Agenda
Why Now?• Aging Infrastructure
• Water and wastewater (Region)• Region’s State of Good Repair Program• Service growth in the downtown area
• Background• Region work originally planned for 2015• Deferred due to uncertainty on LRT location• Coordinating with the City and other utilities (Alectra, Enbridge, Telecoms) to minimize impacts during construction
Watermain and Sewer Work
Design Update• Fall 2016
• Topographic survey and subsurface utility investigations to prepare baseplan – map out where existing infrastructure is located
• Winter 2017: Preliminary design• Spring 2017
• Drilled 23 boreholes to determine soil conditions • Preparation of five reports to outline environmental, hydrogeological and geotechnical conditions
• Summer 2017: Detailed design• Fall 2017
• Completion of 120 of 156 test pits to date, to determine the depth of existing utilities
• January 2018: Finalization of design drawings• February 2018: Tender release• April 2018: Construction commencement
Construction Sequencing• Typical work occupies 2 lanes
• One for trenching• One for equipment
• One lane of traffic is maintained in both directions
• At key pinch points traffic may be reduced to one lane for short durations
• Potential for night work for some activities to mitigate impacts of water service disruptions and traffic impacts
• Crews will work in multiple areas on the same street and on multiple streets simultaneously
Construction Sequencing• Staging plans must be approved by the City of Brampton
• Under Review
• Work in progress• FULL CLOSURE OPTION –could reduce time by approx. 2 months
• Required FULL closure of Main/Queen in the downtown
