I am happy to endorse that Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute, Pune, is aware of the basicrequirements for the successful running of a biotechnology center.As a result the newly constructed building hostsa 90,000 sq. feet campus which is a home to hi-tech laboratories with modern instruments for teaching andresearch work, a library of thousands number of books, a technically advance computer laboratory, a center ofexcellence as microbial diversity department, in-house canteen and separate hostel accommodation for male andfemale students & entire WAN network with speed up to 46 mbps.

In addition to modern infra-structure, the team at DPU is constituted of highly qualified and competent facultywith national and international experience in teaching and research. OUR POINT OF PRIDE 89th AKHIL BHARATIYA MARATHI

SAHITYA SAMMELAN

The feather in the cap for the success of DPU was the 89th

Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (All India Annual

Marathi Literary Meet) which was hosted by DPU from 15th

to 18th January, 2016. This event will truly go down to the

history not only of DPU but also of the great state of

Maharashtra as a grand success story. On an average

1,50,000 discerning people from India and abroad visited the

venue every day. A gigantic exhibition encompassing 400

book stalls truly representing the rich and vast culture of

reading and literary excellence of the people, recorded sales

of books worth Rs. 5.50 crores in four days. Speeches and

lectures, group discussions, panel discussions, poetry

reading sessions were thronged by astute readers in

thousands. The Sammelan was truly a Maha-Kumbh Mela of

all Marathi literature lovers.

Eminent luminaries, such as Mr. Devendra Fadanavis -

Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Nitin - Gadkari

Hon'ble Union Minister of Transport & Shipping, Mr. Vinod

Tawade - Hon'ble Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs,

Government of Maharashtra, Mr. Sharad Pawar - Former

Union Minister, Mr. Gulzar, Mr. Chetan Bhagar, Mr. Javed

Akhtar, Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, Ms. Asha Bhosale, Mr.

Sushil Kumar Shinde, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar and other dignataries

etc. attended the Sammelan. Gyanpeeth Award Winners

were Padmavibhushan Sitakant Mahapatra, Padmashri Satya

Vrat Shastri, Padmashri Rehman Rahi, as well as, Padmashri

Pratibha Ray also felicitated in the Sammelan. Renowned

Marathi Author Dr. Shripal Sabnis President the Sammelan.

DPU has granted a sum of Rs. 15.00 lacs to three eminent

personalities for promotion and propagation of Marathi

language and literature in the field of education. The entire

contribution collected towards the rent of book stalls and the

delegate registration charges were donated with additional

amount making a total of Rs. 1.00 crore to NAAM foundation

for helping the families of farmers in the drought prone area,

who have committed suicide.

Biotechnology deals with an array of important activities with actual as well as potential impact on every sphere of human

living and welfare: from food security, environmental protection, medical diagnosis and treatment, to national security.

The field of biotechnology has, of late, pervaded and percolated every dimension of human activity, thus leading to

employment generation, large scale generation of useful products, trade, economy, health/well-being, and the quality of

human life, throughout the world. Bioinformatics, on the other hand, is the application of computer technology to the

management of biological information. It combines computer science with biology to gather, store, analyse and integrate

biological and genetic information which can then be applied to drug discovery and development. Truly, Bioinformatics is

an indispensable ally of researchers in every area of biological research.

The biotechnology industry comprises of various segments: Blue (aquatic), Green (agricultural), Red (medical) and White

(industrial) biotechnology. While Bio-pharma deals with the production of vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics, Agri-

biotech deals with plant tissue culture, transgenic crops, bio-pesticides, and bio-fertilizers. Bioinformatics uses biological

data and speeds up development of new products. Bio-industrial sector deals with bio-products manufacturing which are

used in detergent, textile, food, leather, paper and pharmaceutical industry.

Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune for developing a career in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. DYPBBI is dedicated to train and

develop students in the field of Biotechnology. DYPBBI offers both UG and PG courses in Biotechnology, and Bioinformatics.

We also offer Ph.D. programmes in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. Learning at the Institute is supported by adequate

and up-to-date infrastructure facilities including subject-specific laboratories and all relevant and modern instruments

required for training.

At the Institute, we have adequate number of quality faculty with expertise in various sub-areas in Biotechnology &

Bioinformatics. International exposure and dedication is our other strength. We pay substantial attention to the essential

requirement of hands-on experience through research projects. In this way, we endeavor that the students become

competent for further studies and employment at various organizations including industry.

Beyond this, DYPBBI is an exciting place for co-curricular and extra-curricular events such as symposia and seminars,

The InstituteDr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology & Bioinformatics Institute, Tathawade, Pune -33 is

established as one of the constituent unit of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (Deemed

University) Pune. The Institute is located at Survey No. 87/88, Tathawade Pune -33.

