Events Republic Day Celebrations

Seventieth Republic Day was celebrated at Dr.Y.S.R. Horticultural University Campus and off campus

institutions on 26.01.2019. Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor & Ex-officio Secretary to

Govt. of A.P hoisted the National flag at administrative office of the university in the presence of Uni-

versity Officers, staff and students. Vice-Chancellor has given Republic Day message on this occasion

and stressed all to rededicate themselves to the development of the nation.

52nd meeting of Board of Management of Dr.YSRHU was held at

Head Quarters on 22.01.2019 under the chairmanship of Sri.

Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor & Ex-Officio

Secretary to Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.

Education

RHWEP Activities

KVK, Periyavaram conducted an exposure visit to Horticulture stall

in Flemingo Festival at Sullurpet, Nellore dist. on 22.01.2019 for

RHWEP students and were explained on different kinds of flower

arrangements and various fruits and vegetables grown in and

around Nellore dist. Horticulture officer explained about the

schemes in Horticulture Department. Ms. S.M.Sailaja, Research As-

sociate (Hort.), RHWEP incharge coordinated the programme.

Educational Tour

M.Sc. (Hort.) second year students of CoH, Venkataramannagudem

visited National Horticulture Fair-2019 at IIHR, Bengaluru on

24.01.2019 as part of Educational tour. Also visited International

Flower Auction Centre, Biodiversity International and Flower Show

at Lalbagh, Bengaluru on 25.01.2019. Sri M.Paratpara Rao, Assis-

tant Professor and Sri P. Vinay Kumar Reddy, Assistant Professor

coordinated the programme.

Third year UG students of CoH, Venkataramannagudem visited the

Gram Panchayat and Co-operative Society of Kommugudem and

Gram Panchayat of Venkataramannagudem from 18.01.2019 to

19.01.2019 and have taken up PRA Techniques like village mapping,

mobility mapping, resource mapping, venn diagram and secondary

data collection.

Final year ELP students of CoH, Anantharajupeta were taken to

“Kala Nimbu” acid lime processing unit at Chinaorampadu village,

Obulavaripalli mandal on 25.01.2019. Kala Nimbu is a dried

product of acid lime which is having a shelf life of 2-3 years, with

good export potential.

Guest Lecture

Guest lecture was delivered by Sri Maneesh Prem Chandra,

Branch Manager, IDP Education India Private Limited,

Vijayawada on “Opportunities for higher education in abroad (MS

and Ph.D)” on 31.01.2019. UG and PG students have participated

in the programme and got clarified their doubts regarding higher

studies.

Research Dr.D.Salomi Suneetha, Professor (Biochem), CoH, Venkataramanna-

gudem developed the protocol for in vitro tissue culture of Gerbera

jamesonii from unopened flower buds at the Tissue culture labora-

tory, CoH, Venkataramannagudem. The first plant was shifted to the

field on 26.01.2019.

Extension Farmers, Departmental Officers and Scientists Interaction Meeting

Farmers, Departmental officers and sci-

entists interaction meeting was con-

ducted at KVK, Venkataramannagudem

on 19.01.2019. In this program more

than 200 farmers have participated. In

this program Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary,

IFS, Vice-Chancellor & Ex-officio Secretary to Govt. of A.P has participated as chief guest along with

university officers Dr.M.L.N.Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr.R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension,

Dr.A. Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs and Sri. T.V. Subbarao, DDH, West Godavari district. .

Training Programmes

On 19.01.2019, KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted Assess-

ment Test, viva – voce and practical demonstration for the trainees

(20 nos.) who attended 25 days Skill Development Training

Programme (SDTP) on “Beekeeping” in coordination with Agri-

cultural Skill Council of India (ASCI) and ICAR-ATARI, Hyderabad.

In valedictory function Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS,

Vice-Chancellor & Ex-officio Secretary to Govt. of A.P as chief guest

distributed certificates to the trainees. Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension, Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean

of Student Affairs, Dr.M.L.N.Reddy,Dean of Horticulture and Dr.E.Karunasree, Principal Scientist &

Head, KVK, Venkataramannagudem have explained about the importance of honeybees as pollina-

tors and formation of FPOs. Practical manual on “Beekeeping as an Microenterprise” was released

by the dignitaries and distributed to the trainees.

Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist, (Hort.) and Dr.N.B.V.

Chalapathi Rao, Principal Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta,

Dr. K. Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur and

Dr.P.Ashok, Sr. Scientist (Hort.), HRS, V.R.Gudem participated

in one day training programme on “Management of Rugose

spiraling whitefly” at Kalavalapalli (V) of West Godavari

district organized by Department of Horticulture on 22.01.2019. Sri.Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-

Chancellor & Ex-officio Secretary to Govt. of A.P was the chief guest and Dr. J. Dilip Babu, Director of

Research has also participated.

On 19.01.2019, KVK, Periyavaram conducted training

programme on “ICT Applications in Agriculture” to the farmers of

Venkatagiri mandal. Nearly 28 farmers have attended. Created

awareness on Mobile Apps, WEB Portals, Information KIOSKs.

etc., related to Agriculture and allied sectors. Mr. D. Vinod Naik,

Research Associate (Agril. Extn.) coordinated the programme.

Dr. P. Deepthi, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Anantapuramu attended a

training programme as resource person for farmers at RHTI, Ananta-

puramu organized by Department of Horticulture on 25.01.2019.

On 30.01.2019, KVK, Vonipenta conducted an on campus

training programme on “Precautions to be taken in Usage of

Pesticides (Safe Use of Pesticides” at KVK, Vonipenta. Sri. G. San-

deepNaik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.) and Sri E. Ravi Goud, Research

Associate (Agri. Extn.) explained about precautions to be taken

while purchase of pesticides, during storage, handling, prepara-

tion of spray solution, selection of equipments, application of

spray solution, after spray operations and usage of protective clothing.

Dr. P. Rama Devi, Sr. Scientist (Pl. Path) & Head, Dr. P. Ashok, Sr.

Scientist (Hort.) and Smt. N. Janaki Ratnam, R.A. (Pl. Path.), HRS,

Venkataramannagudem attended two days training progamme

on “Organic farming focussing on bio-fertilizers and bio-

pesticides” at Samalkot and explained the use of bio-fertilizers

and bio pesticides to department officers on 28.01.2018.

On 28.01.2019, Sri G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkatara-

mannagudem attended a training programme as a resource person

on ‘Beekeeping’ organised by Regional Horticultural Training

Institute (RHTI), Gopannapalem at Buttaigudem village and

explained about scientific beekeeping practices.

Dr. R. Nagaraju, Principal Scientist (Hort.), Sri D. Sreedhar, Scientist

(Hort.) and T. Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Pl. Path.) and Dr. Y.Sharat

Kumar Reddy, Scientist (Pl. Physiology), HRS, Anantharajupeta

imparted training to AO’s & MPEO’s on cultivation practices and

plant protection measures on major Horticultural crops grown in

Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh organized by Dept. Of

Horticulture and explained about production technologies of Mango, Guava and papaya viral

diseases and other flower crops on 29 .01.2019.

Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Principal Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Amba-

jipeta participated in awareness meeting on ‘Rugose spiralling

whiterfly’ as resource person at K. Gangavaram village of

Ramachandrapuram mandal and created awareness on rugose spi-

ralling whitefly and its control measures to the farmers on

21.01.2019.

On 21.01.2019, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted training program

on ‘Improved management practices in cashew’ sponsored by

ATMA, Kakinada at Neelavaram village of Gangavaram mandal. Dr.

A. Srinivas Principal Scientist & Head, Dr. S.Adarsha Scientist

(Ento.), Sri P. Raja Sekhar Scientist (SS&AC) and Sri Vidya Rani. N,

Scientist (Agri. Extn.) explained about the importance of applica-

tion of micronutrients and plant protection measures in cashew. Representatives from Tanager

NGO and 20 farmers have participated in the program.

Scientists of HRS, Ambajipeta Conducted one day district level

seminar on ‘Cocoa’ at Tetagunta village, Tuni mandal of East

Godavari district on 24.01.2019 sponsored by Directorate of

Cocoa and Cashew nut Development, Kochi. The scientists

delivered lectures on production and protection technologies of

cocoa followed by field visit, where in demonstrated the pruning

technique and identification of pest & diseases at field level and their management.

