The Drafting program allows students to learn to take ideas and bring them to life through an exacting process in the construction and manufacturing fields. The program provides students with the knowledge and skills that can help graduates enter into the drafting and design field. If you are creative and are interested in how things are built, you may have a knack for drafting and design. Skills taught include creating drawings, plans and computer models. What are the classes about? • Create drawings for structural, civil, electrical, and electronic schematic drafting with AutoCAD software • Complete drawings using orthographic projection, points of view, and shape descriptions • Learn the techniques of lettering, and recognize the lines used in mechanical and architectural drawings as well as the representation of math operations in drafting • Understand the use of drafting vocabulary, geometry, and instruments in the layout of drafting problems and geometric designs • Understand the capabilities, applications, and development of AutoCAD and use it to draw basic objects using lines, circles, and arcs • Become proficient with the advanced applications of the software including plotting/printing, drawing file storage and sharing, software personalization, and basic 3D modeling What skills will students learn? • Fundamentals of manual drafting and utilize industry standard CAD software to create mechanical and architectural drawings Students will also perform several “hands-on” activities including 3D Modeling and prototyping using a 3D printer. Academic work in class will include: studying fundamentals of drafting, drafting techniques, mechanical and architectural drafting. What Certifications are available? • Certified architectural apprentice drafter • Certified mechanical apprentice drafter • Certified by the American design drafting association What jobs/job titles are available to the students after graduation? • Architectural Apprentice Drafter • Mechanical Apprentice Drafter • Civil Drafter • Structural Detailer • Building Information Modeler • Draftsman • Quality Technician • Manufacturing Technician • Web Designer • Computer Graphics Technician • Construction Business Manager • Graphic Designer • Construction Supervisor • Prepress Technician • Field Engineer • Computer Aided Design Technician • Multimedia Technician • 3-D Animator What work skills will be needed for these jobs? • Strong thinker • Mathematical • Team player • Detail oriented • Strong communication and reading What skills should a student have to be successful in your program? Students need to have good math, reading and communication skills. Students will also need to be drug free. DRAFTING