This institute is led by eminent Biotechnologists, Molecular Biologists, Biochemists,

Industrial Microbiologists, Plant & Animal Biotechnologists & Bioinformaticians. In

addition, eminent visiting faculties from Industrial & Academic background are

invited for their valuable expertise in the specialized topics covering Biotechnology &

Bioinformatics

InfrastructureInstitute is having a building with sixty five thousand sq. ft. area. The Institute has

developed state-of-the-art lecture rooms equipped with LCD and overhead projectors,

Public address (PA) system etc. It has a well equipped library with titles from foreign

and Indian authors. Institutional library has a rich collection of text books, reference

books & national and international journals, including e-books and e-journals. Well-

equipped laboratories as required for efficient teaching and research are in place.

Computer laboratory is equipped with ninety five personal computers with LAN

connection and 24X7 high speed internet facilities through which students can access

scientific literature, lectures by faculty, industry news which would help them to create

general awareness in the discipline.It is also possible to access Bioinformatics databases and software, public domain

software for molecular graphics and informatics in addition to in house software and

application software from commercial vendors (e.g. SYSTAT for statistical analysis,

Bioinformatics packages:- V life, Flexy and HYPERCHEM). The institute has 21

laboratories for: Biochemistry, Microbiology, Industrial Biotechnology, Animal &

Plant Tissue Culture, Molecular Biology, Instrumentation and two computer

laboratories. Wet laboratories are equipped with spectrophotometers (UV-VIS, double

beam), electronic balances, high speed cooling centrifuge, deep fridge-150 C, BOD0

incubators, HPLC, Gas chromatography, biosafety cabinets, ELISA reader, Gel Doc

System, Fermenters, PCR machines etc. Further, the Institution has ambitious plans for

developing one of the best Research and Development center for contract research

program in Pune.

HostelAccommodation:Girl's & Boy's Hostel facility are available on payment basis subject to availability. A

well-built hostel of 32,256 Sq. ft. area is available on campus, having mess facilities on

payment basis. The rooms are well furnished along with the amenities like Internet,

Telephone, Doctor on Call, hot water facility etc. Reading room & Central TV room are

also available.

ResearchDr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology & Bioinformatics Institute has established research in

Biotechnology & Bioinformatics area in a short span of time. The Institute has received

research funding from National & International agencies like Department of Science &

Technology (DST), Govt. of India & Swedish International Development Corporation

Agency (SIDA), Sweden. The faculty publish papers in National & International peer

reviewed journals & present their research along with their students at National &

International conferences. The Institute has published 120 research papers, 10 book

chapters & 173 research abstracts since 2009. Nearly 20% students pursue higher

studies in reputed national & international universities giving strong alumni to the

Institute. Under bilateral exchange program our faculty and students are deputed to

The DPU will provide the facility of downloading Admit Cards of All India Entrance Test on website: www.dpu.edu.in along with aformat for affixing of Passport size photograph. Candidates are required to download the admit card from the website and follow theintructions given therein. Candidate may please note that admit cards will not be sent by the post.

The Admit Card will bear the candidate's Roll Number, Name, Father's Name, Photograph, Signature with Name and Address ofexamination centre allotted. The candidate should carefully examine the Admit Card downloaded by him/her for all the entries madetherein.

The Candidate submitting online application form should also pay processing & entrance fee online payment gateway through payment.The candidate submitting offline application form should pay processing & entrance test fee by Demand Draft (DD) drawn on"The Registrar Dr. D.Y. Distribution of Seats

The two year M.Sc. (Biotechnology) course has four semesters. The first three semesters cover 75 credits hours with: basic subjects suchas: Mathematics, Biostatistics, Cell Biology, Bio-analytical Techniques; Life science areas such as: Biochemistry, Microbiology,Genetics, and Biotechnology topics such as: Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering,Animal & Plant Tissue Culture, Enzymology andEnzyme Technology, Bioprocess Technology and Bioengineering. The course on Bioinformatics is introduced to familiarize the studentwith different application of Bioinformatics in speeding up discoveries in Biotechnology, similarly a course on Biosafety, Bioethics andIPR is introduced to make the student more suitable for the Industry. There are number of elective courses such as: Biopharmaceuticals,Food Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Clinical Research, Molecular Modeling and Drug Designing, etc.

The fourth semester has twenty five credits. It is dedicated to industry posting and / or research posting in the reputed National /International research institute. Students can also do research in the Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology & Bioinformatics Institute with seniorfaculty members.