Scientists of Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta conducted

6 days on campus skill training programme for 20 nos. unem-

ployed rural youth (23rd batch) with the financial assistance of

Coconut Development Board (CDB), Kochi from 28.01.2019 to

02.02.2019. Imparted skills on climbing coconut trees with the

help of climbing device and also taught scientific management

practices on production, protection and quality planting material production.

Dr. R. Nagaraju, Principal Scientist (Hort.), Dr. T. Naga Lakshmi,

Scientist (Pl. Path.) and Dr. Y.Sharat Kumar Reddy, Scientist (Pl.

Physiology), HRS, Anantharajupeta involved in a training pro-

gramme organized by KVK, RASS, Tirupati and imparted training for

two batches on propagation techniques in ornamental and fruit

crops and biocontrol aspects on 22.01.2019.

On 31.01.2019, Sri G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.) and Dr.K.Venkata

Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted

training programme on brinjal as a part of Farmer Field Schools

(FFS) on production of pesticide residue free vegetables (brinjal

and okra) at Busarajupalli village and explained about fertilization

and importance of IPM tools in AESA. Also conducted Agro – Eco-

system Analysis (AESA) in Brinjal.

Diagnostic Visits

Ms. S.M. Sailaja, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK,

Periyavaram visited tuberose fields infested with

blight at Kalampalli village of Kalahasti mandal on

21.01.2019 and suggested to spray saff @ 2.5gm/l

water to control the disease.

On 25.01.2019, Mr. D. Vinod Naik, Research Associate (Agril. Extn.),

KVK, Periyavaram visited bitter gourd field at Balayyapalli village

and observed fruitfly infestation and suggested to spray malathion

50 Ec 1ml/l or dimethoate 30 Ec 1ml/l or methyl demeton 25 EC

1ml/l and advised to raise the crop on pandals for high yield and

quality produce.

On 28.01.2019, Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK,

Periyavaram conducted diagnostic visit to poultry farm at Manne-

gunta village of Venkatagiri mandal and observed weak birds with

bloody droppings. The condition was diagnosed as coccidiosis and

the farmer was suggested to immediately administer powder am-

prolium in drinking water @30g/25 l of drinking water along with

supplementation of vimeral for better immunity. Also suggested to

check for water sanitation as the source of infection is usually con-

taminated water.

On 30.01.2019, Ms. Ch. Sindu, Research Associate (Home

Science), KVK, Periyavaram visited Dye processing units and

screen printing units in Boggulamitta village of Venkatagiri

mandal. Observed the activities carried out by dyers and printing

units and also conducted survey on occupational health hazards

faced by dyers during processing.

Dr. M. Tagore Naik, Sr.Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Mahanandi conducted filed visit in Thimmapuram and

Bukkapuram villages on 21.01.2019 and observed the drumstick pod fly and jasmine midge

incidence and suggested application dichlorovas @ 1ml/l against pod fly and application of kor-

agen @ 0.3 ml/l against midge for controlling above pests.

On 25.01.2019, G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.) and B.Rupadevi, Research Associate

(Soil Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted diagnostic visit to coconut

orchard at Pulla village, Nallajerla mandal infested with spiralling whitefly, rhinoc-

eros beetle and boron deficiency and suggested suitable remedial measures.

On 31.01.2019, Dr.S.Adarsha Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirima-

midi attended a training programme as resource person on ‘Pest

and disease management in chillies’ at Kothulagutta village of

Kunavaram mandal organized by Department of Horticulture,

Rajamahendravaram.

On 17.01.2019, Dr. V. Nagarjuna, Research associate, (Soil Science)

and Dr. V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Vonipenta

visited banana fields for followup under FLD “Enhancing banana

bunch yield through application of N, K and S in Banana” at Sunkula-

garipalli village of Mydukur mandal. The scientist demonstrated the

preparation of 2 % KNO3 and 2 % Micronutrient mixture and also

explained about the spraying method to the farmer.

