Energy Pyramid

Diagram -shows amount of energy (E) moving from 1 feeding level to next

Most energy is available at the producer level of the pyramid- BOTTOM

As- move up pyramid- each level has less energy available than the level below

Only 10% of energy is transferred up the levels

What is an energy pyramid?

PRIMARY CONSUMERS

On the Energy Pyramid First level of consumers Plant eaters- herbivores Primary means first Toward the bottom (right above the

producers)

SECONDARY CONSUMERS

On the energy pyramid Carnivores or omnivores Right above primary consumers Middle level Less energy than lower levels

TERTIARY CONSUMERS

On the Energy Pyramid third level consumer (sometimes top

level) Eats a variety of animals for food Often is a predator LEAST amount of energy available at this

level (quarternary consumers- 4th level- is the

absolute top level)
