Dr. Allen Tannenbaum - Ohio State's
Mathematical Biosciences Institute
MBI Offers a Vigorous Program of Research and Education, and Fosters the Growth of an International Community of
Researchers in Mathematical Biosciences
As a Goodrich Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham,
Dr. Allen Tannenbaum educates students of its Comprehensive Cancer Center and
Radiology Departments. In 2014, Dr. Allen Tannenbaum will sit on the organization committee for Ohio State University’s
Mathematical Biosciences Institute (MBI) in biomedical imaging.
Providing educational and research opportunities, MBI offers a myriad of services for scientists around the world. It inspires a
greater understanding of the use of mathematical, computational, and statistical models for biosciences, and it promotes the development of new fields. The endeavors available from MBI expand upon existing
research while providing students with greater insights into these areas.
Additionally, MBI hosts seminars for enrollees and the public. Undergraduates can
spend their summers delving into mathematical biology through classroom sessions and fieldwork. Those earning
advanced degrees can acquire insights into how various processes can be applied to
different topics. Moreover, its public lecture series has featured topics such as how mathematics can help understand heart
attacks, the science of drag racing, and the operations of a honeybee colony.