On 18.01.2019, Sri G. SandeepNaik, Scientist (Pl. Path.) and Dr. V.

Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Vonipenta visited

tuberose field for diagnosis of pests and diseases at Obulapuram vil-

lage of Mydukur mandal. Observed mealy bug infestation and sug-

gested to spray profenophos @ 0.1% or dichlorvos @ 0.05%.

On 24.01.2019, Dr. V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK,

Vonipenta visited chilli field for diagnosis of pests and diseases at Mita-

manupalli village of Mydukur mandal and identified powdery mildew.

Recommended to spray wettable sulphur @ 0.3% or kerathane @

0.1%.

On 25.01.2019, Dr. V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK,

Vonipenta visited chilli nursery for diagnosis of pests and diseases at

Musalinayanapalli village of Mydukur mandal. Identified damping off

disease and recommended to spray copper oxy chloride @ 0.3%

On 30.01.2019, Sri G. SandeepNaik, Scientist (Pl. Path.) and Dr. V.

Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Vonipenta visited

tomato and chilli fields for diagnosis of pests and diseases at Sun-

kulagariPalli village of Mydukur mandal. Identified pinworm (Tuta

absoluta ) infestation in tomato and dieback disease in chilli and

suggested to collect and destroy the pinworm affected plants and

fruits, avoid solanaceous crops after tomato and spray chlorantraniliprole @ 60 ml or flubendia-

mide @ 60 ml per acre and to spray difenconazole @ 0.05% or propiconazole @ 0.1% respectively.

On 28.01.2019, Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science),

KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited dairy flock at Venkataramanna-

gudem village and observed diarrhoea, inappetence, soil licking

symptoms in one month old buffalo calf and suggested treatment

with Pul.Neblon @25 g/day, Tab. Dirolin-L@ 2 boli/day and piperz-

ine hydrate liquid@20 ml orally.

Dr. Ch. Ruth, Professor (Pl. Path) along with ELP students, CoH,

Anantharajupeta visited betel vine and banana fields at Obu-

lavaripalli village of Kadapa dist on 28.01.2019 and observed foot

rot disease in betel vine. Suggested to spray Bordeaux mixture

1% or redomil 0.2%.

On 23.01.2019, Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science),

Dr.A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science) and Sri

G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited

dairy farm at Kurusakannappagudem village and observed tick

infestation in four months old buffalo calf and suggested treatment

with inj.Ivermectin@ 10mg/50 Kg.b.wt, S/c and external applica-

tion of butox solution @2ml/l water. On the same day made followup visit to aseel birds enterprise

at East Regulakunta and observed the health condition of birds.

On 31.01.2019, Sri K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.) and Sri

P.Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited acid

lime and banana fields at Thimmapuram village of Addateegala

mandal and observed acid lime trees affected with root rot, canker

and powdery mildew. Suitable measures were recommended to

the farmers for effective management of diseases and basal appli-

cation of urea and potash (50 g each/plant) (upto 50%) for ba-

nana.

Dr. Ch. Ruth, Professor (Pl. Path) along with PG students, CoH, Anan-

tharajupeta visited mango garden at Venkatareddy Palli, village of

Kadapa dt on 23.01.2019 and observed anthracnose, sootymold and

sucking pests. Suggested to spray carbendazim 1g. + neem oil 5ml/l

of water. In Neelum variety observed black banded disease and gum-

mosis on branches and recommended to spray Bordeaux mixture

1% or copperoxychloride 0.3%.

On Farm Trial

Ms. S.M.Sailaja, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Periyavaram con-

ducted a follow-up visit to colocasia crop at Mannegunta village of

Venkatagiri mandal on 19.01.2019 and gathered the information about

yield and other economic aspects of colocasia variety KCS-3 in compari-

son with local variety. The varietal performance in aspects like corm

size and yield was found superior to local variety.

On 24.01.2019, Dr. J.V. Prasad, Principal Scientist, ATARI, and Dr.

M. Nagesh, Principal Scientist-NBAIR visited OFT on Fall Army

Worm trial at KVK, Pandirimamidi and collected NPV affected lar-

vae and nomuraea affected FAW larvae from the trial plots for fur-

ther studies. Dr.A.Srinivas Principal Scientist & Head and Dr.

