Disaster Management Training Programme 2014
• Workshop hosted by Macedonian Protection and Rescue Directorate
• Main objective: To enable experienced first responders and policy developers to brainstorm ideas for most optimal model of disaster information management system • Two Goals: National – further development of DPPI SEE countries’ national disaster information systems; Regional - in support of the idea behind the creation of DPPI SEE (exchange of ideas &knowledge, networking) • Lecturers from UN OCHA and Macedonian academia

country legal considerations (12 – 13 February 2014, Skopje)
• Co-organized by General Directorate for Civil Emergencies, UNISDR and CIMA Foundation
• Main objective: Presentation of historical inventory of losses caused by disasters in Albania • Database covering the period from 1851 (for earthquakes), i.e. from 1945 (for all other disasters) with the use of 4 main sources of data: 1) Ministry of Internal Affairs of Albania, 2) National Library, 3) State Archive and 4) Institute of Geoscience, Energy, Water and Environment
Workshop on Desinventar (6 – 7 March 2014, Tirana)
• Co-organised by Croatian National Protection and Rescue Directorate, Security (Zaštita) Magazine (Tectus Ltd. company) and Croatian Network of Urban Security Stakeholders (CNUSS)
• Main objective: To bring together renowned European security experts to share their expertise and findings with the cities of the region • Key expert topics: civil and crisis city management, new technologies in city security systems, European experiences and environment protection as a part of city security

• Seminar hosted by Serbian Sector for Emergency Management • Main objective: Presenting& discussing the place and role of Specialized Civil Protection Units in the organisation of mass evacuation and shelter provision for the affected population in case of an emergency in an SEE country • Key topics: 1) Drafting and implementation of legal regulations for conducting evacuations of people and animals 2) Development and best examples of evacuation plans in case of emergencies

• Seminar hosted by Bulgarian Chief Directorate Fire Safety and Civil Protection
• Main objective: To facilitate exchange of information and best practices of cooperation in the field of fire safety and civil protection between countries in the SEE region • Day 1: countries’ presentations discussion, Q&A); Day 2: a scenario-based group discussion exercise on a complex emergency that occurred in Bulgaria • Seminar lectures supported by Bulgarian Red Cross

• Competition hosted by Macedonian Protection and Rescue Directorate/ supported by Operation Florian (UK)
• Main objective: to stimulate and develop proficiency level of Macedonian rescue personnel in: Incident command, Extrication, Safety, Pre-hospital care and Expert-use of equipment • 8 teams of professional fire fighters of Macedonia - single venue – test of skills for tackling different RTC scenarios • Emphasis on “Best Safe Practice”
National Road Traffic Collision Extrication Challenge

7th International Scientific and Professional Conference
“Crisis Management Days” (22 – 23 May 2014, Zagreb)
• Hosted by the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management of Turkey (AFAD) and Turkish Earthquake Foundation • Main purpose: To provide a perfect platform for discussion on Earthquake Engineering and Seismology, along with priority issues of global importance • Side event: DPPI SEE Collaboration and Evaluation meeting (countries’ presentations on national seismic networks followed by discussion on perspectives for strengthening seismic data exchange in SEE) • Conference website: http://www.2eceesistanbul.org
2nd European Conference on Earthquake Engineering and
Seismology (25 – 29 August, Istanbul)
• Hosted and organised by Croatian National Protection and Rescue Directorate
• Main focus: Including DRR in school curricula with basics of responding to and recovering from disasters specific to the SEE region • Methodology: 4 days (half-day blocks, mixture of presentations& group work) a case study/ simulation exercise culminating in a school age appropriate DRR inclusive lecture • Target audience: Lower-level grade (6 – 10 years) and geography teachers • Attendance: 13 participants (7 countries) and 7 facilitators (Croatia)
DRR for TEACHERS course – pilot project
(28 Aug – 1 Sep 2014, Tuhelj)
• Three groups (Disaster, Risk and Reduction)
• Task: Come up with a way to include DRR related topics into geography curricula; Sub-tasks: - Choose a DRR/ hazard related topic - Choose grade to which to present the topic - Choose age appropriate teaching material and
methodology - Prepare a presentation on a chosen topic • The course evaluation results + conclusions/ recommendations available in Course Report
DRR for TEACHERS course – pilot project
(28 Aug – 1 Sep 2014, Tuhelj)
• Co-organised by Croatian National Protection and Rescue Directorate & Slovenian Administration for Civi Protection and Disaster Relief
• Main focus: Learning and practising a holistic approach to reducing risks, responding to and recovering from disasters specific to the SEE region • Methodology: 4 days (half-day blocks, mixture of presentations& group work) a case study/ simulation exercise culminating in a group project • Attendance: 16 participants (8 countries) and 7 facilitators (Croatia, Slovenia and Sweden)
