: the flight controller name followed by

the button. With no assignment, “Unassigned” is displayed; when the peripheral previously

assigned to the command is disconnected, “Assigned controller unavailable” is displayed.

The Flight Controller Button Chooser Window

• The text at the center of the window indicates which flight controller button has been pressed;

if none, ‘??’ is displayed.

• Once a button is selected, its numerical Id replaces the ‘??’.

• When an assignment exists but another button has not been selected, clicking OK in the window

will prompt the user to confirm clearing the existing assignment.

• Choosing ‘Yes’ clears the assignment; ‘No’ dismisses the Flight Controller Button Chooser

without making any changes and ‘Cancel’ returns the user to the Flight Controller Button

Assigning a Flight Controller Button, Step by Step

1. Open the Flight Controller Key Mappings Window by clicking ‘Flight Controller Key Mappings’ in

the Main Window.

2. Click the ellipsis button to the right of the Radar Contact command.

3. With the Flight Controller Button Chooser Window displayed, press the button on the flight

controller. If you press a button by mistake, just press the desired button to correct.

4. Click OK.

5. The name of the flight controller and selected button is now displayed in the right-hand column

of the Flight Controller Key Mappings Window.

6. Click OK.

7. Back in the Main Window, click OK to dismiss the configuration Tool and save the updated

configuration file.