S.Adarsha Scientist (Ento.) coordinated the program.

On 24.01.2019, Dr. V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK,

Vonipenta visited marigold OFT trial “Introduction of Marigold variety

– Arka Bangara-2” for followup at Mitamanupalli Village of Mydukur

mandal. During the visit Scientist observed flower eating caterpillar

and recommended foliar application of carbaryl @ 0.3%.

Front Line Demonstrations

On 28.01.2019, KVK, Vonipenta provided inputs like azospirillum @ 2

Kgs and PSB @ 2 Kgs per acre under FLD “Application of Biofertilizers

in Chillies to enhance crop yield”. Sri. G. SandeepNaik, Scientist, (Pl.

Path.) and Dr. V. Nagarjuna, Research Associate (SS & AC) explained

about the importance of biofertilizers in enhancing crop yields,

method of application and precautions to be taken while application

of biofertilizers.

On 30.01.2019, Dr. V. Nagarjuna, Research Associate (SS & AC) and

Smt R. Sunitha, Research Associate (Home science), KVK,

Vonipenta conducted FLD on Assessment of waste decomposer

culture for recycling of turmeric and banana crop residues at T.

Kothapalli village. The scientists emphasized the importance of

waste decomposer application for recycling of crop residues and

also explained about the preparation of waste decomposer solu-

tion.

On 31.01.2019, G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.) and Dr.K.Venkata

Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted

diagnostic visit in groundnut fields at Nimmalagudem village under

CFLDs on oilseeds and observed infestation of leaf miner, spodptera

and tikka leaf spot. Suggested to install pheromone traps @ 4/acre,

foliar application of flubendamide @ 0.2 ml/l against spodoptera

and leaf miner, spraying of mancozeb @ 2 g and Carbendazim @ 1 g/l or hexaconozole @ 2 ml/l or

tebuconazole @ 1 ml/l against tikka leaf spot.

On 29.01.2019, KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted training pro-

gramme on ‘Integrated crop management in sesame’ at Telikicherla

village and explained about pest and disease management in sesame.

Later supplied critical inputs to the farmers under CFLD on oilseeds

sponsored by ICAR – ATARI, Zone – X, Hyderabad. Sri G.Shali Raju,

Scientist (Ento.) coordinated the programme.

On 28.01.2019, KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted training

programme on ‘Integrated crop management practices for

blackgram var. TBG-104’ to Takkelapudi farmers, Dwarakatiru-

mala mandal under cluster front Line demonstrations on pulses

and distributed critical inputs viz., neem soap and Pursuit chemi-

cal. Sri. Rupa Devi, Research Associate (SS&AC) coordinated the

programme.

On 31.01.2019, Sri. G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), &

Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.), KVK,

Venkataramannagudem visited OFT trail on

‘Integrated Crop Management in Chilli (varieties –

LCA - 616 & CA – 960)’. LCA – 616 variety was highly

accepted by the farmers in terms of colour, size and

pungency and also preferred by the consumers in retail market.

Method Demonstrations

On 21.01.2019, Dr.A.Srinivas, Principal Scientist & Head,

Dr. S.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), Sri P. Raja Sekhar Scientist

(SS&AC) and Sri Vidya Rani. N, Scientist (Agri. Extn.) conducted

method demonstration on use of pongamia soap for the manage-

ment of T-mosquito bug in cashew. Provided pongamia soap and

micronutrient mixture to 20 beneficiaries.

Soil Samples Collection

On 19.01.2019, Dr. V. Nagarjuna, Research Associate, (Soil Sci-

ence) and Sri. E Ravi Goud, Research Associate, (Agri. Extn.), KVK,

Vonipenta collected soil samples from farmer’s field at Somired-

dypalli and Vonipenta villages of B.Mattam and Mydukur mandals

respectively. The scientists explained the importance of soil and

water analysis and also demonstrated the collection of soil sam-

ple.

