Your green waste collectionsThe council will be operating its popular kerbside green garden waste

collection service from Monday 22 April to Friday 29 November.

This year the council has reviewed the ser vice and as a result will not be

providing residents with two free sacks for the storage of their green garden

waste however these can still be purchased for 1 each from any library.

From this year you can use standard refuse sacks as long as they are no

larger than the clear garden waste sacks.

Please note that the council will not replace bags that are damaged,

    lost or stolen.

The number of sacks of green waste that residents can place out for collection

has been increased from 6 to 10.

Please do not tie or s eal sacks, and remember to place them out forcollection by 7am on your collection day.

Any sacks of green garden waste which are contaminated with other rubbish,

or are too heavy to lift will not be collected.

We cannot accept animal bedding with your green garden waste as it

compromises the quality of the compost produced.

Please do not include windfall fruit such as apples in your green waste

collection, these can be recycled in your food waste caddy.

Any additional green garden waste can be taken to your local househol d reuse

    and recycling centre:

Your recycling collections- now we all need to take partYou can now recycle more than ever beore in Croydon and thanks to many o

you our recycling rates have climbed to over 45%, which is antastic.

However, there are still too many people who are not recycling at all, and

this is one o the reasons why council tax has had to go up slightly this year.

That is why we have decided that the best way o protecting vital services

and avoiding unnecessary uture council tax increases is to make recycling

compulsory. This will save local taxpayers 200,000 a year.

I you are already recycling all you can you dont need to change anything. But i

you dont recycle, now is defnitely the time to start, and i you live in a house all

you will need are green and blue recycling boxes along with a ood caddy. I you

dont already have these please let us know and we will get some delivered to you.

I we think that a household isnt recycling they may soon receive a visit rom

a recycling awareness ofcer. These initial visits will ocus on education andencouragement to make sure people understand how important recycling is.

However people who continue to not recycle may, as a last resort, receive a

    fxed penalty notice o 80.

    How to use the service

Please place your recycling boxes and food caddy at the access point to your

property by 7amon the day of collection. They should be no more than two metres

from the access point from the pavement. Please note that your landll bin and

recycling boxes should not be stored on the pavement.

You can have up to ve recycling boxes of each colour; if

you require any additional boxes or external food caddies,

please contact us to arrange for extras to be delivered.

You do not have to line your kitchen caddy, but if you

choose to you can use either newspaper or kitchen roll,

or an approved compostable food waste liner.

Please look for the following logos when buying liners

    Visitwww.croydon.gov.uk/oodwasteliners or call

020 8726 6200 for information about supermarketsstocking liners. Liners are stocked at all libraries in the borough.

If you nd you are struggling to get all of your waste into your landll bin,

please consider what you are putting into it. You will soon nd your bin

slim if you avoid buying more food than you need, purchase things with less

    packaging and recycle everything.

Please do not place your kitchen ood caddy inside your external

    caddy on collection day.
