I have searched through a number of pages of fonts to finalise them all down to my 5 favourites. They each have their merits that would look appropriate in the context of my double page spread. However, this is only individually; now they are side-by-side I must eliminate some. Out of the above fonts I like the ‘Syntinen ihminen on Kaunis’ and ‘Blackentina 4F italic’ font the most. Below I have summarised their key strengths and weaknesses.

‘Syntinen’ pros ‘Syntinen’ cons ‘Blackentina’ pros ‘Blackentina’ cons

It looks like graffiti which has connotations towards the delinquent youth. This would have a irony about it that I think would work well.

Wouldn’t look as effective in anything but black

I think it is modern and edgy. This would appeal greatly to the target audience.

The text is very dense which could make it difficult for some readers.

It is aesthetically pleasing The text is all on one level has the same sizes throughout.

Whilst flicking through a magazine the text may not be easily readable quickly. Readers shouldn’t have to pause to read a title; if it’s simple it would attract attention after reading it.

When you flick onto a page I feel it would grab the readers attention.

The text is concise in design and is consistent.

Personally, it doesn’t grab my attention. This is a negative because readers wouldn’t be drawn into reading the article.

Even though the font is simple I think is effective in portraying the message.

In conclusion, I will use the ‘Syntinen’ font for my title on the double page spread. Having the right font is key to making the magazine article look professional and adhering to the conventions. Even if everything else was appropriate and perfect the title is one of the stand of pieces on the article. Therefore, its accuracy is crucial to the article’s success.
