DrumFillLessonPackWhatisadrumfill?Drumfillsareafunpartofdrummingthatgiveusadeparturefromourbeats.Theyservetofillaspaceinthemusicand/ormakeatransitionfromonepartofthesongtothenext.Oftenasdrummerswegetoverexcitedandfilltoomanyspacesinthemusic,orplayinappropriatefills.Thereforethelearningprocessisoneofbuildingavocabularyofgreatfillsinvaryingtempos,timesignaturesasndstylessothatwehavesomethingreadyforanygivensituation.Butthenaswedevelopexperiencewelearntomaketherightmusicalchoicestoplaysomethingthatservesthesongratherthanourego.Oftenasmall,subtlefillworksbetterthanthetwobar,32ndnote,doublebasdrumbeastthatwehavebeenlearningforthelastsixmonths!Thehardestapspectis……Oftenthehardestthingisnotthefillitselfbutmakingasmoothtransitionfromthebeatintothefill,andthenfromthefillbacktoabeat.Soonceyouhavelearnteachfillyoumustlearntoplayitinsequencewithabeateithersideofit.Aimforflawlesstransitionsatalltimes.Whatdowehaveinthislessonpack?Herewewilllearnarangeofdifferentfillsthatoucanusestraightfromthebox.Butdon’tforgetthateachfillcanbeorchestrated(movedaroundthekit)indifferentways.Sotakeeachideaanddevelopit.Becomefreewithit.Experiementandcreate.Tothatendwefinishwithadrumfillgeneratorconcept.Herewewilllearnsmallerrhytmicblocks.Wethenlookathowwecouldusedifferentblocksindifferentorderstocreatedifferentfills.Yourtaskistofinishbyusingtherhythmblockstocreateyourownfills.Onceyougetusedtothisyoucanmakeendlessfillsforever.Youcankeepcreatingnewideasandkeepyourideasfresh.Asyougetmoreconfidentyoucanimprovisetheseonthespotratherthanplanningthembeforeplaying.Atthatstageyouarefreetocreateinthemomentandthatisthebestplacetobeinmusic.Let’sgetstarted!
