4) Mt. Hermon

Deu 3:8-10

And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side Jordan, from the river of Arnon unto mount Hermon;

(Which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion; and the Amorites call it Shenir;)

All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, unto Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

HERMON= Heb. Chermown meaning, “a sanctuary”; from the root word charam meaning, “to ban; devote; destroy”; it appears 52x (4 x 13) in scripture and is translated “destroy; accursed; forfeited”

HERMON appears 13x (# of REBELLION)

Mt. Hermon’s summit straddles the border between Lebanon and Syria on the 33rd parallel (N); southern slopes are located in the Golan Heights

Mt. Hermon was the northern border for the ancient nation of Bashan, which prior to Israel’s conquest was ruled by Og (a GIANT) and called “the land of giants” (Deu 3:13)

5) Hebron (Kirjath-arba)

Num 13:22

And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

Jos 14:15

And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.

6) The Valley Of The Son Of Hinnom (The Valley Of The Giants)

Jos 18:16

And the border came down to the end of the mountain that lieth before the valley of the son of Hinnom, and which is in the valley of the giants on the north, and descended to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of Jebusi on the south, and descended to Enrogel,

Hinnom was the place where children were sacrificed in the fire to Molech

Jesus Christ likened this place to the lake of fire

7) Philistia- David and his mighty men destroyed Goliath and his four sons

(4= # of the SPIRIT REALM); this may be why David took FIVE stones

with him to battle (1 Sam 17:40)

Jos 11:22

There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath,

and in Ashdod, there remained.

1 Sam 17:4

And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath,

whose height was six cubits and a span.

2 Sam 21:22

These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of

his servants.


Goliath and his sons are the last giants given by name

2 Sam 21:16-18

And Ishbibenob, which was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.

And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant.

1 Chr 20:5

And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver's beam.

2 Sam 21:20-22

And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.

And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea the brother of David slew him.

These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.


4. Associations Of The Post-Flood Giants

They were MIGHTY and CHAMPIONS (Heb. Gibbowr), meaning they had superhuman and godlike strength and abilities (Gen 6:4; 1 Sam 17:51)

They are called MEN (Gen 6:4; Jos 14:15; 2 Sam 21:20; 1 Chr 20:6) in the same sense that angels are (Gen 19:15-16); it isn’t that they ARE men, but they APPEAR like men (it is a COSMETIC likeness not a GENETIC likeness)

There is no mention of female giants just as there is no mention of female angels

They ate people (Num 13:32)

The Anakims are descendants of the pre-Flood giants (Num 13:33)

They are associated with iron (Deu 3:11) cf. (Dan 2:43; Gen 6:2)

As hybrids, they should not be able to reproduce, but the fact Anak had sons (Num 13:33), as did Og (Num 21:35) and Goliath (2 Sam 21:22), proves they have procreative abilities

They are associated with sexual perversion (e.g.- incest)- one of Goliath’s sons was also his brother (2 Sam 21:19,22)


They have six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot (2 Sam 21:20)

They were responsible for introducing or facilitating wickedness in the land cf. (Gen 6:4-5,13; Psa 106:35)

Deu 9:4

Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.

They appear to decrease in height over the course of time, as their DNA becomes increasingly mingled with human DNA

Amo 2:9

Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.

The Amorites were among the first giants, east of the Jordan river

Cedar trees can grow over 100 feet tall so they were between 30-100 feet tall


The pre-Flood giants must have been even taller than this given the geological conditions before the Flood

Job 16:14

He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.

Num 13:22-23,33

And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Giants during the time of Job were tall enough to stomp a normal man under foot

The Anakims at the time of Kadesh-barnea were tall enough that the grapes of Eschol were bite size and the Israelites were like grasshoppers (i.e.- bugs) in their sight- this is between 24 and 36 feet tall


Deu 3:11

For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead was a

bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length

thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.

Og was tall enough to require a bed 13.5 feet long- he was probably between

12-13 feet tall

His bed was also six feet wide so the implication is that Og was a giant all

around (OG means “round”)- he fits the description of an OGRE

1 Sam 17:4

And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath,

whose height was six cubits and a span.

A cubit is 18 inches and a span is nine inches

Goliath was between nine and 10 feet tall


There is no mention of any giants following the death of Goliath’s sons (1 Chr 20:8) unless the Avites (2 Kin 17:31) were giants

Were the giants destroyed from the earth with the death of Goliath and his sons or are they still with us today? Has their DNA been mingled with human DNA for the past 3,000 years?

Giants were GLOBAL before the Flood, but the implication is that they were REGIONAL after the Flood, confined to the area of the Promised land

This implication could be due to the fact that with the call of Abraham, God’s primary dealing with man is through the Jew so scriptural history is focused on them henceforth

There is no indication that giants were in Egypt during the time of Joseph or thereafter; otherwise, would they not have assisted the Jewish slave labor in building the treasure cities of Egypt (Exo 1:11) since they allegedly assisted in building the pyramids?

There is archeological evidence of giants all over the world

David is a type of Christ and his mighty men are a type of the heavenly army that accompanies Christ at his Second Coming- the defeat of Goliath and his sons would seem to indicate an END to the tyranny of giants and the onset of PEACE from their presence


If giants were destroyed from the earth with the death of Goliath and his

sons, it appears the post-Flood giants were on the earth for about the same

amount of time as the pre-Flood giants- 1,200 years

The pre-Flood giants appear to have originated just shortly before the birth of

Jared due to the meaning of his name

JARED= Heb. Yered meaning, “descent” from the root word yarad meaning,

“to descend; to go downwards to a lower region; to fall; to come down”

Jared was born in 3544 BC and the Flood occurred in 2348 BC- a total of 1,196

years

The post-Flood giants ended with the death of Goliath’s sons in 1037 BC-

1,200 years earlier is 2237 BC- around the time of the tower of Babel and the

rule of NIMROD
