The Students-In-Transition (SIT) Office provides

educational support to homeless and foster care students.

Its practices are guided by the McKinney-Vento Homeless

Act of 2001 and Senate Bill 291.

SIT ensures that all students-in-transition without housing

gain immediate access to enrollment by eliminating

educational barriers.

On-going training is provided both internally and externally

i.e. SLPS staff, DJO’s, DFS, local agencies, national

organizations, shelter staff, students and parents.

SIT’s goal is to efficiently and effectively identify homeless

students and provide support for academic success (tutoring,

free meals, uniforms/clothing, counseling, transportation, mentoring, coats,

school and hygienic supplies).

School Safety and Security Department goal is to continue to reduce incidents and the

perception of crime in all St. Louis Public Schools by means of efficient and quality

oriented safety strategies that will create a school environment that is safe and conducive

for learning.

Initiatives

SLMPD will provide specialized training for Mobile Safety Officers in criminal firearms

investigations and safety (active shooter).

Initiated an Intervention Team (The Commander of Field Operations and 4 Mobile Officers)

to respond to schools experiencing problems with student disruptions, with the sole intent to

stabilize the problem by enforcing the rules of conduct that is expected of all students.

Random locker searches at all high schools and middle schools as a protective measure

Working with SLMPD and other community partners to improve safety and emergency

management in our schools

Speaking at PTO Meetings to inform our parents about safety awareness