General

National Horticultural Fair-2019

From 23.01.2019 to 25.01.2019, Scientists of KVK, Venkataraman-

nagudem and Pandirimamidi participated in “National Horticultural

Fair-2019” organized by ICAR-IIHR at Bengaluru and put up a stall

of Dr.YSRHU exhibiting different crop varieties, dried & processed

products of fruits and vegetables, posters showing different activi-

ties carried out. Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension, Dr.M.L.N.

Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr.E.Karuna Sree, Principal Scientist &

Head, Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.) and Sri. K.C.Bhanu Murthy, Scientist (Hort.) have at-

tended. Scientists, farmers and students visited our stall and observed different exhibits we dis-

played.

Meetings

On 28.01.2019, Mr. D. Vinod Naik, Research Associate (Agril. Extn.),

KVK, Periyavaram attended Regional advisory Group Meeting

themed as “Climate Change in Nellore District and Adaptations of

Climate Change” conducted by NABARD. Representatives from ARS,

KVK, NGOs, DAATC, ATMA and Primary Sector Departments have

attended the meeting and discussed about Climate change and ad-

aptations in Nellore District.

Dr. V. Vijaya Bhaskar, Professor (Hort.), Dr. K.M.Yuvaraj, Professor (Hort.), Dr. V.N.P. Sivarama

Krishna, Assoc. Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta participated in 8th Indian Horticulture Con-

gress at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vigyana Kendra, Raipur, Chattisgarh organized by Horticulture Society

of India from 17th -21st January, 2019.

Dr. R. Nagaraju, Principal Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Anantharajupeta deliv-

ered a guest lecture on “ Impact of climate on cut flowers under cover”

to PG and Ph.D students of Floriculture and land scaping at Tamil Nadu

Agricultural University, Coimbatore on 25.01.2019.

Dr. K. Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. R.Nagalakshmi,

Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur participated in foundation stone laying

ceremony of ICAR-DFR regional station, Vemagiri on 21.01.2019.

During the meeting interacted with farmers and Scientists of DFR,

Pune, IIOPR, Pedavegi and CTRI, Rajahamundry.

Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist, (Hort.), HRS, Ambajipeta at-

tended one day training programme on “Testing Modified Ground

Pollination in coconut” at ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayanku-

lam, Kerala on 18.01.2019.

Dr. K. Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur attended

seminar on “Orchids” organized by AP Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation at Andhra

Pradesh State Water Resources Department and Farmers Training Centre, Vijayawada on

27.01.2019 and delivered lecture on “Commercial Cultivation of Dendrobium Hybrids in protected

structures”.

Post Graduate students of Floriculture and Landscaping Architecture Department, CoH, V.R.Gudem

along with the faculty, Dr.A.V.D.Dorajee Rao, Professor and Dr.T.Suseela, Associate Professor

attended one day national seminar on “Orchids-Problems and prospects” at PWD Grounds,

Vijayawada on 27.01.2019. The Programme was technically resourced by Royal Botanical Gardens,

Kew, London.

Visits

On 22.01.2019, Block Technology Managers and Assistant Technol-

ogy Managers of ATMA, Nellore visited KVK, Pandirimamidi. In this

programme Dr.A.Srinivas, Prinicipal Scientist & Head addressed the

staff regarding the activities of KVK, Pandirimamidi. Also visited

HRS and Palmyrah Processing Unit. KVK, Scientist explained about

the Bee-Keeping unit and Biscuit making unit. In this programme

Smt. Y.Ananda Kumari, PD, ATMA DPD, ATMA and 25 BTMs and ATMs participated.

On 24.01.2019, Dr.J.V.Prasad, Principal Scientist, ATARI, Zone-X,

Hyderabad along with Dr.M.Nagesh, Principal Scientist, NBAII,

Bengaluru have visited instructional farm of KVK, V.R.Gudem and

Pandirimamidi to review of demonstrations on Fall Army Worm

management in maize. During the visit KVK, Pandirimamidi has

provided four goat units to the tribal farmers of Regulapadu,

I.Polavaram, Gangavaram villages of Rampachodavaram division of East Godavari district under the

component of Tribal Sub Plan – 2017-18.

