Board of Management Meeting

Fiftieth meeting of Board of Management of Dr.YSRHU was

held at RARS, Chintapalli on 17.07.2018 under the chairman-

ship of Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor (FAC) &

Ex-Officio Secretary to Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. Hon’ble Vice-

chancellor and Members of Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU

visited the experimental plots and interacted with the scien-

tists at HRS, Chintapalli.

MoU

Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural University, Venkataramannagudem

entered into an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with

Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), New

Delhi on 19.07.2018.

Education

Exposure Visits

An exposure visit to the 2nd year students of CoH, Venkataramanna-

gudem to Vijayawada and its surrounding places as a part of practi-

cals in Course no. FCLS 2.3.2, Ornamental Horticulture was

conducted on 19.07.2018. The students were taken to Rajiv Gandhi

park, Avatar park and Vijayawada airport to observe the landscape

designing. Dr.T.Suseela, Associate Professor (Hort.) has coordinate

the programme.

Second year B. Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students of CoH, Ananthara-

jupeta on an exposure visited ornamental gardens at Airport,

Renigunta and S.V. Agricultural College, Municipal parks, and

RARS, Tirupati on 19.07.2018. Dr. K. Lalitha, Asst. Professor

(Agronomy) and Dr. Y. Deepthi Kiran, Asst. Professor (Agronomy)

has coordinated the programme.

Third year B. Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students of CoH, Ananatha-

rajupeta were taken on an exposure visit to Sri Sreenivasa

Ayurvedic College, Tirupati on 27.07.2018 as a part of their

course curriculum. Dr. K.M. Yuvaraju, Associate Professor (Hort)

and Smt. Thanuja Sivaram, Asst. Professor (Hort.) has

coordinate the programme.

Vanam-Manam

A massive plantation drive was conducted by the NSS unit of

CoH, Venkataramannagudem on 30.07.2018. Dr. A. Sujatha, Dean

of Student Affairs and NSS programme Co-ordinator inaugurated

the programme by planting guava seedlings near the boys hos-

tel. Dr.K. Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean, CoH, VRGudem, NSS pro-

gramme officers, Dr V. Sudha vani and Dr N. Emmanuel has coor-

dinated in organizing the camp. Teaching and Non-Teaching

staff, NSS volunteers have participated. Dean of student affairs addressed the gathering and high-

lighted the importance of trees and their role in controlling environmental pollution.

‘Vanam Manam’ programme was held at College of Horticulture,

Anantharajupeta on 21.07.2018 . The Associate Dean, Dr. M. Rama-

krishna, Teaching and Non-Teaching staff and the students of CoH,

A.R.Peta along with officers of Dept. of Forestry, Kadapa partici-

pated in the programme with a focus to protect environment. Dr. B.

Tanuja Priya, Unit I officer and Mr. A. Arunodayam, Unit II officer

have coordinated the programme. Dr. M.L.N. Reddy, Dean of Horticulture and Dr. M. Ramakrishna,

Associate Dean inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling in the college premises to mark

the occasion. Later, as a part of programme, one sapling was allotted to each student of 1st B.Sc

(Hons.) Horticulture to take care.

Dr. B.V.K Bhagavan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Kovvur

along with Dr.M.Lokanadham, Scientist (Pl. Path.), NRC, Banana have

conducted survey on banana diseases at Pulidindi, Atreyapuram and

Uchili villages on 24.07.2018.

Smt. T. Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Anantha-

rajupeta conducted an experiment on “Cost effective

management of post harvest anthracnose of mango by pre

and post harvest treatments” on Mango cv. Baneshan. The

results revealed that three sprays of hexaconazole (0.1%)

followed by hot water treatment (52°C for 10 min) was

found effective in managing anthracnose with lowest severity of 2 % and 10% incidence at 9th day

after treatment.

Severe infestation of papaya mealy bug was observed at HRS, Anantharju-

peta and in farmers’ fields in Kodur Division. The incidence was managed

by spraying neem oil @ 5 ml/l mixed with [email protected]/l.

Research

Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan

On 17.07.2018, Dr. V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK,

Vonipenta has attended Krishi Kalayan Abhiyan programme

organized by KVK, Utukur in collaboration with ATMA, Kadapa

district at Ganganapalli village of Kasinayana mandal. The scientist

explained about the best management practices in banana and

turmeric crops and importance of kitchen gardening followed by

participation in farmer – scientist interaction.

