f) Activities in brief
(1). Strengthening the Self Help Groups (SHGs) for improved Livelihood HUM initiated with the
aim of forming and strengthening SHGs among the tribal women in 50 villages in Hojai district and to
initiate income generation programmes and in order to improve their socio economic status. More than
100 SHGs are formed and supported with trainings on income generation livelihood activities like, candle
making, mushroom cultivation, tailoring, piggery and fishery etc, with the help of block and district rural
development authorities.
(2). Emergency Relief: HUM has pledged to lead the relief and rehabilitation operation during the time
of natural calamities and other disasters. HUM has organized medical camps, distributed emergency food
and cloth materials to the relief camps in the past seven years with the support of district authorities and
Assam State Disaster management Authority.
(3).Vocational Training: This programme is being implemented in Hojai District with the support of
Functional Vocational Training and Research Society. The objective of this project is to help school dropout
rural tribal boys and girls and widows to enhance their skills to earn their livelihood. Various programmes
are running under this programme.
(4).Computer Literacy Program: HUM has been imparting computer literacy program through
“COMPUGYAN” Computer Education and Sevan Kendra in association with NIIT Foundation since its
inception to the poor educated youths of the district and established its centre in its office premise.
(5).Alcoholism and substance (drugs) abuse: HUM has been working and creating awareness camps and conducted rallies in the district to prevent alcoholism and substance abuse and to prevent trafficking of it in the district with the help of district authorities of Assam. The organization is awarded by the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) and Nagaon District Administration as “District Level Youth Club Award” for the outstanding work done for the Youth and the Community.

HOJAI UNNAYAN MANCHA (HUM), an NGO actively involved in ushering the rapid holistic development in Socio- Economic, culture, sports, education, Health and hygiene and encouraging sustainable Environmental Development programs.
The HUM is the social development organization registered under societies registration Act of 1860. HUM commenced its development intervention from 2011 with spectrum of interventions leading to sustainable development. HUM operates under the jurisdiction of newly created Hojai district of Assam, which was part of Nagaon district of Assam.
Vision : A self Reliant Society based on Love, Justice, Unity and Peace.
Mission: To empower the poor and marginalized ethnic groups by promoting self reliance among them through awareness creation and people’s Organization.
Objectives of HUM:
To create awareness and mobilize the less privileged groups of the society and help them
to improve their conditions and find solutions to their problems.
To assist and train the animators to integrate, mobilize and develop human resources.
To formulate and undertake different developmental projects on education, health and
agriculture for improving the socio-economic status of the people.
To collaborate with government and other secular organizations to promote development
for humanitarian activities.
To undertake relief, rehabilitation and welfare services for the victims of flood, ethnic
violence, fire etc. as the situation demand
