1. Interpupillary line:
2. Alatragus line:
3. Nasolabial sulcus:
4. Labiomental sulcus:
5. Philtrum
6. Vermilion border:
7. Angle of the mouth
8. Modulus
Extra-oral
1. Interpupillary line:
Definition: it is an imaginary line extending
from the pupil of one eye to the other.
Importance: used for determining the occlusal
plane of the anterior teeth of the denture.
Extra-oral
2. Alatragus line:
Definition: it is an imaginary line
extending between the ala of the nose and
tragus of the ear.
Importance: it used for determining the
occlusal plane of the posterior teeth of the
denture.
Extra-oral
3. nasolabial sulcus:
Definition: it is a depression extending from
the side of the nose downwards and backwards.
Importance:
Becomes deeper with age
and with loss of teeth.
The replacement of teeth
should restore its normal
shape.
Extra-oral
4. labiomental sulcus:
Definition; a depression that runs horizontally between
the lower lip and the chin.
Importance: gives an indication about the relationship
between the mandible and the maxilla.

5. Philtrum:
Definition: diamond shaped area located at the center of
the upper lip.
Importance:
With anterior teeth loss it becomes flattened.
Replacing of the missing teeth should restore its normal
shape.
Extra-oral
6. Vermilion border:
Definition: it is the transitional epithilium between the mucous membrane of the
lip and the skin.
Importance:
It is improved by proper positioning of anterior teeth and thickening of the
labial flanges of the denture.
Extra-oral
7. angle of the mouth
Importance:
a. It becomes inflamed with
prolonged edentulous state
due to dripping of saliva
Treated by construction of a
denture at the proper V.D.O.
b. It lies opposite to the canines
for determination of the canine
line.