Training Programmes

Two seven days Training Programmes on “Scientific Bee Keeping” were conducted by Dr.YSRHU at

BCT, KVK, Haripuram, Visakhapatnam from 17.07.2018 to 23.07.2018 and at KVK, Utukur, Kadapa

from 20.07.2018 to 26.07.2018 for farmers/bee keepers selected from aspirational villages. The

programmes were sponsored by National Bee Board (NBB), Department of Agriculture,

Cooperation & Farmers Welfare (DAC & FW), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of

India, Funded under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) under Integrated

Bee Development Centre (IBDC). Twenty five farmers/bee keepers under each programme were

trained on Bee keeping as an income generating enterprise with minimum investment and mainte-

nance. Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension and Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs & PI along

with Dr.E.Karunasree attended the inaugural session of the programmes. Dr.A.Sujatha, PI & DSA

and Dr.K.Gopal, Controller of Examinations have attended the valedictory function and distributed

Ms. S.M.Sailaja, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Periyavaram has

attended a three days training programme as a resource person for

MPEO’S organized by Dept. of Agriculture on 28th July 2018 at

Veterinary Hospital, Gudur, Nellore dist. MPEO’S of three divisions,

Venkatagiri, Sullurpeta and Naidupeta were explained about the

practical issues in the cultivation acid lime and marigold.

On 17.07.2018, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted an off campus

training programme on ‘Importance of Nutritional Kitchen Garden,

how to prepare the beds and how to sow the seeds and benefits

regarding backyard kitchen garden’ etc at Vedurupaka village and

provided vegetable seed kits to the beneficiaries under FLD. Miss

Srividya Rani.N, Scientist (Extn.) and Sri.P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS

& AC) coordinated the programme and about 28 farmers have

participated.

On 18.07.2018, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted an on-campus

training programme on ‘Millet Production Technology’ to the

farmers of Maredumilli mandal. Sri.P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist

(SS&AC) explained about the cultivation aspects of major and

minor millets and also the advantages of improved practices such

as seed treatment, nursery raising, spacing, line sowing, manuring

etc. over their traditional practices such as broadcasting, direct

seeding, mixed cropping etc.

On 16.07.18, KVK, Vonipenta organized a training programme on

‘Nutritional kitchen garden and its importance to enhance

nutritional food security’ at KVK and distributed nutrition kitchen

garden seed kits to women and also explained the designs and

canopy wise plantation and creepers at borders.

On 19.07.2018 and 21.07.2018, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted

an off-campus training programmes on ‘Production Technology

of Improved Sorghum Cultivars in Agency Area’ at D.V.Kota and

Amirekula villages of Maredumilli and Rampachodavaram

mandals respectively. Dr. A. Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head, P.

Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC) and Miss. N. Sri Vidya Rani,

Scientist (Extn.) explained about integrated crop management

practices and provided improved sorghum cultivars such as CSV-27 & CSH-16 to 160 tribal farmers

on cluster approach under TSP-2018-19.

Dr. L.Mukunda Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.), CRS, Tirupati attended a

training programme as resource person on ‘Canopy management

and production technology of sweet orange’ at Chinthanalanka

village of Ainavilli mandal organized by Dept. of Horticulture, East

Godavari on 18.07.2018.

Dr. K. Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Venkataraman-

nagudem attended a training programme as a resource person

on ‘Sustainable agricultural practices’ at Reddygudem on

19.07.2018 organized by PARD, NGO, Buttaigudem mandal.

Dr. R. Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur attended a train-

ing programme on “Awareness programme on banana cultivation”

as resource person at Bommuvaripalem village of Kollipara mandal

and Sagguna Lanka village of Kollur mandal on 17.07.2018

organized by Department of Horticulture, Tenali Sub-Division. Later

visited various horticultural crops grown in the respective villages

and diagnosed nutrient deficiency symptoms in banana, turmeric, elephant foot yam and fungal as

well as viral diseases in banana, elephant foot yam and suggested remedial measures.

Dr. M. Raja Naik, Associate Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta

has attended a training program as a resource person on “Pasupu

saagulo padhatulu – samagra sasya rakshanapi raithu sikshana kar-

yakramamu” at Regional Horticultural Training Institute, Kadapa fol-

lowed by a turmeric field visit at Sidhout village on 22.07.2018.

Diagnostic Visits

Dr L. Mukunda Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. D.Srinivasa Reddy,

Scientist (Ento.) and V.Gopi, Technical Assistant, CRS, Tirupati visited

Venkatareddy palli village of Rly. Kodur mandal in Kadapa district for

collection of data under NICRA project on 21.07.2018.

On 19.07.18, Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK,

Periyavaram conducted diagnostic visit at Chapalapalle village of

Dakkili mandal. Recommended albendazole bolus @ 10 mg/kg body

weight single dose and increase in concentrate feeding in reduction in

feeding of coarse grasses for 3 days against diarrhea in two buffaloes.