The two year M. Sc. (Bioinformatics) has four semesters, 105 credit hours. The degree is focused to deal with basic sciences with itsapplication in informatics. The course covers all the fields of biology like cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry in orderto apply their methods and principles in computers. The program is focused to teach students different bioinformatics tools, differentprogramming languages, database development and chemo informatics skills required in drug designing.

Thus the course will equip undergraduate students skill to conceptualize design and develop well designed software's and database forbiologists. It will also provide professional expertise in the areas of Biotechnology and Information technology

ELIGIBILITYFORADMISSIONBachelor (B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hon), B. Tech.) in Biology, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology, HumanBiology, Biotechnology, Pharmacology, Agriculture Biotechnology, B. Pharm, M.B.B.S., or B.V.Sc., of recognized Indian or ForeignUniversity. In addition to this for admission to M. Sc. Bioinformatics student having bachelor degree in Computer Science, Physic &Mathematics are also eligible.* NRI PIO FN- Non Resident Indian; - Person of Indian Origin; - Foreign National** Reservation of seats may be introduced in accordance with directives of the Government of India for Universities established

under Section 3 of the University Grants CommissionAct, 1956, if such directives are issued subsequent to the publication of thisbrochure.

PROCEDUREAND DEFINITIONS :General Category: Admissions under this category shall be made on the basis of the inter-se merit of the candidates qualified atAIPGBET- 17.

NRI/PIO/FN Category: Candidate under this category are not required to appear for AIPGBET- 17. Admissions will be made on thebasis of inter-se merit.The candidate will be required to pay processing fee of U.S. $ 200.In case any seat earmarked for NRI / PIO / FNs is not filled in by the candidates of any of these sub-categories, the management shall fillin such vacant seat(s) from the candidate(s) who has / have cleared theAIPGBET- 17.In this context, the bonafide NRIs, PIOs and Foreign Nationals are defined as follows:An NRI is a person who is “not a resident” or who is “not ordinarily resident”.Aperson is treated as “not ordinarily resident” (i) if he / shehas been resident in India for less than 182 days in the year preceding the date of application; or (ii) If he / she has been in India for lessthan 365 days during the four years immediately preceding the date of application.APIO is a person having foreign citizenship (except Pakistan and Bangladesh) within NRI status, but who holds a foreign passport at thetime of sending application or at the time of consideration for admission and during the period of his study for courses and whose one /both parents or anyone / both grand parents is (or was) are (or were), citizen(s), of India by virtue of the provisions of the Constitution ofIndia or Section 2(b) of CitizenshipAct 1955 (Act. VIDYAPEETH ELIGIBILITY& REGISTRATION FEE (ONE-TIME FEE):

15% (Fifteen Percent) of theAnnual Fee, payable for the first year only, shall be paid by the student separately at the time of filling in the

Eligibility Application, as Vidyapeeth Eligibility & Registration Fee. This fee shall be paid by a Demand Draft (DD) Drawn in favor of

HOSTELACCOMMODATION & FEES FORACADEMICYEAR 2017-18:

Hostel and Mess facilities are available on the campus for both boys and girls who wish to avail the same. The rooms(on payment basis)

are well furnished along with the amenities like Internet facility, Doctor on Call, Hot water facility, Central TV room & Reading Room

are also available.

RULES FOR CANCELLATION OF ANADMISSION AND REFUND OFFEES

Instructions To CandidatesCandidates are advised

1. To read the instructions for filling up the application form given in the brochure.

2. To affix photographs on the application form, Admit Card & Letter of Authorization (for Representation during selection process)

taken from the same negative.

3. To verify that the application form is signed by the candidate, candidate's parent/guardian and that the photograph is duly

attested by the Head of the Institution along with the official seal, before submitting.

4. To preserve the Fee Receipt and Admit Card safely and bring the same to the Test hall and produce it on demand.

6. To note that issue of Admit Card is just a provision for appearing in AIPGBET-17 and does not imply that the candidate is eligible for

7. To occupy the seat in the test hall at least 30 minutes before the commencement of the Test, and in any case, not after 11.30 am.

9. To enter the AIPGBET-1 Seat Number carefully on the answer sheet.

10. Not to remove any page(s) from the Test Booklet. If any page(s) is/are found missing from his/her Test Booklet, he/she will be

proceeded against and shall be liable for criminal action.

11. Not to leave the test hall till the completion of Test, and handing over the Answer Sheet and Test Booklet to the invigilator.

DISPUTESDifferences of opinion and disputes arising in the interpretation and implementation of the clauses in this brochure, if any, shall bereferred to the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune and his decision shall be final and binding on all the concerned.

COURT JURISDICTIONAny legal dispute arising out of the admission procedure of these courses and refund of fees of the Vidyapeeth shall be under Punejurisdiction only.
