You can use either first person (I, me, my) or third person (Gemma, she, her).

From idea to opening...
This was it, the experience Gemma had trained so hard for to reach the summit of Mount Snowdon. Slowly, her hands tugged on the rope as she kicked her heavy boots into the ice and swung to her left. She gulped in the cold air as it became harder to breathe, but nothing could erase the satisfaction she felt. Chip, chip went her ice axe feverishly. Suddenly, Rob called up. "It's no good, I can't go any further!" Gemma gasped! She knew it would be unsafe for Rob to continue the ascent, the rocky terrain was becoming more hazardous, but they were so close. Could she climb on her own?

Read over your opening and look closely at your next 2 boxes (build up and problem). Try to develop both parts into a paragraph each packed with description and a little tension!

It was cold. It was now snowing. In her sleeping bag she lay, feeling hungry and tired. Gemma suspected she had broken her foot! With frozen fingers, she groped for her mobile phone and
rang the number of the only people who could now save her the mountain rescue team. Several hours passed. Reluctantly, Gemma played the scene of her falling over again in her head why had she insisted she could carry on climbing alone? In admiration,
Gemma gazed across the rocky terrain covered in ice and followed the jagged peaks as they pierced the sky. It looked like the storm
was intensifying Gemma shivered!

Wednesday 15th JulyStory Resolution and Ending
Take the time to read over your story so far, look at the vocabulary you now know and the techniques of building tension (short sentences, exclamation marks, powerful word choices and drama). How do you want your story to end?
Remember a rushed ending is a disappointing ending!

Ending
Your final paragraph the one to leave the reader either satisfied or wanting to read more!
What happened to your character?How did they feel about the whole ordeal?Would they ever climb a mountain again?
When you have finished, try reading the whole story aloud, maybe to a family member. Well done on finishing you have reached the summit!
