Introduction 0f Dengue fever
Dengue is found in tropical and sub-tropical climates worldwide.Severe dengue is a leading cause of serious
illness. There is no specific treatment for dengue.Dengue prevention and control solely depends on effective vector control.1779-80 first reported in Asia, Africa and N. America In 1994 in Pakistan at Karachi and 2011 at Lahore. Dr M Anees

Transmission of the Dengue Virus
Stages in Man By the biting of female mosquito Aedes aegypti or By infected blood transfusion. Enter into blood , liver, skin and lymph nodes. WBC produces proteins, which are responsible
for flu, pains and swelling.

Female feeds on blood for proteins- can not lays eggs.Viruses come into the salivary gland of

Diagnosis of Dengue fever Complete blood count. Not less than
RBC 39,00,000, WBC 4000, platelets 1,50,000
Antibodies detection. Tourniquet test- Cuff of BP app. 105
mm Hg (10-20 red spots/ sq inch).
Dr M Anees
Control of Dengue Sponge patient’s skin with cool water. Give paracetamol every 6 hours. Do not give aspirin. Liquids- fruit juices, ORS. Isolation of patients by nets. Complete bed rest. Platelet transfusion. Hospitalization.

Preventions of Dengue fever No vaccine is available- only by controlling
vectors. Proper dress. Mosquito repellents. Bed nets can help reduce exposure to
mosquitoes. Mosquitoes killers. Destruction of breeding sites. Biological control- e.g. fishes and certain bacteria. Public awareness
