Australian Technical Colleges

The Coalition will establish 24 Australian Technical Colleges. The colleges will teach up to 7,200 students in Years 11 and 12. Each College will have strong linkages with industry, will specialise ir particular trades and will be run with a significant degree of autonomy by thei~ principals.

Tenders will be sought to establish colleges in specified locations.

Funding to each college is expected tc vary according to the courses offered and the particular circumstances of the successful tenderers.

Students who attend the colleges will bf funded at the same rate as govemmeni and non-government secondary students.

To provide a new and dynamic form 01 trade-related training for Year 11 and 1: students.

The policy is one of a number of measures aimed at improving skills training, assisting apprentices and addressing skills shortages. However, it can be costed in isolation from other initiatives.
