Trail Ride at Ray Brown’s Property, Mt Pilot Sat 19th & Sun 20th August

During the days leading up to our weekend trail ride, the weather wasn’t very invi�ng. Eleven riders took the chance of a be� er weather forecast and were definitely rewarded for doing so.

We rode the beau�ful tracks at the foothills of Mt. Pilot and arrived to a welcoming lunch prepared and cooked by our great Commi� ee member and friend Dave Fearne. Thanks very much Dave.

A� er lunch, it was �me to exercise our own legs. We walked to the top of Mt. Pilot and took in the spectacular views. This was followed by riding cross country on the way back … with a few exci�ng moments. Georgie’s li� le Poppy thought he would become a brumby and run back into the bush!!

Back to the camp for some tea and drinks and campfire, then dessert of yummy golden syrup dumplings made by Viann. A big thanks goes to Ray and Rosemary Brown for use of their property and ameni�es.

Novelties, Sun 27th August

The day started well – cool, overcast and clear of rain - and despite a slow roll up of riders we ended with a strong con�ngent from UMHA and the Kergunyah Pony Club. The enthusiasm of riders and parents did not wane despite the rain and sleet which fell during the day. Thanks to all the helpers on the day for scoring, penciling, se� ng up and then packing up. Our Club Secretary posi�on is vacant and UMHA urgently needs to fill this key role to support the opera�on of our club. I am appealing to all members to consider ‘pu� ng their hand up’ and becoming part of our successful team. Our club is vibrant and cohesive, with 20 commi� ee members, suppor�ng Co-ordinators and 273 members. Key responsibili�es include: ∗ Club correspondence - mostly to members and stakeholders ∗ Preparing minutes of mee�ngs and organising the AGM … but the role can be more than this. Gerogery Horse Sports Complex is proving a popular venue with record entries in all events—Arena Sor�ng, Speed Yarding and Stockman’s Challenge. Arena Sor�ng a� racted an addi�onal 30 teams, with similar increase for Team Yarding. This was a very pleasing outcome for all involved in organising and running the event. Saturday �cked off with Arena Sor�ng; spirits were high for most teams, but no so with the scores. Col Ellis supplied the Angus ca� le which proved to be too tough for most- s�cky and very unwilling. As a result only four teams managed to sort their 10 head. Congratula�ons to the winners and placege� ers. Weisner Stockhorse Challenge followed and most certainly entertained the spectators with a lot of new obstacles. I received comments like “Don’t you sleep very well Sid?” and “You’re one sick puppy and have a sick sense of humour Wilson!” They just don’t make cowboys like they used to, aye! Nevertheless all 39 challengers survived the course with mixed scores.

Prize money was donated by Weisners Wodonga. Congratula�ons to all! Sunday was wild and windy for the Team Yarding. Col Ellis supplied the ca� le once again. We thank you Col for your ongoing support. Without ca� le, there is NO show! Slower �mes were recorded due to the rough handling rule and ca� le being s�rred by the windy condi�ons. However, most riders yarded their ca� le in reasonable �me which resulted in a good weekend for all. Congratula�ons to the winners and placege� ers. We would like to thank the large roll up of volunteers who helped out at both Tallanga� a and Gerogery –loading, unloading and se� ng up panels in readiness for our compe��on. It is a big job manhandling the panels on and off the truck and se� ng up! We would also like to thank our judges, pencilers, �mekeepers, ca� le handlers, commentators, Reece Murray and all who helped out over the weekend for the enjoyment of all It is a huge task, too big for just a few. Gerogery Horse Sports Development Commi� ee are working towards removing the old cable and felt fencing, and replacing with ca� le panels similar to those used at the UMHA Arena at Tallanga� a. The Commi� ee are seeking anyone who may be interested in adop�ng one or maybe more panels at a price yet to be determined. These panels will be fi� ed with a plaque bearing the adoptee’s name, or a larger sign bearing a business name etc. as adver�sing. The price per panel will be determined by the cost of a panel and sign or plaque. If you are interested in adop�ng a panel, please contact Sid Wilson on 0427 718 640.
