Conscious Discipline

• A whole-school solution for social-emotional learning, discipline and

self-regulation.

• Evidence-based and was named as a national model for character

education by the Florida State Legislature.

• It addresses the adult’s emotional intelligence as well as the child’s.

• Empowers adults to consciously respond to daily conflict, transforming

it into an opportunity to teach critical life skills to children.

There are Four Key Components for success with Conscious Discipline.

Brain State Model

Conscious Discipline empowers us to be conscious of brain-body states in ourselves and children. It then

provides us with the practical skills we need to manage our thoughts, feeling and actions.

Seven Powers for Conscious Adults: The Foundation of Safety

The biggest threat to a child’s sense of safety is an out-of-control adult. The key to safety is a conscious,

mindful adult.

The School Family:

The Foundation for Connection

The School Family builds connections between families and schools, teachers and teachers, teachers and

students, and students and students to ensure the optimal development of all.

Seven Skills of Discipline:

The Foundation of Problem-Solving

The seven skills are Composure, Encouragement, Assertiveness, Choices, Empathy, Positive Intent and

Consequences.

I absolutely love the Conscious Discipline method. It’s a

classroom management system to help both the

students and teachers by using Brain Smart strategies

to respond rather than react to life events. One of my

favorite methods from this is the S.T.A.R. method.

Smile. Take a Deep Breath and Relax. There is also a

Safe Place. The safe place is made up of anything you

want it to and the children are allowed to sit and read or

do whatever they want when they are feeling sad, angry,

scared, etc…These methods are all a great way to use

in any classroom. It helps with limiting discipline,

motivating children and increase in kindness and joy.