Dr.Krishna, Professor, Central Food Technological Research Insti-

tute (CSIR-CFTRI), Mysore, Karnataka along with his team visited

PHTRS, Venkataramannagudem on 22.01.2019. Dr. D.V. Swami,

Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head explained about the functioning

of processing machinery and value added products prepared at

fruit and vegetable processing unit.

On 30.01.2019, KVK, Venkataramannagudem scientific staff, Dr. K.

Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scien-

tist (Veterinary Science) explained about different demonstration

plots of KVK to the farmers from Anakapalli who visited on an expo-

sure visit. In this visit, 40 farmers have participated along with their

Horticulture officer.

A batch of 10 farmers from Nagari, Puttur mandal visited the

CoH, Anantharajupeta on 28.01.2019. Dr. K.Swarajya Lakshmi,

Prof (Hort.), Dr. G.Thanuja Sivaram, Asst. Prof (Hort.), Miss Lak-

shmi Prasanna TA, (Agri. Extn.) and Mr. K. Ravi Kumar, TA

(Hort.) have taken them to the fields and explained about the

commercial cultivation of various Horticultural crops that are

being grown in the campus. The exposure visit was organized by ATMA, Chittoor district.

National Voters Day

On 25.01.2018, National Voters Day was celebrated at CoH,

Venkataramannagudem and SKPP Horticultural Polytechnic,

Ramachandrapuram. A rally with the slogans like Right to Vote

-Use it Right, Proud to be voter-Ready to Vote was conducted

by students of SKPP Horticultural Polytechnic,

Ramachandrapuram. Essay

writing, Elocution and Poster

making competitions were conducted on different themes viz.,

“National Voters day-Power of every single vote”, “ Importance of

voter in Indian Democracy” and “ No voter to be left” at CoH,

Venkataramanangudem.

On 22.01.2019, Smt.Kothapalli Geetha, Member of Parliament,

Araku Constituency visited KVK, Pandirimamidi. Dr. A.Srinivas,

Principal Scientist & Head briefed about the activities of KVK. M.P

interacted with the farmers regarding the problems faced by them

and expressed that the activities taken up by KVK are useful to the

tribals. Also visited the exhibition arranged by KVK, apiary unit, soil

testing laboratory, cashew nursery, cage culture, custom hiring centre, goatery units. etc. KVK,

Scientists and 65 farmers have attended the programme.

Silence Day

Silence day was celebrated by students of SKPP Horticultura Poly-

technic, Ramchandrapuram on 30.01.2019 to pay homage to the vic-

tims who fought for the freedom, welfare and progress of India and

sacrificed their lives. Sri M. Satti Raju, Principal was the chief guest.

Pariksha Pe Charcha 2.0

Live telecast on ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha 2.0’ for exam stress reduction

was arranged by CoH, Venkataramannagudem at 11:00 AM on

29.01.2019 in which Sri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of

India has interacted with the students and parents about studies and

examination related issues and advised the parents not to expect their

children to fulfil their unfulfilled dreams. Dr.M.Lakshmi Narayana

Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr.K.Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean, staff and students of CoH, Venkatara-

mannagudem have attended.

Dr.C.Venkata Ramana, Sr.Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Lam attended Phone-in-Live programme on

‘Mirapalo kaya kotha mariyu kotha ananthara yajamanyam’ at Doordarshan Kendra, Vijayawada on

17.01.2019.

Dr.K.Giridhar, Sr.Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Lam attended Phone-in-Live programme on ‘Pasupulo kotha

mariyu kotha ananthara yajamanyam’ at Doordarshan Kendra, Vijayawada on 28.01.2019.

Radio Programmes

Dr. K. Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur attended a recording on “Pasupu Saagu-

Seetakalamulo chepatta valasina yajamanya paddatulu” at All India Radio, Vijayawada on

28.01.2019.

Awards

Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural University received 2nd prize for the Best Stall in

universities category at National Horticultural Fair-2019 held from 23rd

-25th January, 2019 at ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru.

Superannuation

Sri Ch.Gangachalam, AEO, HRS, Ambajipeta retired on 31.01.2019 on

attaining superannuation. Staff of HRS, Ambajipeta felicitated him on

this occasion.