On 19.07.2018 and 21.07.2018, Dr. A. Srinivas, Sr. Scientist & Head,

P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC) and N. Sri Vidya Rani, Scientist

(Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi has visited paddy variety MTU-1153

(Chandra) nursery which was 12 days old in Daravada village of

Maredumilli mandal. Observed stem borer symptoms and

suggested to apply carbofuran granules 3G@ 160 g /cent 7 days

before pulling up of the seedlings for transplanting in the main field.

On 26.07.2018 and 28.07.2018, P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC) and

Srividya Rani.N, Scientist (Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi has visited

paddy fields in Bandapalli village and paddy variety MTU-1153

(Chandra) nurseries at Sokulagudem village of Rampachodavaram

mandal. Observed white rolled tips of young leaves due to boron

deficiency in transplanted rice fields and recommended the farmers

to spray borax @ 0.1 % as foliar spray and also soil application @

3kg/ha during land preparation for once in every 2-3 years.

Method Demonstration

On 24.07.2018, KVK, Vonipenta conducted method demonstration

on value addition to papaya in Adireddypalli village of Mydukur

mandal. Smt. R. Suneetha, Research Associate (Home science)

explained the preparation of tuty fruity with unripe papaya peel

and also the benefits of papaya in diet and during lactation.

On 25.07.2018, KVK, Vonipenta demonstrated the preparation of

waste decomposer in farmers field at T. Kothapalli village. Dr. V.

Nagarjuna, Research Associate (Soil Science) and Smt. R. Suneetha,

Research Associate (Home science) demonstrated the preparation to

the farmers by mixing waste decomposer culture with @ 2 kg jaggery

in 200 l of water and also explained about the precautions to be taken

while preparation and application.

On-Farm Trials

Dr. R.V.S.K Reddy, Director of Extension has visited the colocasia fields

at Mannegunta village of Venkatagiri mandal on 21.07.2018, as a part

of OFT follow up visit taken up by Ms. S.M.Sailaja, Horticulture Re-

search Associate, KVK, Periyavaram. The crop was in 3-4 leaf stage and

the farmer was suggested to go for micronutrient spray for good health

and yield of the crop.

On 19.07.2018, Smt. R. Suneetha, Research Associate (Home

Science), KVK, Vonipenta, initiated OFT on triple layer hermetic

bags storage system to assess storage grain pest damage for house

hold purpose at Anganwadi center as these centers will get 3

months ration of rice and dhal and there is a problem of storage

pests.

On 18.07.2018, Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK, Pandirima-

midi addressed a group of members from Lee Kuan Yew school of

Public Policy Asia Competitiveness Institute-Singapore who visited

ITDA-Rampachodavaram to know the tribal development

activities in the agency area who also visited Cage Aquaculture at

Bhupatipalem Reservoir, interacted with tribal fishermen. The

team members were also explained about KVK activities with

ITDA-Cage culture, Honey bee units, Cashew grafting, Rubber Processing, Value addition, other

income generating activities & presented a brief note to the members. The Singapore members ap-

preciated KVK activities and expressed that they will support to strengthen the activities in future.

Front Line Demonstrations

On 21.07.2018, Dr. R.V.S.K Reddy, Director of Extension visited

KVK, Periyavaram and monitored the activities undertaken by

the Scientists. Also visited fodder field of a farmer at Periyava-

ram village who was supplied with Super Napier fodder cuttings

as part of OFT and distributed Area specific mineral mixture to

the farmer as part of FLD.

On 19.07.2018, vegetable seed kits were provided to the farmers by

KVK, Pandirimamidi in adopted villages, D.V.Kota and Dharwada of

Maredumilli mandal under Front Line demonstration on organic

cultivation of vegetables in nutritional kitchen garden. In this

programme Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head, Miss Srividya Rani.N,

Scientist (Extn.), Sri.P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS & AC), members

from Pragathi NGO and 38 farmers have participated.

On 17.07.18, 19.07.18 and 25.07.18, KVK, Vonipenta initiated the

FLD on INM in turmeric for correcting nutrient deficiency. KVK

scientists demonstrated the preparation of liquid biofertiliser

(Azospirillum and PSB @ 500 ml / acre in 20 l of water) solution are

mixed with FYM and applied in the turmeric field and also explained

about the importance, advantages and precautions to be taken while

using bio fertilizers.

On 26.07.2018, Dr. V. Nagarjuna, Research Associate (Soil Science),

KVK, Vonipenta has visited farmers field at Kesavapuram village of

Kasinayana mandal. The scientist visited redgram fields under CFLD

pulses under NFSM sponsored by ICAR- ATARI, Zone- X, Hyderabad.

