DESIGN NOTES

9. All chamber foundations below existing ground
level to have an extended base detail and mesh
as detailed on Diag No. C2014B/DR/0504.
10. All storage / attenuation pipe chambers including
control structure chambers and riser shafts to
have the following:-
10.1. bolted down access covers
10.2. vented access covers
10.3. concrete aprons 200 thick to access covers
(refer to Detail X on Diag No.
C2014B/DR/0504).
11. All control structure chambers that contain
penstocks are pollution control points. All
pollution control points shall have the following:-
11.1. penstock to suit size of outlet pipe, on
seating.
11.2. Access covers painted red for identification
11.3. Signage to indicate the chambers status,
11.4. Steps where required. Steps and handrails
shall be kwik-step modular permanent
access solution or similar approved.
12. All drainage items in aggressive ground shall be
specified to the requirement for the aggressive
ground condition to which the drainage item will
be subjected within the permanent works. Refer
to BRE special digest 1:2005 third edition
"concrete in aggressive ground".
13. Surface water drains are to have waterproof
flexible joints in accordance with clause 504 of
the specification.
14. Reinstatement of surface water drains, trenches
etc: located in existing highways shall be in
accordance with clause 706 and appendix 7/2.
15. See appendix 5/1 of the specification table 5/1
for permitted pipe work trench options.
16. Chambers to have 200mm thick concrete
surrounds type ST4 to chamber rings, where
stated on the manhole type and in the schedule.
17. All combined kerb drain unit out falls (ACOF)
shall sit on top of trapped road gullies unless
stated otherwise.
18. Saddle connections are required and are detailed
on the long section drawings.
19. Penstocks shall be cast iron rectangular metal
faced suitable for wall mounting with on - seating
head capacity of 6m. Surface access for
extended non-rising spindle with cap direct on
spindle in surface box for key turning. Fixtures
and fittings shall be corrosion resistant for
highway surface water conditions. Penstocks
shall conform to BS7775:1995. Stockists either:
Adams Hydraulics Ltd of York, Ham Baker
Hartley of Stoke on Trent or similar approved.
20. The outlet control chamber shall be designed in
conjunction with the Hydro brake design for each
Network case. Hydro brakes shall be designed
by Hydro international to suit each outlet
(Network) and mounted on the weir wall. The
chamber, weir wall and benching shall be
designed to the Hydro brake manufactures
recommendations and shall be approved by the
designer prior to any construction. Sump depth to
be determined from Hydro brake manufactures
recommendations.
