DEFINITION: This position is responsible for overseeing the City’s Cross Connection Control Program that consists of performing crconnection surveys to prevent the backflow of contaminated water and the testing of backflow prevention devices.

Ensures City’s compliance with all Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection DEP!. Cross Connection and "ackflow#egulations. $ssists in other DEP mandated programs as re%uired.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:$dministers the Cross Connection Program to ensure that all cross connections are eliminated or protected.Enforces the regulations of the Cross Connection Control Program and backflow installation and testing re%uirements. Monitors newconstruction& building conversions and other retrofits that tap into private water systems in coordination with the 'orthampton "uildinDepartment to identify possible backflow situations. Monitors private backflow assembly testing and maintains documentation of deviceMails letters and corresponds with property owners regarding the Cross Connection Program . #eviews site plans and addresses watercontainment issues( assists in the design of cross connection applications for new construction.Meets with water customers( determines water usage( analy)es e%uipment for potential cross connections( locates and inspects crossconnections( determines practical solutions and system corrections( confirms compliance with recommended changes( inspects newbackflow assemblies& tests e*isting backflow devices.+ollows and implements termination of service procedures due to non,compliance.$ssists with the repair and installation of water services& water mains& and fire hydrants on an as needed basis. #ead and upgrade wate

meters as necessary.$ssists in other DEP mandated programs as re%uiredPerforms other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM =UALIFICATIONS:E.+!"%(* !* E>$%*+-igh school diploma or e%uivalency( associates degree or higher preferred( e*perience in overseeing a Cross Connection Control prograin addition to two years e*perience in the operation and maintenance of a municipal water system highly desirable( or any e%uivalentcombination of education and e*perience.?*(4,7 A@%,%"7 !* S%,, :/eneral knowledge of Tokay "ackflow Prevention 0oftware and Micro0oft 1ffice products( working knowledge of residential& commercand industrial plumbing and backflow device testing& operation and installation.$bility to perform cross connection surveys at all types of businesses under varying conditions( ability to follow oral or writteninstructions( ability to deal with the public tactfully and effectively.
