Drama Club’s Grand Slam
I had been looking forward to seeing our Drama Club’s performance of Bugsy Malone, ever since
Miss Collins made mention of it, at the start of 2014. With a rehearsal schedule that included two Sat-
urday afternoons, the level of commitment from cast and crew was exceptional, and well worth it too
as they put on two fantastic performances to packed houses.
Bugsy Malone, set in Chicago, is loosely based on events from the early 1920s to 1931 during Prohibi-
tion, specifically the exploits of real-life gangsters like Al Capone and Bugs Moran.
It was an ambitious project from the outset but skilfully handled by all involved. The cast of sixty did
a remarkable job and clearly enjoyed the experience. The choreographed routines were amazing and
the choral singing stunning. For the principal members of the cast, there were plenty of lines to learn
which were delivered with ease and some amazing accents. Stunning solo performances, to very diffi-
cult songs, included those delivered by: Fern Bentley as Blousey Brown; Claudia Pietrunti as Tallulah;
Eve Ganpatsingh as Fizzy and Lucia Schifano as Casey Joe. Thomas Clarke (as Bugsy Malone) and
Daniel Hall (as Fat Slam) confidently and expertly kept the story flowing, remaining in role through-
out - even when there was foam flying everywhere!
There was a long list of adults who were thanked for their contributions to the show, most notably:
Miss Clifton and Mrs Munson for Scenery; Mrs Thorpe for Lighting; Mrs Dickinson and Miss Nevard
for Choreography and Mrs Johnson for Music. Mrs Huntingford’s life has been all-consumed by
Bugsy in her role as Assistant Director, from casting (which was a very long day!) right through to
the curtain call. I know that Bugsy Malone will live on in the memories of all involved for many years
to come. When Miss Collins started teaching at Tadworth, two and half years ago, she asked if she
could put on a whole school musical and boy did she deliver! Her commitment and contribution to
the Arts at Tadworth Primary School has been incredible, with a term that has included: taking chil-
dren to sing at the O2; a performance by the KS1 choir at the Spring Fair and also the incredible -
‘Bugsy Malone’. Thank you to her and everyone involved. I can’t wait for the next one! JK

in Memory of Sarah Slann
The ‘Just Giving’ page in Sarah’s memory has received
donations amounting to over £4500. Gerald Slann has
asked us to pass on his thanks to all those who have
contributed, either directly to the page, or by coming to
Tadworth Primary’s Quiz Night, held in January. For
your information, the website is still open at
www.justgiving.com/Gerald-Slann/
and is 90% of the way towards its £5000 target!
Woodcote Green Nurseries in Wallington are again running
their ‘Greenfingered Scheme’ whereby they will issue a 25p
voucher for every £15 spent in store. Please remember to
collect your vouchers and hand them into the Front
Reception Desk. This is a very valuable scheme as we can
exchange the vouchers for gardening equipment and flowers
to plant around school. SM
CHESS CHAMPIONS &
MEGAFINAL QUALIFIERS This Spring Term, competition in the lunchtime Chess Club has focused on gaining qualification for the Delancey UK Schools Chess Challenge Megafinal, held over the May Bank Holiday. Many prizes were won through the course of the Spring Term, culminating in a special 100 Killer Move Chess Puz-zle book, specially made for this school’s stage of the tournament. Joe Dziedziela, George Johnson and Joseph Macleod (from Year 3) and Wangui Muchai and Asher Khan (from Year 4) were each awarded this special chess puzzles book prize. Two automatic qualifiers for the Surrey Megafinal stage, Joseph Macleod (Year 3) and Asher Khan (Year 4) receive our Spring Term Chess Champion accolade, Joseph as Bonus Points Competition winner and Asher as our overall tournament winner. Lunchtime Chess Club, which is open to all pupils from Years 2 to 6, resumes on Tuesday 21 April for 10 weeks. Enrolment letters are distributed via the school register. Anyone interested in joining can do so by asking their class teacher for a spare copy of the enrolment form, or parents can obtain one by emailing Mr Kettle @ [email protected]
Incident in Tadworth Street
20th March 2015
Surrey Police have been in contact with the
school seeking witnesses to an incident that
happened in Tadworth Street at around 3.10pm
on Friday 20 March 2015. If you believe you can
help please let the school office know.
Easter Arrives Early at Tadworth Primary! What a great success the Spring Fair was, despite the cold weather! The pony rides were hugely popular, the choir sang
beautifully, everyone enjoyed Isla’s Easter Egg Hunt and there was so much more to do.
Congratulations go to Henry (Owls), Adam (Robins), Willow (4SH) and Gya (3C) the winners of the two Colouring
Competitions – it was a tough choice with so many creative and original ideas!
We also had an Easter Bonnet Contest. Some of the entrants are pictured below.
Thank you so much to everyone who helped with set up, manning the stalls and tidy up afterwards. Also a big thank you
for all of the donated gifts we received. It was a great team effort and raised over £1,770 – well done everyone! PTA
Our thanks go to Andree Mottashed, Chrissie Pagham, Diane Reed and Heather Wilson for all their efforts in
organizing this year’s event. JK
What came first the Egg
or the Book!
Huge thanks to all the children who took part in the
Easter Egg Raffle this year. We managed to raise
over £200 for new books. We would like to take the
opportunity to thank the Leslie family for
sponsoring Book of the Month for March (our 50th
anniversary celebration) and also to Mrs Cullip who
kindly donated some large picture books for the
50th anniversary too. If you are interested in spon-
soring Book of the Month, please see Mr Kelly or
myself . You could choose your child’s birthday
month. We look to buy four books to cover the range
of year groups in school and we look for a donation
of around £25. Book of the Month is then highlight-
ed in assembly and a special 50th anniversary name-
plate will be placed in any of the books donated this
year. Sara Cox, Librarian
‘Babyfoot’ Competition
Year 5 enjoyed a two-day ‘Babyfoot’
competition this week … and they were
able to quench their thirst during the
heated tournament with the traditional
French drink ‘diabolo menthe’!
Congratulations to the winners of the
competition Dragon house.
Man of the match goes to Joseph Dillon for
the quickest goal scored! BRAVO!