On 27.07.2018, Smt. R. Suneetha, Research Associate (Home

Science), KVK, Vonipenta conducted sowing of vegetable seeds in

nutritional kitchen garden at KGBV school for girls in Mydukur

mandal. 9th class students aged 14 years were selected for this

activity. 40 Children were divided into 4 groups and allotted 3

vegetable crops to each group. Children have actively participated

in sowing and field preparation.

On 28.07.2018, Dr. V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK,

Vonipenta initiated new FLD on integrated nutrient management in

banana at Yerraballi village, Mydukur mandal. The scientist

explained the importance of recommend dose of fertilizer in banana

for getting higher yields.

General

Meetings

Dr. P.Subbaramamma, Asst. Prof (Pl. Phy), CoH, Venkataramanna-

gudem delivered a guest lecture on “ Impact of climate change on

agriculture” in one day workshop on ‘Climate change’ conducted by

Botany Department at VRS & YRN College, Chirala on 18.07.2018.

On 30.07.2018, Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agri. Extn.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem and Sri.G. San-

deep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta attended Action Plan Workshop cum training on

cluster FLDs on Pulses and Oilseeds at Agricultural Research station, Anantapuramu. In this

workshop, 21 KVKs have participated and presented the annual action plan and progress of

sowings in kharif of cluster FLDs on Pulses and Oilseeds.

Dr.A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem attended four

days training programme on ‘Installation and operation of FRP carp hatchery’ from 24.07.2018 to

27.07.2018 at CIFA, Bhubaneswar.

Dr. B.V.K Bhagavan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Dr.K. Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS,

Kovvur along with RHAWEP students of Pasivedala village attended Grama Darsini programme on

28.07.2018.

(Hort.), Dr. A. Snehalatha Rani, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur,

Dr. M.Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, V.R.Gudem and Dr.

Sarada, Sr. Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Lam participated in the

awareness programme on “Protected cultivation and nematode

infestation in polyhouses and shade net houses” at Vinukonda,

Guntur dist. on 16.07.2018. ShriDharmaja, DDH, Shri Subba Reddy, ADH, Smt. Sudha, ADH, other

department officials and polyhouse farmers from Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore and West

Godavari district have participated in the programme. General awareness about poly house

construction, management, cultivation of important crops, nematode infestation, symptoms and

management in nursery seedlings was created successfully.

Inspection

Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur along with Shri

Siva Kumar, Horticulture Consultant, West Godavari visited Govern-

ment General Hospital, Eluru on 21.07.2018 for inspection and to

record data on survival and establishment of avenue plantations,

block plantations, landscape works done by AP Urban Greening & BC.

Visits

Dr. A. Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs and Dr. K. Gopal, Controller of

Examinations visited CoH, Anantharajupeta on 25.07.2018 and

inspected the Departments of Entomology and Plant Pathology to

start PG and Doctoral programmes in the respected departments.

Further Dr. C. Madhumathi, Associate Dean i/c, along with university

officers visited hostels, library, new academic block and interacted

with the students.

ATMA farmers along with Block Technology manager visited CRS,

Tirupati under exposure visit programme on 27.07.2018 and Dr. L.

Mukundalakshmi, Scientist (Hort.) explained the nursery production

technology.

Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Sr. Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantapuramu

explained the performance of tamarind varieties i.e. Thettu Amalika,

Anantha Rudhira and vermicomposting activity to Sri. K.S. Viswana-

than, IAS, Trainee Collector, Anantapuramu along with Assistant

Project Director, APMIP and Horticultural Officer on 27.07.2018.

Twenty input dealers from Rayalaseema division visited CoH, Anan-

tharajupeta on 17.07.2018, as a part of their exposure visit under

DAESI (Diploma in Agricultural Education Service for Input dealers)

programme with their programme coordinator Dr. Yerram Reddy,

Professor, RARS, Tirupati . Dr. M. Rama Krishna, Associate Dean, Dr.

K. Swarajya Lakshmi, Associate Professor (Hort.) and Dr. M. Raja

Naik, Assoc. Professor (Hort.) explained them about the activities in

the campus.

SBVR Agricultural College, Badvel students visited CoH, Anan-

tharajupeta on 25.07.2018, as a part of their course curriculum.

Dr. K. Swarajya Lakshmi, Assoc. Prof (Hort.), Dr. M. Raja Naik,

Asst. Professor (Hort.) and Dr. B. Tanuja Priya, Asst. Professor

(Hort.) explained them about various activities in laboratories
